Chapter 80: Chapter 80: The Relief Carving!
Chapter 80: The Relief Carving!
"Mm, understood." After Daz Bonez spoke, with a flash of lightning, he quickly disappeared into the dim tunnel.
Five hours later, at the foot of the Red Line in Destin, East Blue, Daz Bonez brought Rocks to the temporary base of the Red Nose Pirates. At this moment, Buggy and the others were enjoying a hearty meal made with love by Betty.
"Oh, you're here. It's been a while. How have you been lately, Rocks?" Buggy looked up after finishing the last piece of food on his plate and asked Rocks.
"Captain Buggy, thanks to you, I've had a glorious six months. Of course, that 'glorious' part requires excluding all those guys who wanted to get information about you from me."
Looking at Rocks's somewhat bitter face, Buggy knew that this guy actually hadn't had an easy time.
This was a matter of course. Half a year ago, the Red Nose Pirates had suddenly vanished from the face of the earth. As the last person to have contact with them, and the only one to have received intelligence from them, Rocks was destined to be harassed by numerous powers.
Although Buggy didn't know how this guy had gotten rid of the harassment, it didn't stop him from knowing that he had been in a lot of trouble.
"Have you eaten? Would you like to have some? Although the reputation of our ship's 'Suffocating Chef' sounds a bit terrifying, the dishes she makes are a rare delicacy."
Faced with Buggy's very polite invitation, Rocks shook his head.
"Although I'd love to eat, I'm more interested in immediately entering that hole behind you. My reporter's intuition tells me that the news you mentioned half a year ago is directly related to the large hole behind you."
"What hole? You fool, that's a tunnel that our captain spent several years excavating for the people of the entire world, a miraculous passage connecting the East Sea and the North Sea," Paula pouted from the side, very displeased.
"A tunnel connecting the East Sea and the North Sea?!" Although Rocks had faintly guessed that the cave behind Buggy was absolutely extraordinary, he had never expected this result.
Originally, Rocks had thought that the cave hid something like an Ancient Weapon. As for the cave being a tunnel, Rocks hadn't even considered it. What a joke! If the Red Line could be excavated, the World Government should have done it long ago.
Such a major event, beneficial for world communication and with far-reaching influence, shouldn't be accomplished by a pirate crew. After all, that was just too ironic.
Actually, the reason why the World Government didn't excavate the Red Line was not because it was difficult to excavate, as Rocks thought, but because of the special geographical location of the Holy Land Mary Geoise.
As long as there were no other connecting passages, the only way to safely travel from south to north was through the Holy Land Mary Geoise. Otherwise, you'd have to try your luck in the underwater passage beneath the Holy Land.
Excavating other channels to connect the north and south would not only be hugely expensive but would also weaken Mary Geoise's specialty as the center of the world. In addition, they would lose a large amount of transit fees through Mary Geoise. Neither the Celestial Dragons nor the Five Elders would likely dig through the Red Line for the sake of the common people they absolutely did not care about.
Because for them, this would absolutely be a self-destructive path.
After being stunned for a few seconds, the recovered Rocks rushed into the tunnel like a madman.
An hour later, a loud "Hahahahaha" laugh came from the tunnel.
"Captain Buggy, thank you so much for your generosity! Otherwise, how would I have had the opportunity to participate in an event that can change history? In the future, no matter what you need my help with, just give me the word, and I am willing to serve you at any time." As he spoke, Rocks handed a small, trembling, pure white piece of paper into Buggy's hand.
"Is this a Vivre Card?" It was Buggy's turn to be surprised, because the Vivre Card that Rocks took out was not something an ordinary East Blue reporter should possess.
"Yes, this is my Vivre Card. If you need me for anything, you can find me with this card. Also, Mr. Dragon asked me to send you his regards." With a sly grin, Rocks said something that made Buggy's expression change slightly.
"Oh, so you're a member of the Revolutionary Army!" Hearing this, Buggy finally understood why this guy had a Vivre Card.
"Yes, but not a combatant. I'm an intelligence-gathering agent," Rocks admitted generously.
"I didn't expect the Revolutionary Army to develop so quickly. It seems the Five Elders have still underestimated you. Alright, I won't say any more. Eat something first. Later, I'll have Bonez see you out. I'll leave the rest to you. I think you know how you should write it," Buggy calmed the surprise in his heart and then asked faintly.
"The Miracle of the World, the Legendary Pirate Red Nose. How's that for a headline?" Rocks had already thought of the headline.
"Brother Buggy, I like his headline! 'Legendary'! Once the paper is out, you'll have surpassed all the Four Emperors. After all, they are still just figures of legend, a tier below a legendary figure like you," Betty immediately clapped and said.
"Hahahaha, then let's use that headline. But the content must specifically note one thing: this passage is provided by the Red Nose Pirates for everyone to pass through, free of charge. No fees are to be collected, and no one is allowed to collect any fees. If anyone dares, our Red Nose Pirates will definitely teach them how to behave. Hmm, before we go, we have to leave behind a symbol for future generations to admire." At this point, Buggy leaped up and disappeared from his spot.
Soon, above the tunnel, in the darkness unseen by the crowd, small pieces of gravel quickly began to fall from the Red Line above.
Two hours later, Buggy came down from the rock wall and then went to the other end of the tunnel.
Seeing Buggy leave, Mihawk casually picked up a torch from the bonfire and threw it up into the dark space above.
As the flickering firelight rose, a not-so-clear relief carving appeared in everyone's eyes. The area illuminated by the torch revealed three faces: a laughing Buggy, a sweet-looking Hancock, and the eternally poker-faced Mihawk.
And as the torch continued to rise, a skull with a large round nose was also illuminated. Everyone in the Red Nose Pirates recognized this as the symbol on their own pirate flag.
"I didn't expect the captain to be so multi-talented. It's a pity the firelight is a bit weak and I can't see my face. No, I have to go too!" After speaking, Paula pulled another torch from the fire. But she didn't throw it; instead, she held it and used Moonwalk to rush up towards the relief carving.
As Paula's torchlight moved from left to right, Buggy's entire work was revealed.
On the far left was a cloaked, gloomy-looking, mysterious Hawkins. Next was a cheerful Betty with an apron and a chef's hat. Then came a resolute Daz Bonez gazing into the distance. After him were Hancock, Buggy, and Mihawk. Then it was Paula's turn, but the depiction of Paula on the carving was beyond everyone's expectations: she was looking at Mihawk with a love-struck expression.
At this point, no one was paying attention to the final figure in the picture, a resting Law with his eyes closed.
"Captain, you bastard!" Coming down from the relief carving, a blushing Paula roared at the tunnel entrance at the top of her lungs.
"Hahahahahaha!" A faint voice drifted intermittently from the other end of the tunnel.
