Novaris: Adventure in the Shattered Fang Continent

Chapter 52 - Life as a Goat Part 1

Novaris. Quattur. 905. AGC.

Nodel. Waning Crescent 🌘. Day 25.

Walking into the city and returning to Tesilim's new residence, Lili and Alyx got plenty of weird looks for their floating yellow and purple goat. The goat was floating because neither of them wanted to carry it back, so Alyx just cast a floating spell on the sleeping Tesilim.

Eventually, they made it to the inn, and after explaining Tesilim's condition to Grover, they left the hysterically laughing satyr to his own devices.

They placed Tesilim's goat self on his bed and sat down to await his awakening, which came late in the afternoon.

Tesilim woke up, and everything felt different. He could see just fine, but the view was odd. He could see almost all around him except for his back, though turning his head fixed that particular issue. Looking around his nice inn room, he saw Lili and Alyx staring at him, and he went to speak, but oddly enough, only a long drawn out “baaaaaa” came out, causing Lili to giggle and Alyx to go insane with laughter. Lili eventually joining him.

Annoyed, Tesilim thought they had cast a spell on him and went to curse them out.

“Baaaaaaa” Was all that came out. Still annoyed, Tesilim tried again, but only another “Baaaa” came out causing his two companions to sprawl on the floor laughing.

Deciding to stand up, Tesilim found it odd that he was so short. He twisted his head, seeing his own body as the realization hit him. He was a fucking goat.

“Baaaaaaaaaaa!” Tesilim yelled into the sky, his goat head looking up at the ceiling.

Next up, he, of course, went and looked at his status to see if anything had changed.

He was going to be a fucking goat for an entire goddamn month.

“Baaaaaaaaaaa!” or more like “fuuuuuuucccckkk!”

Thankfully, after a couple more minutes of laughing and while Tesilim stared at them menacingly, Alyx finally did something, and he casted a spell.

“Creatures wild, both great and small;

Hear my call, one and all;

By this spell, let us converse;

In your tongue, I now immerse.”

“Fuck you guys!” Was the first thing Tesilim said to his two smiling companions.

“What? You gotta admit this is freaking hilarious.” Lili spoke up first and was followed by Alyx.

“Yeah, man, are you some sort of druid now?” the gnome said, smirking.

“It's not funny. I am stuck like this for 30 days!” A sentence that quickly caused the other to stop smirking, at least for like a whole minute, before they just started joking with him. Well, Lili did. Alyx went into research mode.

“Well, I sure as hell ain't kissing you now! Mr. Goat, breath.”

“Could you understand us before the spell?”

“Yes, I could,” Tesilim answered while staring at Lili angrily.

“Also, I am not picking up your pebble poops, though I guess you can eat my trash now. Hey! You're finally good for something!”

“Do you think your chaos event will trigger while still in goat form?”

“Yes, my Chaos Mana has already gone up.”

“I see very interesting. I wonder if transformations can stack.” Alyx said out loud, more to himself than anyone else.

“I am also not giving you a bath.”

“I am going to lick you and give you goat germs,” Tesilim told Lili.

“You better not. I don’t need your goat breath near me.”

“I am coming!” Tesilim said before jumping towards Lili, who swiftly dogged as she giggled. “Stop!” she yelled as he chased.

“Can you use magic?”

“Good idea!” Tesilim yelled and went to activate his body enhancement at full power, catching Lili by surprise. He got a high-pitched “Grossss!” followed by a kick that sent him flying across the room due to his lick.

He did answer Alyx as he yelled, “Yessss! I can use magic!” before smacking into the wall.

In turn, Alyx just took some notes and did some heavy thinking as Tesilim got up and began chasing Lili again.

This nonsense lasted for a few minutes, where Tesilim failed to lick Lili again but was, in turn, sent flying multiple times. Eventually, his companions went home, and Tesilim was left to goat by himself. Luckily, as his token was part of him now, he didn’t need to imbue a new one but just had to jump up high enough to activate the circle.

The next day, Alyx used the spell again, and after getting some weird looks at the inn's banquet hall, they headed to the adventurers guild. Apparently, they were going to cancel their remaining quest and stop taking quests until the transformation ended, as it wouldn’t help Tesilim any while fighting in goat form if he didn’t actually learn to move with his human body. Essentially, it was time to take a vacation and chill.

Walking into the guild, they, of course, got many stares and fingers pointed at them. Thankfully, they were once again seen by Penny, who also gave them an odd look due to the purple and yellow goat following Lili and Alyx. The look increased in intensity when the goat jumped on top of a chair.

“Penny, can you please activate the cubicle's privacy barrier?” Alyx asked respectfully.

Not questioning the wizard, Penny tapped something under the counter, and they felt and heard the pop as they were isolated.

“Alright, I will bite. What's going on?” Penny questioned a small smile appearing on her face.

“Alright, so our goat friend here,” Alyx said, pointing at the goat before continuing,” is our elf friend you saw a day or two ago. You remember him?”

“I remember him. However, do you expect me to believe this goat is him? Is this some sort of prank?”

“No, and if you allow me to cast a speak-with-animal spell on you, you will see what I am talking about.”

Rolling her eyes at Alyx, Penny agreed, and the gnome quickly used the spell.

“Hey, Penny, sorry to bother you, but I am actually Tesilim!”

Penny, in turn, just looked at the goat with wide eyes as if she didn’t believe it.

“Are you serious? I feel this is still a prank. Why are you actually here?”

“Well, we still have a quest out, and considering I am a goat, we are hoping we get an exception for canceling it,” Tesilim explained.

Sighing as if saying, “Why do I always get stuck with this crap” Penny answered.

“Again, I don't believe you, but the policy is that you are not guilty until proven otherwise. However, as the guild representative, I must request that you answer questions in a truth chamber to ensure you aren’t pulling any nonsense. How did this even happen anyway?”

This time, Alyx spoke up. “Well, he has some innate magic that causes strange things to happen. It is more like a curse than anything, honestly.”

Hearing that seemed to appease Penny at least a little, and she added to the original statement.

“Very well, we will ask about that too, and if it is true, I will note it on your guild records for future incidents. Now, please follow me.” She finished as the privacy barrier popped, and they could hear and be heard again.

Following Penny, they were taken to a simple square room that looked a lot like those Tesilim saw in cop shows back on Earth. He was motioned inside, but Lili and Alyx were told to wait outside. Inspecting the room, Tesilim saw the carvings on the walls and floor, and he guessed it was for this truth spell thing to work.

Tesilim waited for a few minutes, but eventually, someone came in. It was the same green-haired elf Tesilim had sparred with, and the dude did a double take as he saw the goat sitting on the chair. Then he looked at Penny for confirmation that the whole situation was real and actually happening. Penny just nodded at him.

The elf closed the door, leaving Penny behind, and pressed some runes on the wall, causing the runic circles carved on the walls to glow a faint blue light. Afterward, he sat down in front of Tesilim, but on the other side of the table, and almost like he didn’t want to, he chanted a spell similar to the one that Alyx had used. With the spell done, the green elf hid a smirk and began to speak while trying to keep his voice as serious as he could, considering the situation.

“Alright, goat, so this whole conversation is being recorded. Now, this is going to work rather simply. I am going to ask you a few questions. They will be simple yes and no questions. If you are caught lying or attempting to use magic to hide your intentions, then this whole thing is done, and you will get additional penalties for causing all these issues. Am I understood?”

“Yes sir,” Tesilim answered with a serious “baaaa” that caused the elf to hold back a smile with all his willpower.

“Very well.”

“First, are you Tesilim Tesly?”

“Ba!”

“Very well. Did you take on request AG2390?”

“Baaaa?”

“Yes, that's the one about the orb in the cave.”

“Ba.”

“Okay, great, so far so good. Did your magic turn you into a purple and yellow goat?”

“Ba.”

“Alright, and with that, we are done. You are actually telling the truth.” The elf answered almost like he didn’t believe it himself, and as he opened the door, Tesilim heard him mutter. “This is going to be a hell of a story.”

From there, they returned to the lobby, and Penny processed the new information. She informed them that the request had been canceled and removed from their party, and they would be allowed to get another request the following day. However, she said that they wouldn’t be able to get the same request again, which was fair enough. Finally, they also turned in the bird request and Tesilim got another chaos point. With that done, the party headed out of the guild and went to the Rusty Boar, where Tesilim planned to challenge people to a drinking contest.
