Chapter 35 - Crystal Notice System
“Hey, Lili, can you, uh, can you see this box?” Tesilim asked as his hand passed through the translucent box before him.
Looking over at Tesilim, Lili just gave him a look like he was a bit crazy.
“No, what are you talking about? There is nothing there. I think you might have hit your head a bit too hard. We should probably take you to a cleric when we reach the city. Just to be safe.”
“Yeah, that sounds like a good idea,” Tesilim replied, still distracted by the box in front of him.
The box disappeared a few seconds later and was replaced with a new one.
🔷 Crystal Notice 🔷
Hello, Tesilim. You may speak, think, or will a command to operate the Crystal Notice System. To begin, say or think the word “Menu”; additionally, you may simply will for the menu to open.
🔷
Well, that's neat, Tesilim thought before he opened the menu, causing the original screen to disappear and be replaced by a slightly larger one.
🔷 Crystal Notice 🔷
🔷 Menu 🔷
- Status
- Goals
- Spells
🔷
Even with three options, Tesilim had only one real one to choose from, and he quickly opened his status.

🔷
After reading his status screen, Tesilim had so many questions.
What the heck was a Chaos Elf? Also, how was he a Chaos Elf? He was human, wasn’t he?
“Hey Lili, what's a Chaos Elf? And I am human, right?”
“No, you’re an elf,” Lili answered while looking at him like that had been the dumbest question he had asked so far.
“Also, I don’t know what a Chaos Elf is. We elves have so many different subspecies that keeping track is hard.”
Tesilim didn’t believe Lili when she said he wasn’t human, but he would know for sure as soon as he had a mirror. For now, though, he was healthy and alive, and there were more important questions.
Tesilim also forgot to do the simple act of just checking his ears but to be fair, he had just survived falling down a tree, so maybe his brain was still a bit rattled.
Moving on from that, Tesilim wondered what a Chaos Meter was but decided not to ask Lili as it was likely that it was something Chaos Elf related.
He did ask what D Rank, Arcane, and Order Mana were, and Lili just replied they were a type of mana she would teach him about when he began learning magic. She also said that D Rank was the rank above an average person. She had also questioned how he knew that, and he had just answered with “Magic?” which seemed to have been sufficient.
With that explanation, Tesilim was more than happy to wait until he began learning magic. Though it was a bit weird, Lili was being rather friendly to a person she had just met, and Tesilim hoped it wouldn’t come back to bite him in the ass. He also realized that he was also rather trusting of someone he had just met, though, in his defense, she had healed him and was really pretty. So, he moved on with an inner shrug.
Magic sense was probably related to magic and was something he would more than likely learn later on.
Thinking about the boon or chaos points didn’t bring up anything, and afflictions clearly stated that he had none, so he brought up his supposed eight abilities and was met with a large screen of text.

🔷 Abilities 🔷
Dark Vision: You have the ability to see in the dark but only in shades of grey. Distance is limited by Rank—current distance - 30 feet.
Okay, cool, I can see in the dark though 30 feet kind sucks. Tesilim thought as he began a careful read of his new abilities with a required commentary in his brain.
Chaos Mana: You can produce a trickle of Chaos Mana attuned to your being. Your Chaos Meter lets you know how much Chaos Mana is available. Once your Chaos Meter reaches 100, the Chaos Mana will trigger a Chaos Event if it is not spent within 24 Hours.
So I am on a timer before some crazy shit happens. Not cool new powers, not cool at all.
Immune to Chaos: You are Immune to Chaos Mana out in the Astral. Note—This ability does not grant you immunity against your Chaos Events.
Assuming the Astral is just space, then this is completely useless right now. Also, why would I go to space? That place sucks—nothing but a bunch of shitty mind-reading aliens out there.
Chaos Boost: You can infuse your Mana with your own attuned Chaos Mana while casting spells. The strength of the spell will be boosted based on how much Chaos Mana was infused. You may infuse 25, 50, 75, or 100 Chaos Mana. Warning: Chaos Mana infusion will trigger a Chaos Event regardless of the amount of Chaos Mana infused.
This one is pretty awesome, well, at least the first part.
Chaos Event: A Chaos Event triggers the forces of chaos, causing something to happen. The target of the Chaos Event will often be the target of the spell you are boosting. However, that is not guaranteed, and it is likely a Chaos Event will affect you, those around you, or someone across the world. It is impossible to know how, where, when, why, or to whom the Chaos Event might impact.
Ugh, I'm probably gonna die to a random fireball soon, aren’t I?
Chaos Control: Locked - Reach S Rank or Higher to Unlock.
Sounds cool, but it’ll probably be a while before I get to S Rank, if I make it at all.
Blessing of the World Crystal: You have the ability to understand, speak, and write most languages. You are reborn as a Chaos Elf. Additionally, due to Earth’s low magical status, you gain the Crystal Notice ability.
That explains why I can understand Lili. Also, it seemed he really was a Chaos Elf well, unless a Chaos Elf was a disguised human. It was also easy to assume the World Crystal was something at the center of a planet, though he didn’t know why it would bless him.
Crystal Notice: To help guide you in a more magical world, your Blessing of the World Crystal has created the Crystal Notice System. The system will assist you in processing magical information.
Note—The Crystal Notice System has some knowledge that is not available to you directly. However, for the most part, it will help you understand the knowledge you gain better and more directly. Finally, the Crystal Notice System is designed to improve your magical quality of life, and new features may unlock or be added based on your needs and wants.
Also good was that this whole system thing wasn’t some sort of plot by an aberration. Unless it was, and it was just a very elaborate ruse to mind fuck him.
🔷
After looking at his abilities, Tesilim checked his goals, as the system put it. However, a different notice appeared before the goals screen popped up, giving him rather lovely information.
🔷 Crystal Notice 🔷
Goals are things you can achieve, and upon completion, you will receive 1 Chaos Point. All goals will be automatically added based on the actions around you. Most goals will have an estimated completion time, and if not completed, they will be removed from your goals list. Additionally, all goals reward 1 Chaos Point no matter the difficulty of accomplishing said goal.
Finally, 100 Chaos Points can be spent to negate one trigger of your Chaos Event ability. Points gained do not stack above the 100 allowed total.
To read this information again, say, think, or will for it to appear.
🔷
Tesilim wasn’t sure how to feel about the whole goal thing. It was nice that he had a way to stop his so-called Chaos Events, but it all depended on how often he got these goals and how hard they were to complete. So, without further delay, he brought up his goals again.
🔷 Crystal Notice 🔷
🔷 Goals 🔷
- Reach Wildwood City alive. Allotted Time - 1 Week.
- Reach S Rank.
- Help kill an Eldritch God.
🔷
Tesilim read his goals, re-reading the last one multiple times before he tripped on a rock and angrily spouted about his impossible task.
“What the fuck!? How am I supposed to kill an Eldritch God?!”
Lili, of course, noticed the outburst and couldn’t help but comment, a bit annoyed at Tesilim’s latest outburst.
“What are you going on about now?”
“Nothing, just there is this thing I have, and it says I have to kill an Eldritch God,” Tesilim responded, still annoyed at the goal but being serious nonetheless.
“Are you serious?”
“Yeah.”
“Have fun dying, I suppose,” Lili said in a deadpan voice, her face blank. While inwardly, she wondered if she should pick up Tesilim and hurry to the city. They were almost there, but clearly, the guy was having some mental problems.
“Well, okay, it says to help kill an Eldritch God, not that I have to do it myself.”
“Ah, yes, that makes all the difference,” replied Lili sarcastically.
“Hey, actually, good question for you. Do you guys have an Eldritch God trying to eat your world here as well?”
“Yeah, it has been relaxing on our moon for a few centuries.”
Lili’s calm reply made Tesilim think she was joking.
“Wait, are you joking with me? If not, shouldn’t you be trying to kill it or something?” Tesilim replied with a nervous laugh.
“No, I am not joking. Also, I am just a Low C Ranker, so there isn’t much I can do. That problem is for the gods to figure out.”
“Hmmm, I see,” Tesilim said as he pondered that fact until he registered that last part and blurted out an excited response.
“Wait, you guys have gods!?!? Like, I will smite you down type gods that live in the sky and stuff!?”
Still calm as a feather, Lili answered like it was not a big deal.
“Yeah, we have gods, 27 of them last time I counted. And they won’t necessarily smite you directly, more like they will send a demi-god to put you down permanently, though I suppose if you are weak enough, there isn’t much of a difference.”
“That is awesome! I can imagine just walking down the road, and bam, some idiot gets got.”
At that response, Lili just gave him a look that Tesilim had come to learn was her you are an idiot look.
Moving on from that discussion, Tesilim looked around them for a few moments, just enjoying life. He could feel the full warmth of the sun on his skin. He looked up at the beautiful, clear blue sky he hadn’t seen in years and breathed in the fresh scent of nature.
Tesilim also looked at Lili, and his heart sped up just a bit. She was gorgeous, and her hourglass figure slightly melted his battered brain. However, even with all that beauty, she had a lithe and well-muscled form that was there but could be lost in her beauty. He also didn’t think she had noticed, but he did. She had a dagger strapped to the side of her thigh.
He had noticed it way back at the tree when she got up but had decided not to say anything since if she wanted him dead, he would be dead.
After admiring Lili’s beauty, Tesilim decided to inspect the last part of his menu.
🔷 Crystal Notice 🔷
🔷 Spells 🔷
- Spells Concentration: Locked - Reach D Rank to Unlock.
- Known Spells: 0.
🔷
There wasn’t much to see, but it at least told him about how some magic worked with the mention of concentration. Sadly, it seemed most of his new magical powers were locked under rank, making him more impatient to get to the city.
“Hey, Lili, how far before we make it to the city?” Tesilim asked as he put a pep on his step.
“Shouldn’t be long, maybe another 30 minutes or so at our current pace.”
“Awesome,” Tesilim answered as his thoughts revolved around his possibly awesome new planet and the loss of his old one.
