Chapter 82: Bullet in Demon Mode
Sakazuki grew interested and nodded.
"You may go ahead and use it freely."
Bullet glanced at his comrades around him, then at Vice Admiral Sakazuki across from him.
His heart settled, and he hesitated no longer.
He nodded solemnly.
"Yes!"
After speaking, he closed his eyes and activated a certain power within him.
The soldiers sparring enthusiastically on deck suddenly felt a wave of coldness pass through them.
Bullet's eyes suddenly snapped open.
His appearance had changed dramatically.
His eyes were a mindless scarlet, and his skin had turned entirely blue.
A chilling aura exuded from his entire body, and the cracked corners of his mouth twisted into a cruel grin.
Suddenly, he turned his head to look at the nearest soldier to him.
Whoosh—
Like a blue demon, Bullet took a step forward.
Intending to kill the nearest soldier.
Boom!!!
A loud crash resounded as he was sent flying by the suddenly-appearing Sakazuki.
Bullet immediately got back up.
He became a streak of blue afterimage, charging toward Sakazuki.
Sakazuki looked at the irrational, roaring Bullet rushing toward him.
"Demon mode, huh... interesting."
Whoosh—Whoosh—Whoosh—...
Everyone on the ship stopped what they were doing.
They turned to look at the almost comedic scene.
The blue demon-like Bullet bounced around like a ball.
Charging repeatedly, and getting kicked away just as many times.
All they could see was a blue flash darting back and forth between Vice Admiral Sakazuki and the railing.
Time gradually shifted toward evening.
Everyone looked at Bullet with expressions of admiration.
He had been kicked around by Vice Admiral Sakazuki all day, and yet his face remained unchanged!
...
The demon aura was gradually corroding Bullet's body.
But Sakazuki paid it no mind, changing his position each time as he kicked Bullet away.
Controlled by instinct, Bullet attempted countless times to block.
But not once did he succeed.
As his anger accumulated to a certain threshold—
After one particular kick, his fury completely broke through his mental restraint.
Everyone sensed an overwhelming surge of rage exploding from Bullet as he climbed to his feet.
It pressed down unrestrainedly upon everyone around him.
"ROOOOOOAAAARRRR!!!!!!!!!"
A furious roar, accompanied by Conqueror's Haki, caused the soldiers on the ship to feel a wave of discomfort.
Sakazuki and Karol's eyes lit up.
"He awakened his Conqueror's Haki like that?"
Sakazuki had intended to hone Bullet's Observation Haki while he was driven purely by instinct.
Once his Observation Haki became strong enough, Bullet's spirit would be able to suppress the demon aura with ease—
And he would no longer lose his rationality.
But he didn't expect such a rewarding result.
After Bullet's roar, the Conqueror's Haki gradually receded.
His anger seemed to have been vented through that outburst.
Bullet's scarlet eyes looked toward Sakazuki, and his cruel smile slowly faded.
He raised his hands and looked at his own skin.
This was Bullet's first time witnessing this state with awareness.
In the past, he would completely lose consciousness—when he woke again, there wouldn't be a single living person around him.
"Vice Admiral Sakazuki, this..."
Bullet looked at Sakazuki with some confusion.
Sakazuki smiled.
"You awakened your Conqueror's Haki under pure instinct."
"And you completely suppressed the demon aura."
Bullet, who was familiar with the three types of Haki, had never heard of demon aura before.
He asked curiously:
"Demon aura?"
Sakazuki nodded.
"That's right. Demon aura."
"Where it comes from, or how to train it—we don't know."
"You'll have to explore that on your own."
"The only thing we know is that demon aura can merge with all three types of Haki."
"This state you're in now is a very good form."
"Most likely, your body instinctively determined this to be the optimal way to use it."
"So after losing your rationality, you transformed into this state."
Bullet nodded, half-understanding, as he stared at his hands.
Indeed, his physical power seemed to have increased by several levels.
He suddenly wondered if this state had frightened his comrades.
He snapped his head up to look—
Only to see that all his companions were staring at him with stars in their eyes.
Sakazuki's voice rang out from a distance:
"Clean yourselves up. Get ready for a banquet."
The surrounding soldiers cheered excitedly.
"OHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"
Then they swarmed around Bullet like bees.
="Bullet! That was insane!!!"
"Wow!! Those scarlet eyes!!"
"So cool!!!"
"Woooaaaah!!!"
On the second deck, Sakazuki and Karol looked down at the excited soldiers gathering around demon-aura Bullet.
Sakazuki stroked his chin, then suddenly said:
"How about forming an assault squad?"
Karol was momentarily stunned, then looked toward Bullet.
"An assault squad, huh?"
Sakazuki nodded.
"Exactly. Bullet is like a dagger."
"Once he grows stronger—"
"Whether it's infiltration, assassination, or open war, he can be the one to break the deadlock."
Karol also nodded in agreement.
"That's true. Bullet's talent is incredible."
"He might very well be the next Vice Admiral Garp."
Sakazuki thought of that fruit of amplification and smiled. A single Garp wouldn't be enough...
He turned to Karol beside him and said:
"Later, let's organize a selection process."
"Pick soldiers with speed and stamina."
"For now, select fifteen."
With that, he turned and walked back into the cabin.
Karol looked down at the soldiers below and nodded.
"Alright."
Suddenly remembering something, he turned back and asked:
"And the name?"
Sakazuki's figure had already disappeared, but his voice drifted back:
"Roaring Assault Squad..."
