Negativity Culmination

Chapter 4: Evaporation

"Grountin, you cut that out this instant!" Grountin's mom reprimanded him.

Grountin stood up, brushed off the dust from his pants, and walked towards her. He unintentionally bumped somebody slightly in his path. They disintegrated immediately. The vapors of the human that was once there looked akin to evaporation. Grountin stared at his hands, trying to fathom what had just occurred. Then he turned to his mother again.

"Don't you dare!" she hollered. "Honey, get him!"

"How?" inquired her husband, completely befuddled. "He's vaporizing with his touch. Are you trying to kill me, woman?!"

Her daughter screamed, "Leave daddy alone!"

"Actually," Grountin interluded, "why don't you all leave me alone?"

Everyone else present paused for a moment of pondering, before the psychology teacher stammered, "B-b-because you need, u-uh, discipline a-and structure!"

"Yeah! That's right!" shouted another staff member. "Matter of fact, if you don't stop now, you'll spend the rest of high school in detention!"

"And grounded!" his mother added.

The gym coach sighed, then said, "Aw, screw it!" as he flung the end of his whip in Grountin's direction.

Once connected to Grountin, the whip formed a wick of sorts, with a azure flame encroaching quickly on the physical educator. He dropped the whip a half a second after he would have been unaffected. He vanished into thin air, like the first individual. Everybody watching was aghast with horror at what had just transpired right in front of their eyes.

Grountin cleared his throat, then plainly stated for all to hear, "Like I told you before, maybe you'd be better off if you just left me alone."

"You're a murderer! We can't just let you off of the hook now!" shrieked his sister.

Grountin sat, crossing his legs, and meditated while everybody else peered at him from a distance, on-guard and dumbfounded. Minutes later, he seemingly awoke, then stood in place slowly.

"The student and gym teacher are fine," Grountin announced confidantly. "They are in a better place."

"He killed them with no remorse!" his sister fervently shouted. "Kill him before he gets us!"

She threw a rock at the alleged murderer. It bounced off of him and struck a different student; carrying the azure flame with it; resulting in another spontaneous flare with virtually no visible remains.

"He did it again!" his sibling bawled hysterically. "Somebody make him stop!"

Grountin uttered, "Calm down. I-"

"He can't do it to all of us! Let's end this jerk!" somebody called to action. "Charge!"

For the second time in his life, Grountin tried to defend from somebody else's attack against him. The first time was against the older sister; he was disciplined for both fighting with a girl despite never having hit her and losing to a girl despite her age and size advantage, plus the sneakiness of the initial attack. Thus, he had a very awkward stance that would have been laughable if not for the seemingly dead people lying in his wake.

Every time somebody tried to strike him or pounce upon him, he reached towards them with an only half-closed fist and watched them smoulder briefly before being turned to dust. Eventually, the insanity came to a halt after a couple hundred brave (or desperate to be seen as such) souls allegedly departed.

"You monster!" his mother wailed at her blue son. "How could you do this to us?"

"I haven't done anything to any you," calmly replied Grountin. "Each of you that touches me shall be transported to a place where you shall have no fear, sadness, or suffering. That is all."

"Well, isn't that wonderful?" his sister sarcastically queried rhetorically. "We're just expected to trust screw-up over here; that he knows what he's doing and that, conveniently, nobody's dead," she more seriously, but comically stated. "Anybody falling for this?"

Everybody but she looked at one another, looked at him rapidly, and then shrugged.

One of the emo kids admitted that they wanted to try going to a better place. He reached his arm outward towards Grountin and met his gaze and hand. Suddenly, he was de-atomized.

"Nooo! You idiots!" Grountin's sister exasperated.

Grountin corrected her, "They are fearful, not idiotic."

"How would you know?!" she roared at him irately. "The guy who gets disciplined for having untied shoelaces all of a sudden knows everything? Please!"

"Nope. Still learning what else I can do," Grountin offhandedly uttered.

Their mother placed a hand on her daughter's shoulder, quietly remarking, "It's out of our hands, darling."

"It's not fair!" Grountin's sister boomed. "I could've killed all men but daddy with those powers!"

"Perhaps that is why you do not possess them," elaborated Grountin.

"Daddy!" she cried. "Grountin's picking on me!"

Grountin's father menaced, "You leave my baby girl alone, boy!"

Grountin, once again, sat in place with his legs crossed to meditate. Everyone else within his vicinity virtually held their breath, for they were aware of their naiveté regarding what may occur if they were to startle the bright blue boy.

Grountin's eyelids slowly split as if a painful epiphany had been realized. As he rose to his feet, the blue energy painted on his body receeded like his innards were draining his skin of its newfound tone.

He pleaded, "Although you no longer need to leave me alone, I do request tha-"

"Finally!" his father celebrated, dashing toward his son with open arms to give him the embrace he had been wanting to give Grountin since his birth.

He grabbed two whips on the ground and swung them both with all his might at his youngest child. Immediately upon contact, blue static charged the first whip to touch Grountin, holding both he and his dad in place for a few seconds.

"Wh-what the hell d-did you just do?!" his most recent attacker stuttered.

Grountin smiled whilst explaining, "I finally understand you. I have understood everybody that I have touched so far." He began walking in the direction of his mother and sister as he continued, "It seems that I have been somehow charged with extra space for valence electrons within the entirety of my being. At least, that's what the chemistry teacher, who only tried to jump me to blend as a brave man, truly theorized and feared."

He stopped after having stepped to the position of his female family members and reached his hand towards his mother's own. An azure light flashed between them for a moment before dissipating and then he removed his digits from hers. Next, he approached his sister, but she ran from him, panicked.

"Get away from me, freak!" his sister squeamishly squealed. "Don't ever touch me!"

"Okay," Grountin replied non-chalantly as he picked a whip off the ground and hurled its end at her.

"How dare you!" shouted both parents in tandem.

His sister cried, "Ouch! You piece of trash! You'll pay for this!"

The cerulean whip lingered on her being for a second before gravity was no longer seemingly suspended.

"Hmm..." Grountin pondered aloud. "It seems that I only can sense your negative thoughts and feelings. Still, that is pretty much enough."

The psychology teacher queried, "What are you talking about? Look, I get that something strange has happened to you, but if you think about it rationally, whatever delusions you're having can be mitigated."

"In that case," he responded bluntly, "why don't we test your claims? Allow me to touch you. Let's see if they're just delusions."

His teacher nervously praised him, "Very good asking for permission. That is a-a much better approach than earlier. Why don't we- ahh!" She failed to finish her sentence due to the startling nature of the blue electricity coursing inside her body briefly due to Grountin's touch. "You're supposed to wait for permission!"

Grountin looked at her with a skeptical face, asking, "Did it really hurt?"

She said with a significantly delayed reaction, "Yes! You nearly killed me!"

"A near kill, you say?" Grountin inched back towards her as she froze in fright. "Very well then. If you think about it rationally, whatever delusions you're peddling can be mitigated if they become true."

She stated, terrified, "Well, okay. Maybe I-I overexaggera-"

He grabbed her, surged his blue electricity inside her, and she became like a halfway-completed disappearing act: there was no reappearance.

"Oh, my god! Somebody stop him!" his sister demanded with a shrill voice.

Grountin casually commented, "If she was gonna pretend to be in pain just to gain sympathy, she must have really hated herself. Even you people can see that."

Everybody else gawked at him in disbelief.

"Perhaps not," he corrected himself. Nevertheless, let's discuss things that you do know. He turned to his sister first and plainly remarked, "The only two deep fears that you harbor is that somehow, I'll find a way to be loved by our parents, thus, making you the unfavorite; and that men will not love you because you stretched your vagina so wide, no normal penis will fit inside you properly." As she knelt with her face buried in her hands sobbing, Grountin turned to his mother next. "Your only deep fear is being alone. You'll settle for anything; even a screw-up like me. But you figure that it's easier to have the love of the rest of the family if you ensure that you aren't targeted by them; thus, you decided that I should be the target once I was conceived."

"B-but that's not..." his mother's voice trailed off, too ashamed to save face with a lie.

"But you're the most fear-laden of the bunch! Hahahahaaa!" Grountin chuckled at his father. "Too many to list, but the biggest theme among them is that people will realize your incompetence. No wonder you lost your job. Somebody actually paid attention for once. Don't worry though. Your wife is too desperate for anybody to leave you. Your daughter is addicted to the pleasure and pain of unrealistically large sex toys; sometimes, not even things designed to be sex toys. She will never leave and get married. They aren't going anywhere no matter how stupid and worthless they find you to be! Hahaha! All of your fears perfectly coincide!"

"Why don't you leave us alone," Grountin's dad mumbled.

Grountin grinned. "And I thought you'd be dumb enough to grab the whip again! Haha!"

His family glared at him as his father continued, "And don't you ever come back again."

Grountin turned towards the inner city and trudged forward, never looking backward.

"And that's why I'm here," Grountin finished explaining his background to a young lady of about the same age.
