Chapter 26: Chapter 26:Ambush
While Viltz and Margarita flirted oblivious to the various nobles and kings present in the grand ballroom, a person entered abruptly through the main entrance.
Yennefer wore a beautiful black dress that highlighted her cleavage and hugged her elegant figure.
King Virfuril stared at Yennefer with eyes full of burning passion and desire.
Istredd showed a complex look at the sight of the one who only a few hours ago was his mistress.
Yennefer ignored everyone and walked straight to where Fringilla and King Virfuril stood.
Yennefer held out her hand, offering it to the young king, who did not hesitate to give her a light kiss.
"Your Excellency, i am Yennefer of Vengerberg."
Tissaia, on the other side, rushed over to try to pull Yennefer away as she apologized, "My apologies your excellency, allow me to take this lost young lady."
King Virfuril raised his hand to stop Tissaia and spoke as he grabbed Yennefer's hand.
"What kind of king would refuse to dance with one of his subjects? You're from Vengerberg, aren't you? I'm looking for a sorceress like you."
"As you command, your excellency."
King Virfuril took Yennefer and together they began to dance.
Artorius approached the confused Fringilla and asked, "What's going on? Why do you have that look on your face?"
Tissaia on the side just sighed tiredly as Fringilla explained what happened to her uncle.
Watching them dance, Fringilla felt an unprecedented humiliation and could only flee from the ballroom while Artorius looked furiously at the indifferent Yennefer who was dancing calmly with the young king.
Istredd, who watched everything from a distance, also left.
Viltz looked at Margarita beside him and asked, "Would you like another round of dancing?"
"Of course!"
...
Once the event was over, Viltz returned to his old room, where he changed clothes, putting on a black hooded robe, strapped his sword and saber to his waist and slung his pack on his back.
Conjuring a spell to float the wooden box next to him, he opened a portal that teleported him to the outskirts of the city.
After a few minutes, he found a carriage passing by and hired it to take him on a journey.
"Sir, where do you want to go?"
"Take me to Oxenfurt."
"But sir, Oxenfurt is a kingdom away."
"Don't worry, here's an advance, when we get there i'll give you more."
The coachman quickly took the bag full of gold coins and no longer complained.
"Sir, the trip can take up to two weeks so i have to go buy provisions."
"Sure, but first let me take care of that bag of money for you."
Viltz shook a finger and the bag of gold coins flew out of the man's hands and landed in his palm.
"Take these coins, this will cover the supplies."
The man swallowed saliva as he understood Viltz's identity as a sorcerer and nodded like a hen pecking at rice.
He quickly slipped away and returned ten minutes later with a large basket full of food and drink.
The man put the food in a compartment on top of the carriage, jerked the horse's reins and they sped out of town.
Viltz's next few days passed without anything special happening, until the night of the seventh day.
As he slept sitting inside the carriage, Viltz suddenly heard a shrill noise along with a person's cry of pain.
"We're under attack." Viltz muttered to himself as he grabbed his two swords.
He didn't lose his cool and lay down on the floor of the carriage to avoid being hit by any arrows or swords that might pierce the carriage.
And sure enough, as soon as he lay down, an arrow pierced the wood of the carriage and embedded itself in the place where he was sitting before.
A few more arrows went through the carriage.
Viltz cleared his throat and let out a feigned cry of pain so that the other party would think he had been hit by the arrows.
"The archer is on my left, i have to get rid of him as soon as possible to avoid mishaps."
Waiting for an opportunity, Viltz unsheathed his saber and waited for the other party to open the door.
A bald man with a scruffy beard and dead fish-like eyes pushed open the door and was about to say something when he suddenly saw a black shadow emerge from the floor and attack him.
Before he could react, Viltz cut his throat and the man's head flew off.
Footsteps were heard and someone ran up to the man's position.
As it was night and they were in an area full of bushes and trees, Viltz's actions could not be seen clearly, so the other party did not notice how his companion was decapitated.
Viltz recited a spell under his breath and his footsteps became completely silent.
A man with a bow in his hand ran in a mechanical manner to the place of the carriage.
He stared at his decapitated companion without saying a word, something that seemed rather strange to Viltz but he decided to take advantage of the opportunity anyway, cutting off his head.
Viltz put away his saber and picked up the archer's bow and arrows, then pulled four vials from his tunic and buried them in different places before hiding behind a bush and waiting to see if there was anyone else with them.
"Ha, looks like i'm playing Counter Strike in real life, only here if i get killed i die for real." Letting out a sarcastic laugh, he concentrated on keeping an eye on the surroundings.
About three minutes later, Viltz heard footsteps coming from the forest ahead of him.
Hiding even further, Viltz watched the man approaching in the direction of the carriage.
The man wore a black robe and carried a human skull on his face which he wore as a mask.
The man looked at the scene before him and his pupils constricted, he quickly adopted a defensive stance and intoned a spell, causing a barrier of blue light to appear around his body.
The mage began to move slowly, waiting for his opponent's attack.
Viltz smiled as he saw where the man stood.
"The prey has entered the trap."
Taking aim with the bow, Viltz fired near the man's feet, where the barrier did not cover, causing the small vial filled with a black liquid to explode immediately, setting off a chain reaction that blew up the other three vials.
The man's protective barrier shattered with the first explosion, and the other three consumed his lower body.
The man fell to the ground, with no legs to support him.
The man tried to move, but before he could do anything, Viltz threw the bow he held in his hands and unsheathed his saber, slashing both of the man's arms.
The man screamed in pain and writhed on the ground like a worm.
Viltz stomped on the man's back with his foot and conjured four flames, sending them into the man's bleeding limbs so that he would not bleed to death.
The man screamed in agony from the pain caused by the burns on his limbs.
"Well, i suppose we should introduce ourselves, don't you think?" Viltz spoke in a cheerful tone as he continued to squeeze the man's back with his foot.
"I'm Alexander, a wandering mage, and you?"
Viltz gave a false name and asked in a playful tone.
"Fuck you crazy fucker!"
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, someone's not very cooperative, i guess i can kill you and ask your reanimated corpse then.
"Fuck you, you fucking disgusting human, i'd rather die again than be humiliated by someone like you!"
"Oh? But aren't you a human too? And what do you mean by again?" Viltz rubbed his chin in confusion. He checked the man's ears and saw that they were completely rounded, with no signs of elven or any other race's ancestry.
"Man, are you having some kind of identity crisis now that you're about to die or something?"
"What would a filthy human slave like you know of my greatness, and don't compare me to mere inferior beasts like yourselves."
"Oh, and then how should i address your great excellency?" asked Viltz in a sarcastic tone.
"I am the great prince of the night elves! The son of the last ruler of the elven empire! Soniatrax Aargus Lixenia! Now, get down on your knees and beg for mercy you damned rat!"
