Chapter 200: A Family Reunion?
The moment those words left her lips, Adam narrowed his eyes in irritation at the mention of his younger brother. "And? What did Henry want to talk about? After leaving home and disappearing for so many years, why did he call all of a sudden? Don't tell me he's in trouble or something and wants you to bail him out."
Jane shook her head and replied with a wry smile. "No, it wasn't anything like that. In fact, he wants us all to go together to his house because he's getting married. He wants a family reunion before his wedding."
Silence descended after that for a brief moment while everyone present took in Jane's words.
"Wait... wait, hold on, what did you just say? Henry... is getting married? The Henry I know? The guy who I'm pretty sure has never stayed in one place for more than a week and is obsessed with being a player? And he's marrying someone? Does he even know how to tie the knot, let alone say vows to a woman?"
Adam closed his eyes and rubbed his temples in disbelief. He'd always thought it would be impossible for Henry to get married since his younger brother hated being tied down, even to the idea of dating itself. So how on Earth could Henry change so much that he wanted to get hitched to a woman?
"Well, yes, you heard correctly. According to Henry, one of his past flings ended up pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. He never expected anything to come out of it, but when the daughter approached him to meet for the first time and called him 'Daddy'... He says he just knew what to do at that moment and decided to take responsibility for her and marry the mother. Apparently, the mother had been in love with him for years. So when he found out about this, he decided to make things right by proposing to the mother."
"That idiot..." Adam couldn't help but mutter under his breath, unable to hide the disbelief and frustration he felt right now.
It was no secret that Henry had a thing for fucking every woman he set his eyes on. Whenever he saw something he wanted, he'd take it by any means necessary. However, no matter what, to think that his own brother could end up knocking someone up and siring a child without knowing about it for so long... That just rubbed Adam the wrong way.
He'd always known that Henry was reckless and had little care for others, but this was just too much. It wasn't fair at all to the woman and especially to his own daughter that Henry never knew about.
Jane watched Adam's reaction while sighing to herself. She knew how much Adam cared about family and had always been a responsible one throughout his entire life.
For him to hear the story of his brother's reckless, irresponsible actions and the consequences, it would be only natural for him to become upset by those details. She also couldn't deny feeling disappointed by Henry's actions as well.
"I know this isn't ideal. I get that. I mean, that boy never cared for anything but having a good time. And he did so at the expense of others around him without ever considering the consequences for those who get dragged along. That's something that we can all agree is a problem with his way of living. But we have to give him credit for finally coming around and owning up to his mistakes by taking responsibility for his actions. Besides, we should meet his fiancée and the child and give them our support too."
Adam sighed again, letting out all of his frustrations with each breath. Then he looked at Jane and nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I guess you're right. At the very least, we should go support both the fiancée and the little girl. They must have been through so much without Henry there to support them."
As the eldest sibling in the family, Adam felt obligated to go along with this. If nothing else, he wanted to set an example and show Henry how to act properly in the future. If he didn't teach his younger brother what's right and wrong, who knows how many more mistakes Henry would commit, leaving his family in shame?
"Yes. Well then... Mia, Oliver... You two heard the whole story, right? We're all going together on a family vacation to attend my idiot son's wedding." Jane stated as she glanced at her daughter-in-law and grandson. "Also, call Amara too. She should come with us as well. After all, it is a family gathering."
Adam immediately shook his head as soon as he heard his mother's plan. "I'm sorry, Mother, but Amara can't join us for this trip. She has her exams coming up soon. That means she can't afford to take any unnecessary distractions right now."
"That's okay. We'll have another get-together after she finishes her exams. For now, though, we'll have to make do with just the four of us going, without her." Jane said, to which Adam nodded.
Meanwhile, Mia and Oliver glanced at each other. It was an unexpected twist of events, but they both understood what needed to be done. After all, family was important, and they wanted to be there to support everyone.
"Okay, Grandma... When are we heading out to see them?" Oliver asked after some silence.
"Tomorrow. Pack your stuff tonight because we'll be driving out there first thing in the morning. The wedding ceremony itself will happen after five days, so you have plenty of time to rest and get acquainted with everyone else there."
And just like that, plans were made to visit Henry's wedding, which was going to take place at the vacation house, right on the beautiful, breathtaking island.
