chapter 11
I stared at the screen in shock—but thank god, the mic was still off. That scared the shit out of me!
“The fuck is this bastard doing, climbing all over me again? Trying to die or what…”
Fuming, I opened the messenger app on my phone and shot back a reply: [Wanna die?]. Shin Heejae let out a low laugh, as if he’d been staring at the messenger the whole time.
“I mean, why won’t you say anything?”
Bothersome.
“You’re playing hard to get for real.”
You’re boring. I’m hanging up.
“Ah, wait a sec—”
Heejae tried to stop me with a chuckle, but listening to a real-life guy’s voice coming out of my phone at ass-o’clock in the morning was starting to make me feel gross. Plus, I was getting sleepy, so I coldly ended the call.
He tried calling a few more times, but when I didn’t pick up, he finally gave up and sent a message.
[Heejae]
Now it’s finally getting to the fun part fr
Lame as hell. I was yawning.
[Heejae]
Wanna hear a lullaby then?
“…Ha.”
I let out a breathy laugh without even realizing it.
“This bastard… he’s relentless.”
If it were me getting rejected this hard, I wouldn’t even go near a girl like this. But Shin Heejae didn’t just persist—he doubled down.
[Heejae]
Or should I give you a wake-up call in the morningㅇ_ㅇ?
Seeing that, I sniped back to land a hit.
Got plenty of guys who can do that, not just you, lol.
But of course, Shin Heejae was unfazed.
[Heejae]
Any of them a higher level than me? If not, tell ’em to come to Degeuldegeul lol
LMAO you clown 🤡
You really can’t outtalk a lunatic, can you? I found myself snickering, then shut off my screen and tossed my phone a little farther than usual.
Talking with Heejae always managed to both piss me off and make me laugh—probably why it left me feeling like I’d somehow lost.
* * *
“Ugh… that goddamn piece of shit Shin Heejae.”
The result?
Being late for work.
Because I’d thrown my phone farther away than usual, I didn’t hear the alarm clearly and ended up being twenty minutes late.
And it had to be the day I had a scheduled appointment with a client. I broke out in cold sweat. Thankfully, the client didn’t make a big fuss, but the whole day spiraled into chaos, and I ended up staying late.
[Heejae]
When you getting on? ㅇ.ㅇ
It’s your fault, asshole ――
[Heejae]
??
And of course, the root of all this, Shin Heejae, was now pestering me by the minute for missing our login schedule. Every time he messaged me, I cursed back while being steam-cooked in the hellish subway commute.
“God, the sweat stench is insane.”
Normally, I’d head home during off-peak hours, but today I was smashed in a crowd. I finally made it back and collapsed into bed—and then my phone rang.
It was Heejae.
I let it ring and used my foot to power on the computer. Once Discord auto-logged in, the call finally stopped. Fucking persistent.
[Sesam]
Yo, I’m taking a shower
If I didn’t say anything, he’d just keep calling. I typed a quick message in Discord and headed to the bathroom.
After a quick wash, I came out toweling my hair and saw something unexpected—most of the guild members were gathered at the castle.
“What the hell? Is there a siege today?”
But sieges only happened on weekends. Confused, I stood awkwardly nearby and glanced at the unfamiliar guild members.
[Guild Friend Whisper]
‘Heejae’ has logged in.
Not long after, Shin Heejae appeared. The moment he logged in, he beelined for me.
[Guild Friend Whisper]
C_Heejae: Come to the clan Discord channel
“We had a separate clan Discord?”
Perplexed, I followed the invite message and joined the voice channel where everyone had gathered.
Unlike the usual Discord where only Shin Heejae blabbered, this one was lively with voices I couldn’t match to characters.
Luckily, many people had their mics off, so I blended in and just sat there, zoning out while listening. I wasn’t close enough to anyone to match voice to character anyway…
Then, Heejae came in slightly after me, turned on his mic, and started talking.
“We’ve got a siege coming up, so I told all the max-level players to gather for now.”
His tone was as casual as usual—not loud or commanding—but the moment he spoke, the entire channel fell silent. It was eerie.
He calmly began listing the siege “deployment lineup.”
“Other than those who’ve already said they can’t join, I divided it by class. There’s a link in the chat with the deployment chart—please check it. And if you can’t make it on the day, let me know in advance.”
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
Voices—mostly serious-sounding young men—replied in unison.
Then one guy, who sounded like he was in his early twenties, turned on his mic to speak to Heejae.
“Uh, Clan Master?”
“Yes.”
“I looked at the deployment chart, and I think I’d be better off in Area C…”
“Why?”
“Oh, I’m a city-tree spec’d archer, so…”
“……”
“It’s just, with the watchtower on that side, I’d get site visibility, and…”
“……”
“So if the site’s… secured… the fog… um… you can see through it, and…”
When Heejae didn’t respond, the guy started mumbling and eventually trailed off. After a beat of silence, Heejae asked coolly:
“You done?”
“Eh? Uh… I mean, if it’s not okay…”
“No, it’s not that. Why didn’t you finish your sentence?”
“Oh—right. The watchtower’s… um… good for visibility and I can use my tower skills too…”
“You know that if you die at the tower, respawn is the farthest point, right?”
“Huh? Oh… yeah…”
“That’s why only those with Chilgapma tamed, or 300+ movement speed, or high-tier Swift buffs are assigned to the watchtower.”
“Ah…”
“If you don’t have any of those, better stick to the original plan. Got it?”
“Y-yes… Sorry.”
He didn’t sound harsh, but there was a weird kind of pressure in his tone that made disobedience feel impossible. The guy must’ve felt it too—he went quiet and muted his mic.
I stared at the scolded guy for a second, then looked at the deployment chart. Honestly, I didn’t care. I had zero intention of joining the siege anyway. My gear wasn’t up to par, and more importantly, I had no interest in helping protect Shin Heejae’s damn castle.
But when I carelessly clicked the first page—the most important stronghold, the lord’s castle—my name was right at the top.
I rubbed my eyes and checked again.
[Castle – Sesam (Spirit Healer) / Heejae Support]
“What?”
I messaged the bastard right away.
[W_Sesam]
Yo, why the hell am I listed as support at the lord’s castle???
I never said I was joining???
“Pfft.”
He must’ve seen the whisper. I heard his smug little laugh through the mic, followed by soft keyboard clacking.
[W_Heejae]
Of course you’re with me ㅇ_ㅇ lol you’re my heal shuttle
Did you forget how I wiped the floor with you? lol
Then, like hammering it in, he said through the mic:
“Looks like Sesam-noona’s nervous since it’s her first siege. Everyone, keep an eye on her, yeah?”
“……”
“……”
“The fuck…?”
I frowned, caught off guard by his random public declaration.
What the hell was that? A love confession in the guild channel? Even I was confused—and the others with mics on were just as speechless.
And Heejae didn’t stop there. As if talking to himself, he added a cringe line:
“She gets all flustered over this stuff… ah, so cute.”
That last part… was very clearly designed for everyone to hear. Utterly staged, sickeningly sweet.
“Wh… What?”
I shot up from my seat in shock and shame.
Naturally, the Discord chat fell into a freezing silence. But within moments, the guild members recovered and started chuckling, dropping casual encouragements.
[FlowerWall]
Hehe, everyone messes up their first siege~
Don’t worry, Sesam-nim hahaha
[Yeou]
Sesam-nim’s a healing genius, remember? lol
[Hooha]
If it comes to it, we’ll just use the Clan Master as a meat shield! lol
[Lemonzzup]
True lol he’ll carry the whole fight anyway lol
But even buried in those friendly words, I could feel the bullshit vibe. I could practically read their minds:
[Our Clan Master’s got a virtual girlfriend now…]
And they definitely thought it was me.
What Shin Heejae just did was the equivalent of pissing on me to mark territory. From the guild members’ reactions, I could tell just how carefully he’d managed his image.
If he’d been this much of a sleazebag with everyone else, there’s no way he’d be commanding this kind of respect. These weren’t all college kids—some were probably pushing forty.
He must’ve kept strict boundaries, acted competent and mature, always stayed composed and precise.
And now suddenly he’s calling me cute and asking people to take care of me?
If I were in their shoes, I’d think we had something going on too.
The problem was, I couldn’t even deny it outright. As disgusting as it was, this situation was perfectly aligned with my revenge plan—so I couldn’t publicly explain anything.
But… I was boiling. Rage had surged up to the top of my head. I wanted to slam the mic on and scream a denial.
[W_Sesam]
What the f*ck is with this friendly {N•o•v•e•l•i•g•h•t} act?? Wanna die??
Lose a territory and see what happens, bastard. Try running a siege without heals, dumbass.
My pride couldn’t let this slide, so I blew up his DMs with rage.
And what did he respond with?
[LOLOLOL]
Then, on mic, in front of everyone:
“Noona, done showering? Ah.”
And then he cut the mic—like he’d let something slip on accident.
I froze. “What the hell did he just say?”
And then—
The guild members started dropping from the voice chat like dominos.
Three seconds later, I realized what the fuck he’d just done—
And slammed my keyboard in fury.
