chapter 44
“Mmgh…”
Completely unaware of the storm brewing inside me, Shin Heejae began to stir. He bundled the blanket up in his arms, burying his face into it, and then—still nuzzled into the pillow—turned his head in my direction. After a long yawn, his eyes slowly opened.
“Yaaawn… Hm?”
“……”
He blinked a few times, then furrowed his brows sharply. His expression shifted dramatically, like someone jolting out of a dream. The moment our eyes met, he suddenly shot up.
“Kim Seyoung?”
“……”
He looked at me like he couldn’t understand why I was there.
The second I saw that dumbfounded face, anger surged in my chest. I stood up, marched over, and with just two steps, I grabbed Shin Heejae by the collar.
“Hey. If you’re gonna go drink and hang out with Yuna, why the hell are you doing all this ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) to me?”
“Huh?”
“Do you think I’m a joke?”
He just looked up at me, clearly still confused. That expression made the rage bubble up again, and I almost started cursing him out—but then he suddenly grabbed my wrist, the one still clenched around his collar.
“Yuna? What are you talking about? Why would she—”
He looked so baffled I couldn’t tell if he was playing dumb or genuinely clueless. Judging by his face alone, it felt like I’d misunderstood something. But I steeled myself, determined not to fall for whatever excuse he might come up with. I yanked my hand away coldly.
“Stop doing that gay shit with me. And your blackmailing crap at work? That’s over. I’ll just quit. End of story.”
That last part was kind of bluffing, but I kept my face stone cold. I needed to be the one with the upper hand this time.
Heejae’s face sobered up fast. He frowned deeply, clearly wide awake now.
“Wait… why are you acting like this? What did I do wrong?”
‘What did you do wrong? This shameless bastard—’
Looking at his face full of confusion, hurt, and frustration, I clicked my tongue inwardly.
What, he’s trying to date me and date Yuna at the same time? Or is he seriously pretending not to know? Regardless of how I personally felt about him, this was absolute bullshit.
‘If you like Yuna, just date Yuna and leave me out of it.’
Even if he was only doing this to mess with me, it felt unfair to Yuna. More than anything, from the way she looked at him earlier… they clearly weren’t on the same page. Meaning, Heejae was just toying with both of us. I didn’t even like the guy, but I was still disgusted.
So I snapped at him, irritated and boiling over.
“You’re at least flirting with Yuna. Last time, she even said she left her clothes at your place after drinking.”
“……”
“And today? You drank like a pig again, barely stood up straight, and what? We’re ‘dating’? You wanted to drive out to the seaside together? Are you trying to fucking die?”
“……”
Ranting like that—finally letting it out—did help a little. But contrary to my expectations, Heejae didn’t argue back or even look particularly guilty. He just stared at me for a long moment, then muttered something weird.
“You’re mad… because I was flirting with Yuna? But I wasn’t.”
“…What?”
The second I heard him say that, I realized—this bastard had completely misunderstood the whole situation.
Wait. He thinks I’m jealous of Yuna?
Not because he lied to me and manipulated me, but because I’m somehow in love with him and pissed that he’s seeing another girl?
‘This delusional bastard is running some rosy little fantasy in that empty skull of his.’
So I shouted at the top of my lungs:
“No, you piece of shit! Don’t tell me you actually think I’m jealous of you and Yuna?!”
“You’re not?”
He looked up at me, eyes wide and gleaming like a puppy. I felt my blood pressure spike to the roof.
“The fuck is wrong with you?! Of course I’m not! You’ve been acting like you like me, messing with my head—that’s what I want you to stop, asshole!”
“……”
But Shin Heejae’s face looked like he didn’t believe a single word of what I said. He let out a deep sigh, then suddenly stood up. I instinctively stepped aside to let him through.
He glanced over at the desk for a second, then reached into his pocket—looking for his phone. He pulled it out from his jacket, tapped at the screen a few times, and walked back over to me.
On the screen, he had a messenger chat open—his conversation with Yuna.
“What, so?”
“Just read it.”
“What am I supposed to see?”
“Just read the so-called flirting part.”
I looked at him like he was insane, but Heejae’s face was oddly neutral. For someone trying to explain himself, he looked more annoyed than anything.
‘The fuck? I’m the one who should be pissed off here.’
Still, I took the phone—mostly just to see what the hell he was being so smug about. And the moment I scrolled to the most recent conversation… it wasn’t anything I expected.
Yuna
Whatcha doing? hehe
Heejae
snore
Yuna
Ugh... seriously —__—
You free? Wanna come on stream? lol Your fans keep asking for you lololololol
Heejae
If you pay me a billion won
Yuna
Annoyingㅠㅠ
Why are you avoiding me lately? You think I’m a nobody now??
Heejae
Nah
I just don’t wanna deal with your loser viewers
Yuna
Huh?
Heejae
Your viewers keep shipping us together -.-
Yuna
ㅠ lolololololololol
It’s not like I can stop them~ you know thatㅠㅠ
I think it’s worse since we only stream together lol
Yuna
But you’re literally the only person who’ll collab with me…
Should I introduce you to someone else?
Heejae
Maybe. Who?
Yuna
Wait but I’m shy...
Heejae
Yeah
Yuna
I can’t flirt on camera unless I’ve seen their face at least once lol
There’s this guy who streams near me. A year younger than you.
Yuna
Ooh, sounds good!!
But don’t just introduce him and ditch me, okay?
Heejae
I’m a busy man -.-
Yuna
At least stay until we’re comfortable! ㅠ Don’t just disappear!
Heejae
Ugh, annoying -.-
Yuna
Wanna hang this weekend?
Heejae
Nope, got a date
Yuna
What?! Who??
Heejae
Seyoung
Yuna
Wow, someone’s actually dating you?? lol
Heejae
v-sign emoji
Yuna
lmaoo her name’s the same as that netkama you used to play with!!
Heejae
Yup.
…Calling that “flirting” would be a massive stretch.
Especially with how Yuna replied instantly and constantly, while Heejae took forever and gave short, blunt responses. And the “Woojool” (fake couple acting for content) thing—he hated it. He straight up said he wasn’t interested in being shipped with her, even virtually. He even told her he had a date—with me.
“……”
I stared at the screen in disbelief. Their dynamic was completely different from what I’d assumed. But I still couldn’t shake the confusion over all the cozy vibes I’d picked up on between them before.
So, fumbling for words, I blurted it all out.
“I mean… but you guys drink together… and she leaves her clothes at your place…”
Heejae cut me off.
“We don’t drink together often. And I have no idea why she left clothes here.”
“Not often? But last time, she said—”
“Seyoung, seriously. Why do you always believe her over me?”
He let out an exasperated sigh and ran a hand through his hair.
“She wants to date me. Of course she’s exaggerating everything to you.”
“…Huh?”
“You saw it just now. I’ve been turning her down nonstop.”
Then, with a final stab, he added:
“What kind of lunatic introduces a girl he’s into to another guy who lives nearby?”
