Chapter 497: A Quick Trip Home - Part 2
Tired of waiting for Raven, her son, and the rest of their party to visit her again, Rose rode on her yak to Brenna's home–drawing with her a carriage filled with a bundle of joy for the herbalist's daughter. It had been a long ride thanks to the runes around Brenna's house, but finally as Rose made it into the circle of runes, her eyes instantly caught the sight of the Coppelicons carrying water from a well with Aerin riding on the saddled back of one of them.
"Rosemary?" Noticing the massive white-furred yak closing in on her with the carriage on its back being drawn, Aerin stopped on the spot wide-eyed and the beasts she was directing stopped right with her.
"Hello~ Sorry for scaring you if I did," scratching under the yak's ears, Rose smiled at Aerin before slipping off the beast's back. Patting him on the side, she made the animal step away from the massive, flightless pelicans.
Watching as the yak moved to the side resulting in the carriage stopping right next to Rose, Aerin grew curious as to what the two were doing at their house.
"H-hello to you too, ma'am…" Slowly looking back at Rose, Aerin forced an awkward smile on her face.
Slipping off of the Coppelican, she patted on its side for the beast to head off with the bucket of water by itself. Once the creature was gone, Aerin turned to Rose yet again with an unsure smile.
"Are you here for anything particular or just a surprise visit? Ahaha…" Trying to draw the reasoning for Rose's visit with the question, Aerin awaited her response with her hands tied together on her back.
"Oh, I just–" Before Rose could finish what she was about to say a low grunting sound came from within her carriage. Smiling, she turned to the curtains covering the insides and moved them away. "Such an impatient baby, no wonder momma kicked you out so soon~"
Inside the wagon was a young and healthy yak with deep dark fur and big googly eyes. Seeing Rose, the calf moved closer to the wagon's edge and began rubbing its face against its owner's hands. Scratching it back in response, Rose let out a chuckle before turning her head to Aerin.
Replacing that fake smile from before on her face was beaming joy at seeing the cute baby yak. Her eyes glued to the young beast, she had her hands clenched by her chest for its cuteness alone was raising Aerin's heartbeat.
"Are you going to see him in the city?" She asked.
"Him? Oh no no no," shaking her head, Rose pulled her hand away from the young calf and moved it onto Aerin's shoulders. "I came here to unload this problem on you, hoping you can take care of this rascal."
"You what?" Looking at Rose with a jerk of her head, Aerin's eyes sparkled at the opportunity of having another beast for her to tame. "You're kidding, right?! A calf like that will sell for a handsome amount of gold, you know!"
Rolling her eyes upwards and bobbing her head side to side while humming a musing song, Rose thought about what Aerin had suggested, but then bringing her gaze down on her, she told her what she'd planned ahead of time to tell her before coming to her house.
"My big boy here," nudging her head towards the older yak, Rose brought Aerin's attention to him. "Mino said I should take him to the Cowpens, and when I did, this lady's man here got them all pregnant. I got to keep a few of them, this youngster is the last one I have but two male yaks staying together is bound to cause aggression."
"So…" Shifting her attention back to Rose, Aerin couldn't stop smiling. "You're giving this one to me?" Find more to read on empire
"I think I said that the first time," Rose jested, and the two shared a brief laugh.
"Aerin! Are you done with the water already or not?!" The screaming voice of Brenna from inside the house pulled the two out of the moment.
"I'm coming in a bit!" But before she could move along and get in, Aerin helped the baby yak down and with it walking alongside them, the two made their way inside the house.
Clinging to Rose's foot, the yak kept close to her owner and wouldn't even budge when Aerin tried to get it closer to her. But with Rose's plan to stay a few days at her house, she knew that there would be enough time for her to build a relationship with the animal.
However, the one person who wasn't too thrilled to see the black-furred yak was Aerin's mother as she was drained by the Coppelican's presence alone. Even so, distracting herself with Rose's company, she sat down in her workshop grinding herbs and talking to the guest over some herbal tea.
"Why did you have to bring her another pet?" Brenna asked, taking a quick glance up at Rose before bringing her gaze down to the mortar.
The sound of herbs being grounded in the mortar bounced off the walls of the room for a while as taking her time to soak in the tea's odour, Rose took a light slip and only then answered Brenna with a smile.
"I believe kids growing alongside animals helps them grow into joyous adults," thinking of herself as that kid who grew up around animals, Rose truly felt that had it not been for these creatures she would've grown to hate life by living alone on that farm most for most of her life.
"But she's not a kid anymore," grabbing some more herb to add to the mortal, Brenna lifted her head completely and looked straight at Rose. "Tell me is this because she said she wants to be a beast tamer? Is that why you brought that yak here? Just be honest, a mother to mother…"
Taking yet another sip, Rose let out a soothing sigh.
"Well if you know then why ask? I didn't see you indulging her so I decided to do so," turning her head to a wall full of decoratives, Rose shifted the direction of the conversation by pointing at something odd. "But enough about that, what is that thing on the shelf?"
Humming in confusion as she turned her head, Brenna's cheeks flushed red as she noticed that the replica of Raven's cock was laying on the shelf on full display. Awkwardly glancing sideways at Rose, her eyes met with hers and instantly an awkward chuckle left her lips.
"That's–"
"Looks like his…" Rose didn't have to specify who Brenna already knew well enough.
"Y-yeah…" She said, lowering her head with a hint of embarrassment.
"I was going to give the yak to you for free, but…" Letting a moment of silence hang between the two as Brenna looked up again, Rose added with a faint smile and a blush on her cheeks. "I think I'll take one of those for myself in exchange if possible."
Looking at each other with not a word said for a while, the mother both shook their heads as smiles took over their faces.
"I can't wait for him to come back, ahaha~" Said Rose.
"Trueee~ I can't wait either," Brenna added, laughing alongside her.
