Naruto: Zanka No Tachi

After subduing Rasa, Minato looked towards the giant, flame-engulfed golem in the distance, carrying Rasa's body towards it. Obito and Yamato were facing Yusuke.

"You could have escaped. Why didn't you? Yusuke clearly wants me dead," Obito asked Yamato.

Yamato laughed, "Because we're friends!"

Obito felt a pang of sadness. In his final moments, the only one by his side was the carefree Yamato.

"How did you discover my ability and use Kakashi's Sharingan to counter it?" Obito asked Yusuke.

Yusuke said calmly, "Does it matter anymore?"

Obito paused, then shook his head, "No. Since you knew Kakashi's Sharingan countered my Kamui, you must know my identity!"

Obito removed his red swirl mask. He wanted to die as himself.

Yusuke, wielding Ryūjin Jakka, charged towards them, flames swirling around him.

Yamato used the Wood Humanoid and roots to attack.

"Slash!"

A massive blade of light sliced through the air; the golem's hand was severed, and the wooden spikes were incinerated by Yusuke's flames. In an instant, Yusuke reached Yamato and Obito.

He slashed at Yamato; the speed was too fast for Yamato to react; a long gash appeared. But to spare Yamato, Yusuke only used spiritual pressure, cutting about three inches deep.

The gash widened, revealing the unconscious Yamato. Yusuke pulled Yamato out; Yamato's removal weakened the golem, causing it to collapse.

Obito used the Wood Release: Sharp Style to aid Yamato, stabbing at Yusuke with a wooden spike.

Yusuke dodged easily, swirling Ryūjin Jakka. Blood sprayed as Obito's right arm was severed. Yusuke pinned Yamato to the ground with Ryūjin Jakka and sealed Obito with a hand seal.

"Chakra Seal!"

A seal appeared on Obito's chest, sealing his chakra, including his Izanagi.

Obito, unable to use chakra, gave up.

Yusuke said softly, "Remember my question at the Rain Country border?"

Obito recalled Yusuke's question ten years ago, when he'd fled into Kamui: "Do you think a false world can truly comfort people?"

Obito felt lost; he didn't know how to answer. He now realized Yusuke knew his plan and identity back then.

"Find the answer in the next world,"

Yusuke said, placing his hand on Obito's forehead.

"Stop!"

Minato arrived, carrying Rasa. Seeing Obito's familiar face, he seemed to remember something.

A yellow flash; Minato arrived beside Yusuke, placing a hand on his arm. But Yusuke didn't let him save Obito; he unleashed chakra, ending Obito's life.

Obito felt relief; his pursuits hadn't brought happiness, only pain. It was over; he would reunite with Rin in heaven.

"But will I go to heaven if Rin is there?"

Obito regretted his actions. He saw Minato, and behind him, Kushina.

"Sorry,"

These were Obito's last words—to Minato, Kushina, Kakashi, Rin, and his Konoha comrades. Obito, the mastermind behind the turmoil in the ninja world, met his end.

Minato sighed, as did Kushina in his mind.

"I had to execute Obito, as Uchiha clan head and Konoha advisor," Yusuke said gravely to Minato.

Minato nodded; he wouldn't have been able to kill his former student. But not killing Obito wouldn't be fair to those who died because of him.

"People must face consequences. Death might be better than facing the village and his friends," Minato said.

Minato hesitated, "I have a request."

Yusuke guessed, "You want to hide Obito's identity?"

Minato nodded, "Yes. Let him remain a village hero in his comrades' memories."

"This is the last thing I can do for him."

Yusuke agreed. They were friends; there was no need for favors. Hiding Obito's identity would also hide a stain on the Uchiha clan. They could claim Obito's other Sharingan was taken by Akatsuki.

Even if the truth came out, the Uchiha clan wouldn't face trouble, but less controversy was better.

"Yusuke, the enemies are gone. Let's return to Konoha."

"Of course. But we need to decide how to deal with Sunagakure."

"True. They have no grounds to negotiate. Yusuke, this White Zetsu is unusual."

"Yes, its life force surpasses others. I'll take it to the Research Institute. Your future happiness might depend on it!"

"Obito! Obito, wake up!"

Obito felt someone shaking him; he opened his eyes. He saw Rin's smiling face. They were surrounded by soft clouds and warm sunlight, like a dream.

"Rin!"

"I'm dead, but seeing Rin is wonderful."

He wanted to speak, but remembering his actions after Rin's death, he felt shame.

Rin, looking youthful, took his hand, smiling gently, "Obito, I've been waiting for you."

Obito's eyes welled up. "I worked for a phantom; even with the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Rin was waiting. What was I doing?"

He finally understood Yusuke's question.

"Rin, I'm sorry. I was wrong."

He cried in Rin's arms. Rin stroked his head, "You were wrong. I wasn't there for you. Cry; it's over."

Obito looked up, "Where do we go? You'll go to heaven; I deserve hell."

Rin tilted her head, smiling warmly, "I'll be with you, wherever we go."
