A conversation - part one
“Honey, your tablet is vibrating!” A female voice yelled.
“What, who could be calling me at this hour?” a male voice responded. He walked into the room and picked up the tablet from the table, clicked a glowing light on it and put it to his ear. “Hello?”
“Hello, Alexis, its Gaelin, how are you on this fine night?” a deep yet soft voice came through the tablet.
“Gaelin? Its almost midnight here, it must be nearly 2 am where you are. Is there an emergency?” Alexis asked worried.
“No emergency. Just wanted to pass along some news I just heard to you.”
“News?”
“A tavern with hundreds of dragon hunters in it, reportedly burnt down tonight, killing everyone inside.”
“That’s terrible. Do they suspect arson?”
“They do.” Gaelin responded.
“Did they catch the perpetrators?”
“Supposedly.”
“I assume you think they got the wrong guy.” Alexis responded suspiciously.
“The two dragons they killed were normal dragons, nothing special about them. The building though, burnt down in seconds. It was hit by hells fire.”
Alexis sighed. “You do this every time Gaelin.”
“The tavern was located in Kharis.” Gaelin replied pointedly.
Alexis paused for a moment. “Kharis? The town by where Aerith lives?”
“The one and the same.”
Alexis paused again, then took a stern tone. “He’s dead Gaelin. It’s been 10 years. Every time some coincidence happens you call me up and act like he’s coming back, and he never does.”
“Maybe, but fate has a funny way of working, doesn’t it.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“My kingdom and your kingdom are both doing nothing about Merellien, acting like they wouldn’t be so bold as to start a war. I think you know just as well as I do that’s exactly what they’re going to do.”
“And you think that murderous, rapist, coward, who ran away when his people needed him, is returning now to save those same people? I find that hard to believe.”
“Maybe not on purpose, but like I said, fate works in funny ways Alexis.”
Alexis sighed once more. “To be honest with you Gaelin, I don’t have any idea why you hope that piece of shit is still alive anyway. But fortunately for the rest of us, he’s not. Please don’t call me with this nonsense anymore, I’ve got better things to do then hoping for ghosts to save the world.”
“Whatever you say, Alexis. It was nice talking with you.” The voice cut out and the light on the tablet went dark.
