Chapter 17: Luck Like a Loaded Gun

Luffy tilted his head. "Oh, hey Makoto!"

Makoto waved. "Hey, Luff—WHOA!" He "slipped" on a banana peel (It does not exist)—his foot "miraculously" kicking a pistol out of a pirate's hand, the gun firing midair and nailing another pirate in the butt.

"GAH! MY ASS!"

Makoto rolled to his feet, scratching his head. "Man, I really gotta watch my step—OH JEEZ!"

He "tripped" again—this time his flailing hand "accidentally" grabbed a loose rope, yanking it and sending a crate of cabbages crashing onto three more pirates.

Buggy's eye twitched violently. "WHAT IS HAPPENING?!"

From a nearby rooftop, hidden in the shadows, Nami watched with her jaw on the floor.

What… the hell… is this?!

Makoto was now "panicking," running in circles as pirates lunged at him—only for him to "unintentionally" step on a loose board, sending it flipping up to smack another pirate square in the face.

"OH NO! I'M SO BAD AT THIS!" Makoto yelled, ducking under a sword swing—his movement so "clumsy" that the attacking pirate stabbed his own crewmate instead.

Nami's eye twitched. There's no way… There's NO WAY this is luck!

But then—

Makoto "stumbled" backward—right into Buggy.

"Oof! Sorry, clown man—OH WOW YOUR NOSE IS BIG!"

Before Buggy could react, Makoto's "frantic" hand "accidentally" grabbed his red clown nose—and yanked.

POP!

Buggy's real nose made a horrifying sound.

"GYAAAAAAAAAH!"

Makoto gasped. "Oops. My bad."

Silence.

Even Luffy was staring now.

Then—

"KILL HIM! KILL HIM NOW!" Buggy screamed, tears streaming down his face.

The remaining pirates charged—

—only for Makoto to "trip" one last time, his foot hooking on a loose cobblestone and sending him "falling" straight into a perfect spin-kick that knocked out the last six pirates in one go.

He landed flat on his back, blinking at the sky, thoughts running through his head.

"This clown's future interference potential... maybe I should end him now..."

"Ugh, this 'clumsy oaf' act is exhausting. Luffy makes it look so easy."

"Note to self: stick to being terrifying next time"

Makoto blinked at the sky. "...Huh. That worked out."

Nami, still watching from the roof, felt her soul leave her body.

…What… WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!

On the rooftop, Nami's grip on her staff slackened as her brain short-circuited. The math wasn't mathing. The physics weren't physicking.

Luffy, meanwhile, applauded like he was watching a circus act. "Shishishi! Do it again!"

Buggy's entire body vibrated with rage, his swollen nose now resembling a overripe tomato. "YOU... YOU...!"

Makoto stood up, brushing dust off his pants—then immediately "tripped" toward Luffy's cage. "OH NO NOT AGAIN—" His flailing hand "accidentally" karate-chopped the lock into pieces.

Luffy stretched his arms wide. "Thanks, Makoto! That was—"

"COMPLETE BULLSHIT!" Buggy shrieked, his voice cracking. "NOBODY'S THAT LUCKY!"

Makoto scratched his head with his most convincing dumb grin. "Guess I'm just blessed by the sea gods?"

Buggy's face turned purple with rage, veins bulging on his forehead as he started foaming at the mouth. "ENOUGH OF THIS—!"

Makoto casually stretched his neck. "Welp! Time to—"

"CAPTAIN BUGGY SPLITTER CHOP!"

Buggy launched himself like a screaming firework, his detached fist flying toward Makoto's face.

Makoto "stumbled" sideways to tie his shoe—"Whoops!"—as the deadly fist whizzed harmlessly overhead, punching a hole straight through Buggy's own wanted poster on the wall behind them.

"MY FACE!" Buggy wailed as his fist ricocheted off the wall.

And then—

POOF.

Makoto disappeared.

Buggy blinked. "Huh?"

A hand clamped down on his shoulder from behind.

"Hey, clown."

Buggy's blood ran cold.

Before he could react, Makoto forced him to stay in place, locking him down with an iron grip. He smirked at Luffy.

"GOMU GOMU NO—"

Luffy's arm reeled back, stretching impossibly far.

Buggy's eyes bulged. "WAIT WAIT WAIT—"

"—PISTOL!"

WHAM!

Luffy's fist slammed into Buggy's stomach with enough force to send spit flying from his mouth. His eyes rolled back, his tongue lolled out, and with a final, pitiful wheeze—

THUD.

Buggy collapsed face-first into the dirt, unconscious.

Silence.

Then—

"Shishishi! That was fun!" Luffy grinned, retracting his arm.

Makoto dusted his hands off. "Yeah, yeah. Good teamwork."

From her perch on the rooftop, Nami sat frozen, her brain struggling to process what she'd just witnessed.

A pervert who moved like a ghost and accidentally dismantled an entire pirate crew.

A rubber human whose fist had just folded a man like a lawn chair—and then stretched like rubber.

And now… she was supposed to navigate for them?!

Her eye twitched violently.

"…What the hell did I just watch?" she hissed under her breath.

Makoto, as if sensing her distress, glanced up at the roof and gave her a bright, mocking wave.

Nami's soul left her body.

She was so, so screwed.
