Naruto: Wolf of the Hidden Leaf

Chapter 5: First Day of School (II)

Just as soon as Minato made his presence known to the class, Kurenai gave a slight bow.

"We greet the Lord Fourth. Class, show respect to the Hokage." She instructed us quickly and added, "Rei, Itachi— sheathe your weapons and apologize for your behavior."

Kurenai's words woke me up and I quickly put both my kunai back to my pouch. I gave a slight bow towards Minato and spoke,

"I apologize for my actions, Lord Fourth."

Although I had quickly reacted with the newest development, Itachi wasn't that flexible. With reluctant movements, he too sheathed his weapon and gave a slight bow.

Umbra, however, wasn't feeling diplomatic. He bared his fangs and growled.. Seeing the situation, I quickly sent a mental message towards him,

'Umbra. Be cool. He's not an enemy.'

'Are you sure?'

'Yes. Very sure. Please stop making murder eyes at one of the strongest shinobi alive.'

With a bit of reluctancy, Umbra stopped growling.

Minato watched the scene with calm amusement. Kurenai, on the other hand, was burning holes into my skull with her glare. I pretended not to notice.

"No, need for such scary words, Kurenai. Besides, these two young shinobis have given the proper response a ninja should give in case of a someone's sudden appearance." He strode forward as he spoke.

"Good work both of you. Others should also learn from these two young ninjas. Work hard and strive to improve yourself every day."

Our homeroom teacher got the cue that Minato wasn't staying much longer. He's probably going to visit every new class.

"Class, thank Lord Fourth for his advice."

"Thank you, Lord Fourth." The class replied like a broken doll.

Minato just nodded and just as he was about to teleport out of there, I interrupted him.

"Lord Fourth. I had a request."

My sudden interruption got everyone's attention. But I promptly ignored that. Minato just gave me quick nod signaling that I was good to go.

"I want to learn the jutsu you had just used. The teleportation technique."

Curiosity flashed through Minato's eyes as he heard my request. I knew that it was extremely unlikely that Minato will actually teach me the Flying Thunder God right now. But I had to try. This might be the last time I ever see him. And, I wouldn't ever be strong enough to face any Akatsuki members in the future if I didn't capitalize on every opportunity I get.

Minato smiled slightly as he replied, "It's quite ambitious for you to ask the Hokage for learning a jutsu. But I recognize the courage that you needed. Unfortunately, you are still not skilled enough for learning this jutsu. Maybe after you graduate and prove yourself, then I might give you some tips."

Good. He was open to the idea of me learning this S class jutsu. That was all I needed for my way in. I did not have a silver tongue nor any particular skills of negotiation, but what I did have is thousands of hours of watching drama series. When you watch that much TV, you pick up a few things.

"How about this? What if the technique could be a reward for something? How about if I can score the highest marks recorded ever in the history of academy, beating your score. Then as result, I might get to be able to access the manual of this technique. And, if our Hokage has some free time, then he can give me a few pointers. You are a busy person after all and I don't want to bother you too much."

This idea has come to my head the moment I saw Minato. I knew how he was.

Although Minato and Naruto looked extremely similar, his character is much different than Naruto's. He was a smart and calculating person unlike Naruto. He almost never did anything without proper calculation. And that was clear in his behavior.

He had realized what I wanted to do right at the moment I have started talking. I could see that he was weirdly happy that a five-year-old kid is trying to negotiate with him. He could've stopped me any time and that would've been the end of my feeble attempt. But he wouldn't do that.

After all, I recognized his presence here for what it actually was. This was a PR stunt. Naruto was going to be born any day now. And considering how caring Minato is towards his family, he would never leave Kushina's side if he didn't absolutely have to.

But the hidden leaf wasn't in the best possible shape after the third great ninja war and Orochimaru's betrayal. The morale of young ninjas was at an all time low. So, Minato is probably here to show his presence and also show that he cares.

And I just gave him the greatest PR tool ever. Morale will go so high when students circulate that the Hokage himself has decided to teach talented young ninjas, then Minato will become more of a favorite for Konoha.

Besides, he wasn't exactly losing anything. Minato himself has the highest score record in the academy. A score that even Itachi himself wasn't able to beat. To him, it was near impossible for anyone to beat his score.

I had no idea if I even had the capability to beat his score. But, I sure as hell wasn't going to say no to a challenge.

Minato replied, "It certainly is an interesting proposition you have given me, young man. But it wouldn't be fair for me give this opportunity to only a single person. So, I've decided this to be free for all. I'm going to circulate an official notice right now: If anyone can beat my highest score in ninja academy, the they will be able to access any single jutsu they want from the Konoha's library, with the addition of specific tips from the Hokage himeself."

Hearing Minato declare that they had the chance to get any jutsu they want excited my class like never before. Whispers filled the classroom as kids started to discuss what jutsu they will want 'when' they score the highest marks.

I wasn't much concerned about them anyway. A promise had been made from the Hokage, which means that I was still good to go even after Minato has died. Sorry, Minato that I'm trying to plan around your death. But, I'm kind of selfish like that.

I hid my emotions from my face and showed my gratitude. Minato just gave a slight nod towards me and disappeared from the class. Kurenai banged the dais to even bring even a semblance of order in this current chaotic class.

My thoughts were elsewhere as I realized the new challenge, I have made for myself. Beating Minato's high score to gain one of the most broken jutsu in Naruto world.

This certainly will be one of the hardest things that I have ever had to do.

And yet I found myself grinning. This'll be fun.
