One Piece: Buggy's Uncharted Legend

Chapter 94: Chapter 94: A Proactive Retreat!

Chapter 94: A Proactive Retreat!

After doing as Dr. Kureha had asked on Drum Peak and promising to return in two years at most, Chopper, at the strong insistence of cow 1 and the other Kung-Fu Dugongs, reluctantly agreed to leave Drum Island with the Red Nose Pirates.

After leaving Drum Island, the "Thor" charged directly into the Calm Belt and began to race through it.

In less than two days, the "Thor" had carried Buggy and the others back to the floating Amazon Archipelago.

Ever since Hancock's younger sister, Sandersonia, had obtained the Float-Float Fruit brought by Buggy, not long after Buggy left with Hancock, Amazon Lily had risen into the sky. Before Buggy returned to Kuja City with Hancock, Rusukaina and several surrounding islands had all been moved into the sky by Sandersonia's ability, completely connecting with Amazon Lily.

Of course, this connection was not a land connection, but a connection of the sea areas attached to the islands. In other words, as long as you could swim, traveling between the few islands was very convenient.

Returning here was a decision Buggy had made after deep consideration.

Just as Buggy had said to Dr. Kureha before, once the dispute over the Northeast Tunnel was over, the attention of the World Government and the Marines would likely shift to him. Especially after he had killed another king of a World Government member nation, the anger of the Five Elders would probably reach its peak.

Under such circumstances, if he were to continue to wander the great seas recklessly, what awaited him would definitely be a thunderous strike born of the World Government's resentment.

In the world of One Piece, a behemoth like the World Government might not seem like much before it gets serious with you. But once it does, Ohara from over a decade ago is an absolute example.

Even though the Red Nose Pirates were not a fixed target like Ohara, and were the fastest among moving targets, Buggy absolutely did not dare to be careless. After all, a world with Devil Fruits had too many impossibilities.

For a behemoth like the World Government, finding a Devil Fruit ability that could restrain the "Thor's" speed was not difficult at all.

And once the "Thor's" speed was restricted, or if it was directly destroyed by some ability, it would mean disaster for the remaining members of the Red Nose Pirates.

Buggy wasn't worried about Hancock and Mihawk. After all, their strength was enough to contend with an Admiral. As long as they weren't completely surrounded and cornered, escaping wouldn't be a problem. But the other members were not so lucky.

In the end, it was still that the other members' strength was lacking. Even Daz Bonez, at present, couldn't reach the level of contending with an Admiral with his Rumble-Rumble Fruit ability.

Of course, this alone was not enough to make Buggy decide to temporarily go into hiding. What prompted Buggy to make this decision was the war for abilities.

In the past, when people didn't understand the abilities of Devil Fruits very well, they didn't have much of an opinion on them. But after Buggy revealed the nature of Devil Fruit abilities to the world, some ambitious people who coveted them changed their old ways and began to hunt down individual ability users who were alone or in small groups.

And among these ambitious people was the World Government. Apart from Mihawk and the few Kung-Fu Dugongs, everyone in the Red Nose Pirates was an ability user. Moreover, among these abilities, Buggy's Chop-Chop Fruit, Hancock's Hobi Hobi no Mi, Daz Bonez's Rumble-Rumble Fruit, Betty's Gas-Gas Fruit, and Law's Op-Op Fruit were all listed on the newly appeared Devil Fruit rankings.

In other words, once they encountered a battle where their strength was not comparable, everyone except Mihawk and the less important Hawkins and Paula would be the main targets of a siege, especially Law.

For this same reason, Buggy had specifically chosen the Kung-Fu Dugongs as mascots, to prepare for various sudden situations.

After being brought up to the island by Sandersonia and hiding the "Thor" on land, Buggy and the others moved into a villa built on the edge of Rusukaina island.

After sending Chopper off with the few Kung-Fu Dugongs to learn how to read, Buggy gathered the others, all sitting in the living room of the villa.

"The reason I've made the decision to temporarily go into hiding and come here, in the final analysis, is only one: our strength is too weak," Buggy said with some helplessness.

"Captain, if the strength of our Red Nose Pirates is considered weak, then are there any other pirate crews with great strength?" Paula did not quite agree with Buggy's words.

"Paula, I haven't fully grasped what the captain means, but I believe he would never make a disadvantageous choice," Daz Bonez was a staunch supporter of Buggy.

"Too few people, too many ability users. Is that it?" Mihawk asked, staring at Buggy after Daz Bonez had finished speaking.

"Yes. To be honest, I'm even beginning to doubt whether the 'elite troop policy' was a wrong choice in the first place," Buggy said, looking at Mihawk with a sense of relief from being understood.

"Brother Buggy, your decision was not wrong. If it weren't for that bastard called Dr. Indigo, we wouldn't have reached the point where we have to lay low for a while," Hancock also said considerately.

"Although Dr. Indigo didn't accurately state our pirate crew's greatest reliance, the secret of Devil Fruits definitely couldn't be kept. And I had already guessed the series of consequences that would arise from this secret, which is why I rushed to open the Northeast Tunnel in the first place. If I hadn't created this tunnel with its huge benefits to divert the World Government's attention, the plan to annihilate the Red Nose Pirates would probably have already been on the desks of the Five Elders."

After hearing Buggy's words, everyone fell silent.

"Our greatest enemy is the World Government. Facing this behemoth, our greatest weakness is our lack of strength. This strength is divided into two parts: one is the gap in manpower, and the other is the gap in individual strength. As for the word 'flee,' don't even mention it to me. I can make a proactive retreat like this one, but I absolutely do not want to flee without a fight when face-to-face with the forces of the World Government." Buggy had his own special principles when it came to fighting.

He could choose to avoid a fight in advance, but once he encountered an enemy, no matter who it was, fleeing without a fight was not even an option. And when a fight started, he had to have the conviction to crush the opponent.

Such a principle placed a relatively high demand on the members of the pirate crew. If their strength was not enough, once a fight started, getting injured would be a light outcome. If they truly encountered an opponent of similar or greater strength, it was not impossible to lose a comrade.

This was also the main reason why Buggy had not yet entered the second half of the Grand Line, the New World.

And after hearing their captain's special combat principle, everyone's expression became much more serious.
