Chapter 17: Misplaced Letter
In Duke Su's residence, Su Rui stared at a letter on the table, experiencing a Déjà vu. He couldn't believe the same lady who had sent the flowers last time had sent this letter to him again.
He was angry because those two were using him as a go-between in their tragic love story, and he did not want to be involved.
He was curious, but the fact that he could not communicate with his own fiance and had met her only twice before in the company of others because of rules, and yet these two could have direct communication without those restrictions annoyed him further.
Even though he was the emperor it felt like this was rules for thee but not for me type of situation and was not fair, Rui couldn't believe how cowardly his cousin was, it had been three months down the line and he couldn't tell that girl of his identity yet but when it came to him he threatened him with everything under the sun each time.
He opened the letter to read the previous time because he thought he was the recipient but now he really knew who the real recipient was and that it was for the emperor and he could not open it as curious as he was, because he knew if he opened this his cousin would have his head and that man had the perverse habit of threatening to have his head every time he did something wrong.
He touched his neck and felt goosebumps all over. That was enough sign for him not to touch the letter, so he delivered it himself. Even though he could give it to his steward to deliver the letter, he was very curious about the content of the letter so he decided to deliver it himself and tried to see if he could get information out of his cousin as he could not sleep well tonight if he was this curious.
Receiving a letter from the miss again meant that she and the emperor still had some type of contact, but the emperor had yet to tell her of his identity; he couldn't understand why as his cousin who was the emperor and every maiden in the capital would kill for the chances to by his side.
This only meant the emperor was afraid of informing Miss Mei of his identity yet and the only reason he could think of that was because of what happened to her family but he knew the emperor was right to punish her father and also that could not be a good reason enough as the emperor could get with whoever he wished to be with.
Instead of heading directly to the palace he passed by the residence of General Liu to take the young Master Chen of the residence and a good childhood friend of the emperor and his soon-to-be brother-in-law as he needed someone to be between him and the emperor in case, Xuan annoyed at him unexpectedly as he has to be annoying the emperor recently and he didn't know why but Liu Chen was the only person who could help him in case the emperor got angry.
Liu Chen was in the middle of training when he saw a flashily dressed young master rushing towards the training ground and the moment he set his eyes on him his head ached, Su Rui had this habit and angering the emperor and using him as a shield to deflect the emperor's anger and he was recently dragged to the palace more than often but he could not refuse his request as this shameless friend of him usually threatened him by telling him that once his sister gets married to Duke Su's manor he will forbid her from seeing him and also when they have children in the future children will not be allowed to meet him their uncle and knowing that was a baseless threat as he knew his sister personality he still humoured his supposed future brother-in-law but was now regretting why he agreed to engage his sister to this dramatic younger master.
But today, he decided not to go to the palace under any circumstances and whatever threat he came up with this time, as he was tired of being dragged into a fight he had nothing to do with, and with a stern face, he faced Su Rui, who just arrived panting.
No matter how many times he told him to exercise, this young master hated anything besides reading and staying cooped up in his study, and he pitied his sister, a martial arts expert from a military family, to marry a man weaker and paler than she.
Su Rui seeing Chen's defensive stance decided not to go with with threats as he knew his limits, so he leaned on his curious side and dangled the letter in front of him asking him to guess what it was but Chen wasn't interested in this young master's antics anymore and told him he didn't know in a flat voice.
Rui, knowing that he had no other option and checking around for anyone and seeing it was only the two of them, whispered telling Chen that it was a love letter from a young lady to the emperor and he wanted to deliver it to the palace.
Chen did not believe that there was a maiden in the empire who was brave enough to write the emperor a love letter and Rui was hurt that his brother-in-law could not believe him even when he was telling the truth.
Recounting the story from the beginning till now shocked Chen. Since it was so interesting, he did not believe his friend could fall in love. Even though he wasn't one to be interested in gossip, he was really curious about this and wanted to see if it was true so he agreed to go and dressed.
Rui knew he had succeeded, even though this muscular of a man acted like he didn't care for any gossip. He knew it was just a front, and he was as curious as him and led him to the palace.
