Chapter 11
School Life is Freakin’ Spectacular #6
“Kids are getting cocky nowadays.”
The little brats are nothing to be afraid of. What are they going to do? Stab me with a knife (sword)? A hero, as the term implies, is literally a hero. After a bit of internet searching, I found that superhumans who commit heinous crimes get treated as villains.
What’s important for a hero.
That would be none other than character. There’s no way the kids who start with verbal abuse and violence would be able to continue attending the academy.
“Ugh, damn.”
I’ve been thinking about a lot of things, and it seems that making a fuss on the day of the entrance ceremony was helpful. Now that I’ve got a connection with the Director, if I get hit, I can run straight to her.
The Director, with that personality, I’m sure she wouldn’t tolerate something like a violent incident. I’m confident about that. And she doesn’t seem like the type to decline a request from a student she has beaten down herself. The bruise on my back is still there, I saw.
Anyways.
“Let’s see.”
I went straight to the training ground and touched the power icon in the center of the screen.
Then.
*Click*
The door locks, and the lights above come on. Ah, earlier I didn’t turn on the training ground, so it seems that’s why the “in use” sign didn’t show. That’s why those guys were able to come in.

Waiting for the loading to complete, the screen finally appeared.

「Quest Complete」
「Enter the Academy Training Ground」
「Reward: 100 Coin」
「Reward: Shop Access」
―――――――――――――――――
“Yessssssss!!!”
Finally, the shop is open! Joy rushes in and my heart starts pounding. How do I use it? First, since I rented the whole training ground, I should check things out for a bit.
“How do I open it? Shop. Shop window.”
As I said that.
-Chime
A familiar hologram-like window appears in front of me.
―――――
[Shop] [Purchase]
―――――
The design is simplicity itself.
Without hesitation, I pressed the purchase section.
―――――
[?] [?] [?] [?]
―――――
A myriad of hooks greeted me.
“No, why is it all question marks?”
These bastards… don’t tell me it’s all gacha? I was about to sit down crying and beat it to death, but it turns out I can’t even click on it.
It’s not gacha.
Anyway, I swiftly flipped through the hologram window, checking the list. Most of the windows were filled with [?]. Does it mean it unlocks as you progress with something in the future? In other words, it’s in an unlock state.
That’s probably correct. There’s no other reason for this. But damn it, what’s the point of giving a shop you can’t use right away…
―――――
[Stats]
―――――
“Oh.”
The stats section appeared.
Does that mean I can use coins to improve my pathetic stats? That’s a huge win. I pressed it without hesitation, and a list of stats showed up.
――――――――――――
[Strength (1) – 3,000 Coin] [Agility(1) – 3,000 Coin] [Stamina (1) – 3,000 Coin] [Endurance(1) – 3,000 Coin] [Mana (1) – 3,000 Coin] [Owned Coins (2,500)]
――――――――――――
“Son of a bitch.”
These greedy colluding bastards have unified the prices?
All of them are three thousand, so I need to gather five hundred more to do anything. Looks like I have no choice but to collect coins from now on. But considering I’ve collected this much without being at school for long, seems like they’re giving it away?
“Ryu Cheon-hwi.”
The two thousand coins I earned were from fighting that bastard. The rest were small change. That means Ryu Cheon-hwi is a coin machine, right? I can speculate, but there’s nothing sure.
After all, I plan to report that Ryu Cheon-hwi bastard… But if he’s a coin machine, maybe it’s better to entangle myself with him rather than report him.
Whatever it is, if I collect coins well, I can gain strength. In that case, I should diligently gather them. Of course, that doesn’t mean I can skip training or anything. After all, I don’t even know what the average stats for these hero students are. The only way to catch up is to do everything that I can.
Training and exercise are important.
*Puff*
Without hesitation, I turned off the shop window and took another look at the machine.
[Would you like to start training?]
“Yes.”
Pressing it, a window pops up asking me to enter my ID and password… Shit, do I have to make one? But then I remembered I have a student ID. I pulled it out, logged in, and my name appeared just like that.
[Kim Geun-chul] [Rank: F] [Number of Training Ground Uses: 0] [Total Score: 0]
With just a student ID, I could do everything. Quite convenient. I checked out my information window for a bit more and then pressed the start training button.
[Please select the type of training]
“Oh, there are different kinds?”
Quite detailed.
Pressed it, and the list appeared.
[Close Combat Training]
There are other options, but since I only have a sword and a skill to enchant the sword, I chose that one.
[Projectile Dodge Training] [Designated Monster Summon Battle] [Monster Wave] [Monster Challenge]
Each one seems quite varied, and I’m already getting excited just looking at it. I read the descriptions one by one. Dodging projectiles? The description shows up.
-Be it monsters or villains, there are those who favor ranged attacks. Dodging or blocking their attacks is one of the most important abilities of a hero.
-Dodge projectiles shot by monsters. HP is consumed upon being hit, and the training ends if your HP reaches 0, then receive a score.
“Thanks for the clear explanation.”
Seems like a sort of dodgeball training exercise. From the example video, it looks intense. The rest was about summoning hologram monsters for one-on-one battles and defense game-like waves of continuously appearing monsters.
The last one was somewhat like conquering a tower of sorts, taking down monsters one by one in a challenge mode.
“Select challenge mode.”
[Please select the level] [ Lv.1 ] [ Lv.2 ] [ Lv.3 ] [ …. ]
“Yeah. Start from level 1, of course.”
-Beep
Touching the screen, the moment I made the selection.
-Whooosh!
“Ugh!”
Suddenly, the training ground was enveloped in a blue light!
“My goodness…”
It feels like I’ve entered the digital world! A space blanketed with a mysterious blue light! While I was marveling, the floor opened, and some kind of pillar rose.
“What’s this?”
-Buzz
The pillar opened, and out came something like a weapon. Ah, that’s it. The enemies appear as holograms. So, they’ve provided a training weapon for that purpose.
-Click
I grabbed the training sword right away.
Its design was somewhat futuristic.
But the weight is similar to my sword.
[Monster challenge mode will begin]
“Bring it on, let’s see the monsters.”
As I said it.
-Buzzing
In front, something starts forming slowly, like a 3D printer creating an object. The color is that sky-blue, typical hologram-futuristic blue… This technology is pretty awesome?
While I was relishing the anticipation, a monster was fully formed shortly after.
“What the hell? Is that an ant? One with legs?”
The monster had an unusual shape. It had a cylindrical body with bunches of tentacles on top. Beneath, there were a pair of leg-like structures reminiscent of a zealot in reverse.
It was about 1 meter tall.
Surprisingly, it was also rather detailed and realistic.
[F Rank Monster Antazora] [Be careful of its tentacles]
“Wow.”
This is kind of nerve-wracking?
But at the same time, I feel excited. Right now, I’m the one holding a sword, needing to slay this monster. It feels so vivid, like a real-life VR action game. Naturally, my enthusiasm overflows.
After all, there’s no real harm. Then let’s get started properly!
[Operation Begin]
“Alright! Let’s do this!”
Immediately, I step forward with my left foot and aim my sword!
Do you think I, Argh shit, can lose to that sort of critter? I’m someone who’s also practiced taekwondo! If I wield a sword, I’m practically unbeatable.
-Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh!
Monster Antazora starts rushing towards me using its reverse-type legs at a remarkable speed. It’s quite fast.
“Squeeeek!”
“It talks too?”
Not only does it talk, but the damn thing also begins to prepare to attack me with tentacles hanging from its body. Nevertheless, I match its approach speed.
“Whoops!”
-Swooosh!
I dodge to the side, avoiding its charge.
“Squeeeek!”
-Click, click, click.
As I dodge to the side, the creature continues to run a bit more before slowing down and turning towards me again. It may be quick, but I can still dodge it upon sight. Similarly, it doesn’t react with great agility.
Easy enough, this is.
Is it like this because it’s an F Rank monster? Meaning these are the weakest mobs. So someone like me can fight them.
“Come at me again, I’m all set.”
-Dash!
Without missing a beat, it charges me again. The speed is within dodgable range. As it gets closer, I once again throw myself to the side to evade the charge.
“Die!”
-Whack!
I push off the ground, rushing forward and slashing my sword at it in a sweeping strike!
-Bam!
With a clean strike sound, sky-blue particles explode out.
-Groan…
My sword hilt vibrates intensely, like it’s sensing the impact. The sensation is killing it.
As I’m admiring it.
-Flick!
“Whoa!”
The bastard sends a tentacle whizzing at my face! I roll on the ground and narrowly avoid it. Wow, that was close to dangerous. If this were real, I’d have been in real trouble, right?
“You little bastard!”
-Splash!
Immediately, I get up and rush towards it, swinging my sword again.
-Slash!
My blade easily slices through its body. That was the end. The hologram monster vanishes like a mirage.
[Victory]
“Yeeeeesssssss!!!”
Joy!!!
Overwhelming joy!!!
I can’t help but let out a shout of elation!!!
“I won! I did it!!!”
I roughly get the idea!
Even someone like me can kill an F Rank monster! Learning more about myself and the monsters, an overwhelming sense of achievement washes over me!
“Now bring on the next one!”
Using this training ground seems like it will be so much fun! No, really, it could be insanely enjoyable! Isn’t this basically a super immersive VR action game? Above all, constantly using my body like this in the training ground to hone my combat skills will naturally improve my body and stats!
“From now on, it’s hardcore training like the ‘Legenday Moonlight Sculptor’!”
Just as you’d raise stats by beating up scarecrows, I plan to raise my stats by trashing these training ground monsters!
