chapter 4
That bastard Heejae paused for a second—maybe because of what I said—then suddenly jumped high, kicking off the wall. In the next moment, his character soared through the air, fingers interlocked into a hammer-fist raised above his head, and came crashing down toward me.
I knew full well that if this hit, it would shave off half my HP—but I didn’t move. I stood my ground.
[Crush Attack]
[Water Hold]
With a loud thud!, my screen flared red. The blow hit my shoulder and nearly sent me sprawling backwards. Just as expected, my HP dropped by half.
But because I didn’t dodge, I was able to immediately restrain Heejae’s landing body with a stream of water. While holding him in place, I hit the R key.
Just like back in the clan room—I used my ultimate, [Paranoma].
Only this time, it wasn’t just a flashy effect.
BOOM—!
With a deafening roar, a massive wave surged across the arena, crashing down over Heejae’s body. He was hurled across the field and slammed into the wall.
Now his HP was barely a tenth of the total.
But instead of scrambling to his feet, that bastard Heejae suddenly burst into laughter.
[Whisper to Party/Clan Friends]
CHeejae: LOOOOOOOOOOOOL
CHeejae: Ah ☆☆ that was so embarrassing LOL
And then—he jumped again.
I couldn’t tell if that bastard was trying to taunt me or if he was just stupid, but either way, it was a perfect opportunity for me.
Basic PVP 101: once you're airborne, you can't change direction. I immediately cast [Water Arrow] and fired a water projectile at him.
But then...
[Swift Step]
To my surprise, he suddenly vanished from view.
And just a second later, my screen turned red again. That meant my character had taken serious damage.
I assumed the attack came from behind and rolled forward. Sure enough, Heejae’s hand narrowly missed my character with a sharp slicing sound.
[Whisper to Party/Clan Friends]
CHeejae: LMAO f* off**
Shin Heejae giggled like a maniac watching me escape his grip. I didn’t even have time to type a response—let alone a comeback. Cold sweat trickled down my back.
Now the match was close again—my HP was down to three bars, his to one.
And that bastard still looked strangely relaxed. I quickly spread [Water Ball] traps around me, trying to block him from approaching. I had no idea what the hell he was planning.
“Shit, I can’t believe he used [Swift Step] from that position…”
Who the hell charges in with just one HP bar left?
If I were him, I’d have created distance—not closed it.
That kind of reckless play was something I’d never be able to pull off myself. It was unnerving.
And yet again, Shin Heejae acted like the [Water Ball] traps I laid were nothing—he used [Swift Step] one more time. Panicked, I aimed [Water Arrow] at the bastard as he sprinted toward me.
“How the hell do you think you’re dodging this?”
He might’ve looked like he was rushing in blindly, but I had a gut feeling I was missing something. That kind of confidence meant he had an ace up his sleeve.
Eventually, I gave in to the pressure and stepped back.
And that—was my fatal mistake.
The moment I stepped outside the [Water Ball] range, Shin Heejae jumped—high—as if he’d been waiting for this exact moment.
I hurriedly cast [Water Arrow], but by then we were already too close. The rushed shot missed, and the next thing I knew, that bastard’s hand was around my neck, lifting me into the air.
[Whisper to Party/Clan Friends]
CHeejae: ㅇ_ㅇ Noona, seriously…
CHeejae: You’re such a scaredy-cat
CHeejae: So cute LOL
I wanted to curse him out—spit every foul word I knew in his face.
But...
Crunch—!
You have been defeated.
Before I could even send a message, my neck was snapped. Just like that, I… lost to Heejae again. After a whole year.
I felt completely destroyed.
* * *
For days afterward, I was too depressed to even log into the game. I kept going over it in my head—if only I’d aimed [Water Arrow] properly at the end, I could’ve won.
“Shin Heejae, please just die already…!”
I was pacing around my room, stewing in murderous rage, when suddenly a message came in from Hyejin.
Hyejin
You
This is you, right?
The skill patterns and timing are totally yours LOL
Hyejin

?
The preview from the link she sent stunned me. It was a YouTube link—to Shin Heejae’s channel.
I was about to reply with [You... watch this stuff?]
…but then I saw the thumbnail—and froze.
[HeejaeTV] Got Schooled By a Noob...
The thumbnail showed a 2D drawing of my character, Sesam, standing triumphantly with one foot on Heejae’s 2D character’s back. And it had already passed 100,000 views.
In a daze, I clicked play.
Just as I thought—it was a recording of our PVP fight in [Bloody Rain].
From Heejae’s point of view, my gameplay had been clean, stylish—edited to highlight the angles well. Even the scene where Heejae killed me was cut so precisely that it looked like a draw.
In reality, I’d been utterly destroyed.
But in the video—it was me who looked like the protagonist, not Shin Heejae.
And just as intended, the hundreds of comments underneath were mostly praising my gameplay.
SproutJae
My heals never look like that… I just throw a watering can ㅠㅠㅠ…

I kept scrolling and reading until I accidentally liked the last comment. That snapped me out of it.
Because I had no idea how the hell I was going to explain this to Hyejin.
She had just started playing [Arcadia] again, and I’d mocked her for it—yet here I was, appearing in a video with Shin Heejae like we were long-time gaming buddies.
It was unforgivable.
I quickly messaged her back.
No… so…
I just made a new character and ended up partying with some people and…
I ✪ Nоvеlіgһt ✪ (Official version) didn’t know it was Heejae’s clan, for f***’s sake!! I swear I wouldn’t have joined if I knew!
Hyejin
Try to calm down and talk straight, oppa.
Uh...
I was rambling like usual, dumping everything in a mess of words, but thanks to Hyejin’s calming tone, I was finally able to explain what happened over the last few days.
She listened quietly at first—
Then started laughing like a maniac at almost every sentence I said.
Is this funny to you?
Hyejin
I mean LOL why’s he calling you noona?
Probably because I’m playing a female character;;
Hyejin
LOOOOOOOL
That bastard definitely has a crush on you. Actually, just yesterday—
Hyejin
He suddenly shouted “Anyone here know Sesam?” on a megaphone. It was so over-the-top LOL
At first I thought he was just being a tryhard, but then I saw the PVP video and knew it was you. I was shocked.
He’s looking for me?
Hyejin
Yup! He’s been screaming your name like ten times a day on the megaphone.
Hearing that made me seriously wonder what that bastard Heejae was planning.
The way he edited the video in my favor didn’t seem hostile at all—in fact, it felt like he was boosting me.
Then, out of nowhere, one of Hyejin’s jokes burrowed into my head and refused to leave.
Hyejin
Anyone would think he’s into you LOL
Hyejin
Oppa, why don’t you just date him and scam all his gear out of him? LOL
I knew she was joking… but it lit a spark in my brain.
Of course, it’s not like I’d actually date Shin Heejae.
Still, her words reminded me of something that happened back in the clan I created—the one Heejae destroyed.
In [Yeongil], there were all sorts of people. Some great, but some just as twisted as Heejae.
And the guy I’d just remembered…
Was the worst of them all. A sleazebag simp named Yatta.
A guy completely obsessed with women—and he’d once been wrecked hard by a netkama.
