Chapter 3
Episode 3
I glanced back to see how much the gap with the pig had widened.
“…Ugh!
It wasn’t just one pig… it was several… a herd of pigs.
“Is there some kind of kinship ritual?
I looked behind me and saw about a dozen pig heads chasing after me. I don’t know how they can move so fast with their fat bodies, but they were amazing.
I don’t know how they can move so fast with their fat bodies, but they’re amazing.
I was like, “Holy shit… this is the first day of the game.
After about five more minutes of running, I hit rock bottom. My health is at rock bottom, and my HP is fine, but I have 20 pigs chasing me from behind and a cliff in front of me. When I stood at the edge of the cliff, it was pitch black.
I thought, “What’s death like here? Are those pigs going to cut into my flesh? Are they going to make sashimi?
I expected death. But I subconsciously shook my head to avoid it.
“No, I can’t be eaten by pigs, I’d rather fall off a cliff and die!
When the pigs came within five meters of him, he was desperate. I looked down the cliff and couldn’t see the bottom.
“What? What about that?
There was a rock sticking out of the cliff about three meters. I leaned down a little further, ready to die, and saw that there was a cave inside the rock. If I could get down to that rock, I could hide myself. It felt a little more noble than falling to my death and still being eaten.
“I’d rather do it myself than be eaten by pigs!!!”
I rolled my eyes and ran. A fresh breeze ruffled my hair.
“Am I passed out?
I tried to open my eyes, but they wouldn’t budge. Only a black world. The only translucent window in front of me.
“Stunned. Three minutes to go.”
If your HP drops too much at once, there’s a certain chance you’ll faint. A faint just like in real life. You can’t even move while you’re unconscious. On the first day, things were going well… and then I realized that I had bad luck.
I thought, “I just have to wait three minutes.
But after three minutes, it was still dark. I couldn’t understand my current state. My vision was blurry, even though the stun duration was clearly over. I couldn’t move freely.
Of course, I couldn’t move my hands while I was stunned, but now I could move them, but even if I could, I couldn’t stretch my arms out. I was blocked on all sides.
“Is this the afterlife?
I was still new to the game, so this was a possible idea. I was obviously stunned, but I didn’t feel any better during or after the stun. The fact that my HP was normal and my experience was intact probably meant that I hadn’t just fallen off the cliff and rolled safely into the cave halfway down.
“Did I roll deep into the cave?
I couldn’t think of anything else.
“How did I get here?
It suddenly occurred to me. If I had rolled here through the cliff, there would be an entrance, but I couldn’t see it because it was pitch black. I couldn’t see anything. I couldn’t do anything but lie there.
Then a fresh breeze blew through my hair.
I immediately sat up. The air was blocked on all sides, but not on top. If I hadn’t thought to get up, I probably wouldn’t have realized it.
I climbed up the pitted wall. I tried my hand at it, and it was easier than I thought.
But it didn’t get any better. Unseen passages and spaces that felt vast. We were definitely in the right cave, judging by the echoing voices.
“…That’s right, the lantern!
A lantern is given to every new user. I hadn’t thought of that.
I quickly rummaged through my bag, found the lantern, and lit it. I could see everything a little better.
“…A temple?
A wonderful sight dazzled my eyes: a large room. Even the ceiling was not illuminated by the fire, so it was obviously a fairly high cave. Several portraits hung on the walls. They were all handsome, but their faces seemed a little pale. I explored the temple through the darkness.
I had to walk carefully and look around the temple; there were many places that were not visible due to the weak lanterns. The black marble gave a very noble impression. This was no ordinary cave.
After walking a little further, I came to a huge door. It was very elaborately carved and looked like the gates of hell.
I tried to enter, but I couldn’t open it with my strength. It was so heavy and huge. The fact that I couldn’t see the top of the door was enough to make it impossible.
“What am I going to do?”
I couldn’t think of a good idea. I looked at my R.T. (Real Time) and realized it had been a little over six hours. I didn’t feel the need to do anymore, so I logged out. I had fulfilled the requirement of six hours a day.
Plus, I’d gained five levels today, so simple math told me that I had 20 days to level up, which would make this capsule completely mine.
And then I would be able to fall back into the world of Sudden Death.
* * *
I stepped out of the capsule.
‘I like this capsule after all, even in virtual reality game rooms, I get a headache after playing for six hours, but this is different.
I looked at my capsule and smiled happily. Even though I had lost half of my monthly income, I didn’t care.
‘It gives me so much pleasure…….’
I took the nutritional pill and lay down on my bed to sleep.
-Do you want to connect?
“Yes.”
-Measuring your iris and brainwaves. Would you like to start with the level 5 human examination character ‘Karen’?
“Yes.”
For a moment, my vision is filled with darkness.
“There’s always a new world when you open your eyes.
* * *
But somehow, the darkness didn’t go away.
“Is this a bug?
I’ve heard of occasional glitches, but I never thought I’d experience one.
After an hour of G.T. (Game Time), the bug still hadn’t been fixed.
‘…That’s right! I was trapped in a temple in a cave.’
Chastising myself for my foolishness, I pulled out a lantern from my bag and lit it. As I lit it, a door reminiscent of the ‘gates of hell’ stood in front of me, and I couldn’t see anything behind me due to the darkness.
Again, I tried to open the gate (for convenience, I’ll call it that) with all my might, but it refused to budge.
“…I’m trapped!
I was supposed to stay in the game for at least six hours in order to buy capsules for cheap. But there was really nothing to do. I lay there, barely able to see with the light of my lantern, trying to figure out how to get out of there.
“It’s dangerous to go back there,” I thought, “and there’s the pit I fell into, and what’s on the other side?
I sat up as it occurred to me that I must have gotten here by coming forward out of the pit, so on the other side must be the passage I had fallen into and rolled down the cliff.
I had six hours of real-time access, which was a full day in-game time, and I didn’t want to be stuck here for the rest of my life.
I grabbed my lantern and walked to the other side of the gate, holding it close to the ground so I could see if there were any debris or pits in the ground.
After about five minutes of walking, I saw a long pit. It was so deep that I couldn’t see the bottom with the light of the lantern.
“Does this mean I’ve been stuck down there?
It was a pit I never wanted to go back into. The pit wasn’t very wide, so I was able to jump over it without difficulty. From here on out, it was uncharted territory.
There was nothing unusual about it. It was just a slight uphill climb. There was no light yet. Surely a lighted opening, like a hole in a cliff, would be the way out.
“You mean I rolled down this long passage? I’m surprised I’m not dead.
Perhaps if I hadn’t filled up on blood before falling off the cliff, I would have ended up in a grave instead of being trapped in this cave. After five minutes of walking, I couldn’t see the end of the passage.
‘Damn it, this is the second day, and I should be leveling up!
I need to reach level 100 in a month, and then I will be free of the conditional capsule and truly be my own. I’m still dreaming about it.
I can’t wait to get out of this tedious game and get back to the thrilling world of Sudden Death, but I’m dying of frustration that it’s not possible.
After half an hour of walking, I was surprised to see a passage that was still inclined and never ended.
I thought to myself, “I’ve been on this path…….
