Chapter 11 - Refining Chakra

Chapter 11: Refining Chakra

“Chakra?” Wakefield murmured, feeling the energy flowing through his body. This was Chakra—the unique energy system of the Naruto world.

Ruofeng sat cross-legged in the courtyard, a gentle breeze stirring the air. His body resonated with the flow of Chakra, and he could feel a terrifying power contained within him. After consuming magical beast meat for breakfast, he sensed a slight increase in his physical strength. The warmth within his body continued to circulate, never dissipating. Following Tsunade’s teachings, Ruofeng refined Chakra according to the Senju Zan’s unique extraction method.

Compared to the mass extraction method taught at the ninja academy, this technique was as different as the Nine Suns Divine Power was from basic internal martial arts.

Ruofeng’s mind turned inward, his formidable spiritual power instantly perceiving the state of his body—like the rumored ability of internal vision. This was the advantage of possessing two lifetimes’ worth of consciousness. The superimposed mental strength allowed him to sense his inner workings with exceptional clarity.

Extracting Chakra involved four steps:

Sense one’s spiritual power, then form hand seals. This was the first step—creating the seals to channel mental energy.
Control spiritual energy and extract the latent energy within one’s cells.
Guide the extracted energy through the Chakra meridians.
Store the refined Chakra in a designated location within the body.

Ruofeng concentrated, guiding the newly extracted Chakra into his dantian. While Chakra could be stored in various locations, most people deposited it in the dantian. Tsunade, however, stored Chakra in her brain, sealing it with a special technique. The Eight Gates technique, used by Guy, injected Chakra into the heart. It was clear that, with the right method, Chakra could be distributed throughout the body for specialized purposes.

Ruofeng steadily stored his Chakra, noticing that his cells did not seem to be significantly depleted. He continued refining, and the Chakra within his dantian surged.

His eyes narrowed slightly as a faint gleam flashed through them. Slowly raising his hand, he murmured, “This is Chakra… what a unique energy.”

He gently pinched a small pebble before him.

Crack.

The stone crumbled effortlessly, as fragile as a pastry.

Laiya approached from a distance, observing him. “It feels like my strength has increased… so this is the effect of Chakra. By wrapping your fists in it, you can unleash terrifying power. However, do not over-extract the energy from your cells—you are still growing, and your body needs that energy to develop.”

Ruofeng withdrew his Chakra into his dantian and then stood up. “Although I managed to extract Chakra, it feels like I only drew from a small fraction of my cells. Even so, those cells are still filled with energy.”

Jiraiya, who had been observing, nodded. “The human body contains roughly thirteen trillion cells, though that number is just an approximation. Did you think you could sense all of them and extract Chakra from every single one on your first try? Take your time. Start with a small portion, and once you gain proficiency, you will be able to refine Chakra from all your cells. The reason your cells still retain energy is due to the medicinal baths and the type of red meat you consume.”

Ruofeng exhaled, nodding. “So that is how it works. Now that I have Chakra, I can enroll in the ninja academy!”

Jiraiya blinked in mild surprise before shaking his head. “The academy’s enrollment for this year has already closed. You will have to wait until next year.”

“With an upper ninja’s recommendation and you being a student of the Third Hokage, can you not get me in?” Ruofeng’s gaze sharpened, scrutinizing Jiraiya.

Jiraiya sighed. “Do you think joining the academy is something to rush? If you insist, I can arrange it, but you must remember—once you are in, there are no skipping grades or rushing through your studies. You will remain in the academy for six years. During this time, you will be safe from war and missions. It is the most crucial period for growth in a Kiba ninja’s life. After you graduate, however, you will be thrust into battle. If you wish to improve at that stage, it will be through trials of life and death.”

His tone carried an unexpected weight, tinged with sorrow, as though reminiscing about something painful.

Ruofeng found Jiraiya’s reaction odd, but he understood the reasoning. The six years at the academy were the ideal time for him to develop. With the Chakra extraction method and the advantage of his reincarnation knowledge, growth was inevitable. What he lacked now was simply time.

He knew that the title of ‘genius’ was just a label. True genius was determined by survival and development, not talent alone. Those who failed to grow were nothing more than stepping stones for others.

Ruofeng nodded. “I understand. Six years in the academy is enough for me to mature.”

Jiraiya gave an approving nod. “Good. The academy may not teach many advanced jutsu, but remember—you have me, a jonin, as your mentor. You also know passed down in your family. That alone will take years to master. As for combat experience, you will gain it through low-level missions. In time, you will understand.”

Ruofeng frowned slightly. Something about Jiraiya’s words unsettled him.

In the past, he had assumed that Jiraiya was simply repaying a debt to his grandfather, who had once supported him. But now, it seemed their connection ran far deeper. And what did Jiraiya mean by “the knowledge passed down in your family”?

Ruofeng turned to him. “My family’s legacy—what exactly is it? Grandpa never mentioned anything about it.”

Jiraiya hesitated, rubbing the back of his head with a sheepish chuckle. “I do not know the full details myself. But do not underestimate your lineage.”

A cryptic answer. But it only made Ruofeng more determined to uncover the truth.
