Chapter 4: Chapter 4 – Battle and Escape

The battlefield was in chaos. Iwa ninjas advanced mercilessly, and Konoha's squad was outnumbered. Exhausted, Sal moved swiftly among the enemies, using Shunpō with precision, dodging attacks, and delivering quick Wind Palm strikes to push back approaching foes.

I need to end this quickly. I can't let my chakra drain any further, Sal thought.

He used his jutsus cautiously, seizing every opportunity to strike with shuriken and kunai, keeping the Iwa ninjas at bay. But soon, he noticed Takara, surrounded and in a vulnerable position. Despite his dwindling chakra, Sal didn't hesitate. He surged forward with supernatural speed, using Shunpō to close the distance in an instant.

Sal grabbed Takara by the arms, hurling a shuriken at a ninja about to strike the chūnin.

— "Takara, hang in there! We're getting out of here!"

Takara barely had time to react, only feeling Sal's grip as he was yanked out of danger. However, the Iwa ninjas weren't so easily shaken off. A Doton jutsu was cast, creating a wall of rocks that blocked their escape.

I need to be fast…

Sal didn't waste a second. With a Wind Palm strike, he shattered the rock wall, creating an opening. Takara quickly followed as Sal kept the enemies at bay with more shuriken and kunai, trying to slow Iwa's pursuit.

But one of the Iwa ninjas, more experienced, used an earth shield jutsu that wasn't easily broken. Sal realized time was running out.

I can't waste another second…

Pouring all his strength into Shunpō, he dashed forward, breaking through the enemy's defenses. With a precise Wind Palm strike, he collapsed the earth shield, finally clearing the path for Takara and himself to escape.

— "That was… so fast. I couldn't even see it!" Takara gasped.

— "No time for talking. Keep moving," Sal replied.

Meanwhile, Orochimaru's giant serpent, Manda, charged with fury, attacking the Iwa ninjas and clearing a path for the squad's retreat. The massive snake destroyed everything in its path, momentarily forcing the Iwa ninjas to fall back.

Staying calm, Sal focused on protecting his squad members. He made another quick dash, using Shunpō to dart from side to side, grabbing Takara once more when an earth attack threatened to catch him off guard.

Soon, the path ahead cleared, and Sal and Takara rejoined the rest of the squad. Nara Murata, a jōnin from the Nara clan, quickly formulated an escape strategy. Using his shadow jutsu, he cast a curtain of darkness, hiding the squad from the Iwa ninjas and buying them more time.

— "Quick! Follow me!" Nara Murata ordered.

Now reunited, the squad advanced toward the escape route, with Manda still holding off the Iwa ninjas. The serpent's rampage caused massive destruction, forcing the enemies to scatter.

We're almost there… We can't fail now, Sal thought.

The escape continued with difficulty, but the squad finally reached the safe zone. The defensive line was crossed, and the group regrouped to prepare for whatever came next.

— "We made it… we're almost safe," Sal muttered, catching his breath.

Though the battle was lost, Sal knew this wasn't the end. The squad was retreating, but Orochimaru was already planning the next move. Even in this moment of withdrawal, Sal felt he had taken an important step toward proving himself in this new world.
