Chapter 87: Chapter 87: The Request!
Chapter 87: The Request!
After a full meal, Buggy spoke before Ace and Luffy had a chance to.
"Monkey D. Luffy, I came looking for you this time for one purpose, and that was to tell you about Shanks's arm. That matter has been explained, so there's nothing more for us to talk about. Portgas D. Ace, may I speak with you alone?"
Faced with Buggy's sincere inquiry, Ace nodded and then sent Luffy off into the forest to find dinner.
After seeing Luffy leave, Ace then said to Buggy, "Can you speak now?"
"I know you're Captain Roger's son," Buggy stated faintly as his first sentence.
However, Ace clearly hadn't expected Buggy's first sentence to shock him half to death. It was truly a powerful statement, shocking if not deadly.
"You don't have to say anything, nor do you need to think about it. I don't care if you admit it or not. I'm just telling you that I know about this, that's all." Seeing Ace's expression suddenly turn somewhat savage, Buggy once again spoke before he could.
And after hearing Buggy's words, Ace felt that if this continued, he would definitely suffer from internal injuries.
"What do you really want?" Ace's voice suddenly became a bit hoarse.
"I will guide your training for three weeks, but this absolutely does not include Luffy. As for what you do after I leave, that's your own business. But for these three weeks, you must accept my guidance." Buggy's expression was still calm, yet he presented content that Ace couldn't comprehend.
"Why must I accept? And on what grounds should I accept?" Ace roared, flying into a rage.
Actually, with Buggy having said this much, Ace already understood that Buggy intended to repay the kindness of the past through him.
But this was the most difficult thing for Ace to accept, because he had never acknowledged Roger as a father figure. As for accepting repayment from others on Roger's behalf, he would rather die.
"Do you think I'm helping you to repay Captain Roger's kindness?" Buggy asked, somewhat surprised.
"Isn't that it?" Ace stared fiercely at Buggy.
"Obviously not." Shaking his head, Buggy really didn't have such intentions.
Repaying a kindness was correct, but it wasn't repaying the Pirate King. For Buggy, how could the hazy memories of his youth compare to the youth he had just started out with?
"It's not?" This time, it was Ace's turn to be surprised.
"Of course not. You don't even acknowledge Captain Roger. If I were to waste my efforts on you, it would mean I had nothing better to do," Buggy said, shaking his head again.
"Then why do you want to guide me?" If Ace didn't get a clear answer, he would surely find it hard to accept.
"To repay a kindness!" another calm reply.
Alright, Buggy had once again given Ace an answer that made him want to spit blood.
"You bastard, are you messing with me? Didn't you just say that wasn't it? How can you go back on your word?" Even Ace, who had intended to be polite, was driven into a furious rage by such an answer.
"In your heart, do you think my guidance is to repay Captain Roger's kindness to me? I'm sorry, but just guidance is definitely not enough. I have no such intention at all. Without Captain Roger's nod, I certainly wouldn't have obtained my Devil Fruit ability. Although there were some coincidences involved, it absolutely cannot be denied. Compared to the Devil Fruit ability, guiding you is nothing at all. I am not an ungrateful person, so I will not do something so unfair," Buggy explained again.
"Then whose kindness are you planning to repay through me?" Ace roared at Buggy.
"The old ship's doctor, Crocus, and the former vice-captain of the Roger Pirates, Dark King Rayleigh," Buggy replied calmly once more.
Of the names Buggy gave, Ace had only heard of Rayleigh. It couldn't be helped, as the Dark King Rayleigh was truly famous.
Taking a few deep breaths, Ace calmed his emotions, and then asked in a deep voice, "Can you explain it all at once? I'm already confused by you. I really don't understand at all."
"I will guide you with all my heart for three weeks. In return, I only need you to visit Uncle Crocus when you reach Twin Capes one day and tell him your true identity. It's the same for Uncle Rayleigh, but he's not at Twin Capes. He's on the Sabaody Archipelago, the end point of the first half of the Grand Line. As for how to find them, I'll tell you before I leave," Buggy stated his request very honestly.
"What's the point of doing this?" Ace genuinely didn't understand what Buggy was trying to achieve.
"The two uncles are Captain Roger's best brothers. They are old now and have no children or grandchildren by their side. Although their lives are not lonely, if they knew of your existence, they would surely be very happy. Over the years, the two uncles have given me a lot of help. I've always wanted to find an opportunity to repay them properly. Even if it's just giving them a surprise, that would be good."
Buggy was sincerely grateful to Rayleigh and Crocus, but these two seniors truly didn't need much. Buggy really couldn't think of any way to repay them, until he cast his eyes towards the East Blue and discovered this opportunity.
After hearing Buggy's words, Ace wanted to refuse, really wanted to refuse, because he genuinely couldn't bring himself to say that he was that man's son.
But looking at Buggy's slightly reddened eyes and the hope within them, the refusal that had risen in Ace's stomach to his throat was stubbornly blocked by some unknown force.
"I hope you can agree to my request. Actually, I could have told the two uncles about your existence long ago. But I also know that once I told them, Uncle Crocus might not do anything, but Uncle Rayleigh might really come out of the Grand Line to the East Blue to see you. I don't want to bring you too much trouble, as I know you hold a grudge against the captain," Buggy looked at Ace and requested with great sincerity.
"I..." Ace's eyes were filled with confusion at this moment.
"It's just talking with two old men. It surely isn't a difficult matter for you. If you really can't bring yourself to say it, how about this? I can help you tell them..."
Before Buggy could finish, Ace shook his head and said, "Let me think about it, okay? Everything today has come too suddenly. I'm very confused right now and need to think it over properly."
"You can think about it slowly, even for a few years, as long as you decide before you enter the Grand Line. But you can't be late for tomorrow's special training. Although you are unwilling to admit it, you have ultimately inherited the captain's bloodline. You have the aptitude to become strong. But you haven't even grasped the direction to become stronger. Garp is actually a pretty good teacher, but unfortunately, he doesn't have the time to teach you. So for the next three weeks, you must be attentive. I will show you what the world of the strong is really like."
