One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle

Chapter 100: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 101)

The voice echoed through the temple's cavernous interior, sending a shiver down the crew's spines. It wasn't loud, but it was unmistakably powerful, reverberating through the stone walls as if the very temple itself were alive. For a moment, the Straw Hat Pirates stood frozen, their eyes scanning the darkness.

Luffy, as usual, was the first to react. "Who's there? Show yourself!" he called out, his voice filled with the usual bravado. He stepped forward, the Heart in his hands pulsing in response to the mysterious voice.

The shadows within the temple seemed to shift, and from the darkness emerged a figure cloaked in a flowing robe of deep indigo. His face was obscured by a hood, but his presence radiated an ancient, otherworldly power. The crew immediately tensed, unsure whether this figure was a friend or foe.

"I see you have come," the figure said, his voice smooth and calm, yet laced with an ancient knowledge. "The Heart of the Forgotten Isle… It has been waiting for someone like you."

Luffy, never one to back down, took another step forward, grinning. "I'm Luffy! And this is my crew! We came to check out this island and see what it's got!"

The figure raised a hand, and a sudden gust of wind filled the room, though no doors or windows had opened. The stone walls of the temple seemed to hum with an unseen force. "I am the Guardian of this island, the keeper of its secrets," the figure replied. "You have come seeking the Heart, but the Heart does not belong to just anyone."

Robin took a step closer, her eyes narrowing as she analyzed the figure. "The Heart's power is not to be taken lightly," she said. "What do you mean, it doesn't belong to anyone?"

The Guardian's hooded figure tilted slightly, as though considering her words. "The Heart is not simply an artifact. It is the key to the true power of this island—a power that can change the very course of time itself."

The words sent a ripple of unease through the crew. Zoro, always the skeptic, crossed his arms. "Time itself? You're talking nonsense."

The Guardian slowly lowered his hood, revealing a face that was both familiar and strange. His features were sharp, but his eyes… his eyes were like bottomless pits, swirling with a light that seemed to draw in everything around him. It was as if the man had lived for centuries, his very existence tied to the island.

"You are right to be skeptical, swordsman," the Guardian said, his voice suddenly colder, more distant. "But the truth you seek is deeper than you understand. This island… and the Heart you now hold, are the remnants of an ancient civilization—a civilization that wielded the power to manipulate time."

The crew's unease grew as the Guardian stepped forward, the air around him shifting and rippling with a strange energy. His every movement seemed to affect the very space around him, as though he were in control of the world itself.

Luffy clenched his fist, still determined. "If it's all about time and power, we're not backing down! We've come this far, and we're not leaving until we know everything!"

The Guardian's lips curled into a faint smile, though his expression remained unreadable. "You seek knowledge, but knowledge comes with a price. The Heart is not a treasure to be taken lightly. It is a gift and a curse. The moment you hold it, you are bound to its will. It is not something you can easily control."

Sanji frowned. "A curse, huh? So, what's the catch, then? You're telling us we can't leave with it?"

The Guardian nodded slowly, as if confirming Sanji's suspicions. "You are free to leave, but you will not leave unchanged. The Heart of this island is not simply an object. It is a vessel—a conduit for the power that flows through this land, and through time itself. Once you accept it, you cannot return to what you once were."

Nami's brow furrowed in thought. "So, what does that mean? If we take the Heart, we're going to lose something?"

The Guardian's eyes glowed softly. "Perhaps not lose, but gain something else. The Heart offers the potential to reshape history, to unlock the secrets of time itself. But at a cost—one that each of you will have to decide for yourselves."

There was a long silence as the crew absorbed his words. The weight of the decision ahead hung heavily in the air. The Heart pulsed once again in Luffy's hands, its light growing brighter and more intense. It seemed to resonate with the Guardian's presence, as though waiting for a response.

Luffy grinned, his usual carefree attitude never faltering. "Well, we've been through some pretty crazy stuff, and we've come out stronger every time. If we're meant to do something with this Heart, then we'll figure it out! We won't back down!"

The Guardian's smile deepened, though there was a hint of something darker in his eyes. "Very well, Luffy. You have chosen your path. But know this: time is not a force to be reckoned with. And even the strongest will falter when they try to control it."

With those final words, the Guardian stepped back into the shadows, his figure disappearing as if swallowed by the very walls of the temple.

The Heart in Luffy's hands pulsed one last time, and suddenly, the stone doors of the temple slammed shut with a thunderous boom, trapping them inside.

"Hey!" Luffy shouted, looking around. "What's going on?!"

Before anyone could react, the ground beneath their feet trembled, and the walls of the temple began to glow with an ominous light. The air grew thick, and the space seemed to distort, as though time itself was warping around them.

The voice of the Guardian echoed one final time, now distant and haunting. "You have chosen your path. Now, face the consequences of your decision."

Suddenly, the crew was engulfed in a blinding light.

To be continued…
