Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Players 2
"Who are you? How did you make me appear here?"
Sato looked at the puppet controlled by Noah coolly while in his mind he thought of something else.
"Observe!"
Sato activated some sort of ability that sent out a mental wave that swept the puppet's entire body.
"What?"
He arched an eyebrow at the data displayed on the floating screen in front of him.
"From your expression and the feeling I just had a moment ago I can intuit what you just did.
Don't even bother, this is just a disposable puppet I'm using specifically to interact with you."
Noah spoke with a smile as he sat down on a rock.
Sato became extremely alert and was about to make a move but Noah spoke again.
"Don't even bother assassinating this puppet, if I wanted to, I could turn the entire academy into puppets."
Sato took a deep breath and the raging energy inside his body calmed down.
"You still haven't answered my question, who are you?"
Sato spoke again with a cold expression.
"I'm just a passerby who happened to be passing by.
And you? Who are you? Killing the protagonist of the current era of this world and extracting his nano machines from him.
Plus you possess a Kagune and a ninja scroll.
Tell me, how can you live without continuously consuming RC cells? From my understanding a Ghoul can only live by consuming meat containing RC cells."
Red Children cells, or RC cells for short, are cells unique to the world of Tokyo Ghoul.
Said unique cells, which flow within the human bodies of the Tokyo Ghoul world, are responsible for giving the Ghouls their powers such as the Kagune tentacles, which are essentially made up of RC cells.
Although many people think that Ghouls feed on humans because it is the only food their taste buds can tolerate, the truth was more complicated than that.
RC cells cannot be generated naturally within the body and an individual, whether Ghoul or human, is born with a fixed amount of such cells.
Once such cells deplete their energy and die, the body would need to replenish itself from another source of RC cells, whether Ghouls or humans.
In essence, Ghouls consume human flesh because it is the only supply of RC cells they need to survive.
In theory, Sato should have died of starvation because human flesh from other worlds does not contain the RC cells needed for sustenance.
Unless he had a human farm full of humans from the world of Tokyo Ghoul to breed them and obtain a constant supply of RC cells, Sato should have found another way to solve this problem.
Sato looked at Noah even more coldly and his murderous intent burst out.
"Are you sure you want to kill me? You might miss the opportunity to make a trade in which I'm sure you won't lose out."
"Yes? You've been acting all mysterious and powerful so far, why don't you show yourself? You cowardly piece of shit."
"Sigh, ignorant child.
If you really want to provoke someone, at least be a little more original with your provocations.
As for not showing myself, I don't want to risk handing over personal information to a potential enemy.
Although your current self could be crushed by a fart from me, I'm not one to underestimate others, who knows if you have any way to instantly escape this world if I decide to attack you.
Now, let's stop talking about me and talk about the deal I told you about."
"..."
"Fine! I'm listening."
"It's very simple, I want some information about a person, some general information, information about the worlds you've been to and a little bit about the cells inside your body."
"And what do I get in return?"
Noah smiled and pulled out a spherical disk before pressing a button.
The hologram of a black humanoid Mech appeared in front of Sato's view.
Noah tossed the disk to Sato and Sato began to read the Mech's data.
Everything was translated into Japanese so he could understand it.
"I agree!"
Sato got excited and agreed immediately.
Because what Noah handed him was the data of a suit of armor similar to Iron Man's armor rather than a Mech.
The black color with red colors made it look even cooler than it originally was.
Obviously, this armor didn't need willpower to function.
Noah smiled and pulled out another disk.
In this one, a hologram of a man could be seen.
Sato frowned in confusion at the sight of it and Noah instantly knew that this guy didn't know who this person was but he asked anyway to make sure.
"Do you know this person?"
"I don't know him."
"Sigh...forget it then."
Noah put the disk away again with regret and continued asking more questions.
"I can generate new RC cells thanks to the Gourmet cells from the Toriko universe.
The two complement each other perfectly.
When I consume any kind of food, I can generate Gourmet energy, if I make the RC cells in my body absorb this energy, they can replenish themselves with energy and multiply, replenishing the amount of cells my body needs to live."
"Interesting..."
Noah rubbed his chin with interest and continued to ask questions, mostly about the organization behind Sato.
Apparently, he belonged to an organization of transmigrators called Light Tower.
According to Sato, ten years ago dimensional portals began opening all over the world, bringing with them monsters of all kinds.
Apparently, the planet he lived on was an exact copy of Earth.
When humanity seemed on the brink of extinction, the Light Tower appeared, allowing humans to travel to fictional worlds and complete quests to become stronger.
"A billion..."
According to Sato, after the apocalypse only a billion humans survived on the entire planet and that number was dwindling every year as the Players, as the members of the Light Tower called themselves, died from time to time either at the hands of the natives of the worlds they travel to or at the hands of their rivals, a similar organization of transmigrators from a parallel Earth who happened to suffer a similar apocalypse at the same time and coincidentally an organization that opposed the Light Tower, called the Dark Palace, suddenly appeared and turned them into transmigrators as well.
What amused Noah the most was the approximate number of survivors from the transmigrator world of the Dark Palace world.
"Coincidentally" it also turned out to be about a billion or so.
Included in this number were children, who were not allowed to join the respective organizations until they reached the age of 16.
Sato turned out to be one of those youngsters who were recently allowed entry to the Light Tower, finally being able to travel to other worlds.
As players, they are assigned one mission per month and must complete it.
No matter how much time they spend inside the different worlds, only one day will have passed in the tower.
After each mission, they would have a month's rest before moving on to the next assigned mission.
From time to time, they would have specific missions, which would be individual missions.
Sato was currently doing a mission to acquire the Martial Artist class.
Each of the players can choose a basic class between warrior, mage, assassin and archer.
Once they reach the maximum level of their respective classes, players will have to choose their next class and complete a quest for promotion.
Unlike Light Tower players, Dark Palace players have a different system.
Each Dark Palace player will awaken a character template that would grant them the skills and powers of that character.
As each level increases, the player will become more and more integrated with their character template, slowly unlocking their powers, experiences and even some key memories.
Noah guessed that the man who killed him in his first reincarnation must be a member of the Dark Palace with the template of the character Leylin Farlier, from the novel Warlock Of The Magus World.
Kemoyin's pupil technique must have been one of the inherited memories obtained by that subject when integrating with his character template.
Sato's ascension mission turned out to be obtaining the sword of the founder of the demonic cult, Cheon Ma.
Noah secretly smiled at this news and after a couple of seconds, he reappeared with a black sword in his hands.
Obtaining the sword was a piece of cake for him.
He manipulated the sword so that it floated past near the area where his puppet was standing with Sato and swung it around in the air a couple of times before disappearing.
Sato looked at the sword in the sky in disbelief and was about to do something but watched it disappear before his eyes.
"If you want the sword, all you have to do is answer all my other questions and satiate my curiosity and then I will simply give you the sword along with something of value."
Sato nodded vigorously with enthusiasm.
Managing to infiltrate the place where the sword was hidden would be too much trouble for him and would take months of planning and preparation, if all he had to do was answer a few questions, he would be happy to do so.
Noah followed up with an intense and lengthy interrogation that lasted over an hour.
Noah, satisfied, handed Sato a space ring with armor inside.
Sato hastily pulled out the armor and inspected it with glee before storing it in his personal inventory.
"Boss, about the sword..."
"You still have to do me three small favors and I promise the sword will definitely be yours."
Noah handed him a syringe.
Sato immediately understood what the other party wanted and stuck the syringe into his arm, drawing some blood containing RC cells and Gourmet cells.
Noah put it away and asked him.
"Earlier I heard you say that you got an Eevee as a reward for the mission to assassinate Yeo Woon?"
"That's right. The boss wants it?"
Sato took out a white egg with green spots on its surface and handed it to Noah.
Noah smiled and put it away before pulling out a huge black rapier.
It had countless magma-like veins all over its surface.
"Sacred sword Lævatein.
Rarity: SSS.
Origin: DxD universe.
Description: Sword belonging to the fire giant Surtr, destined to bring destruction to Asgard.
Inbuilt with the laws of fire and destruction."
Sato's mouth was wide open.
It was the first time he had ever seen an SSS-ranked object in his life.
"I want you to post this sword on the digital market.
Take this list, I want you to trade this sword for the contents of this list, no negotiations.
Oh, and remember to go into stealth mode so you don't draw attention to yourself later."
When Sato explained about the digital marketplace where Players could sell or trade their items, Noah came up with an idea.
He had long had the idea involving genetic research.
His bloodline research also required certain materials that only existed on specific worlds.
To get them he needed to go to those worlds in person, something that would take a long time.
Now he had the opportunity to obtain such items easily and only needed to part with one of his many treasures.
This way, his research would be easier.
Sato grabbed the paper in his hands that looked like a shopping list and flipped through it quickly.
-One Xenomorph egg.
-One Ditto.(Pokemon)
-One blue spider lily.(Demon Slayer)
-One vial of compound V.(The Boys)
-One Logia fruit of any kind.(One piece)
-One Zoan of any kind.(One piece)
-A sample of Kryptonian DNA.(DC)
-3 DNA samples of different mutants.(Marvel)
Sato frowned after a moment's thought.
Most of these things could be classified as C-rank items at best, with the exception of the DNA samples, which were uncataloged items.
This sword was worth much more than these things put together.
"I know what you're thinking, you can put in a sum of points to offset the value of the sword but make sure you don't price it too high, it has to look like a bargain to potential customers.
Those extra points you can keep as a gift."
Sato's eyes lit up at those words and he quickly did as he was asked, storing the sword in his inventory and then uploading it to the digital marketplace, setting the requirements specified by Noah.
