Chapter 11: Seven Months Later
"Okay, remember Rei, while using this genjutsu the element of surprise is quite important." Kurenai said in her serious sensei tone.
"It also can be quite funny sometimes. You'll be surprised to see how quickly a grown ass man can shit themselves when they see a tree coiling and binding around them. This is the worst fear of a ninja. A fear of losing mobility."
"Yes, Kurenai-sensei. I'll remember."
"So, the name of this jutsu is..." I interrupted Kurenai subconsciously before she could finish.
"Tree Binding Death."
"Yes, exactly." Kurenai replied, "How do you know its name?"
"I mean, it's pretty simple really. The name is literally what it does. It makes an illusion of a tree that binds them and then kills them. I've realized that, most jutsu names are kinda basic and just describe what it does in a short format."
Kurenai couldn't rebuke my opinion of that. Although, I did believe in my logic; it wasn't just because of that I knew its name.
After all, this is the same infamous jutsu Kurenai used on Itachi and got absolutely obliterated in seconds. I can't exactly fault her regarding that though. She is a genjutsu specialist after all. But at that point in time Itachi might've been the strongest genjutsu user alive.
So, yeah, using a B-rank genjutsu on him was practically useless when he himself possessed Tsukiyomi, a S-rank genjutsu which was one of the strongest genjutsu in the whole anime.
"Okay, that's all for today's lesson." Kurenai said as she closed her notebook.
"Today and all other days for that matter. I've taught you all the genjutsu I know of. I have nothing more to teach. It took me years to master all of them and you did all that in less than a year."
As Kurenai spoke, I noticed multiple emotions on her face. It was sort of like pride mixed with envy. I could relate to that. My genjutsu talent truly was otherworldly in comparison to my other sides. Also, my sensory abilities have been heightened by a landslide since I've started my training with Elder Kazi. He had lost one of his arms during the Kurama attack and decided to retire for good this time. His ninken was an enormous wolf even taller than him. Her name was Hana and she was extremely friendly despite her fierce appearance. They were training both me and Umbra to use our clan's talent better.
I had thought that Inuzuka clan only had enhanced smelling power considering Kiba was my primary point of reference. But apparently, we can actually have the same enhanced senses our ninken had. And considering that Umbra was a wolf, it meant that along with an enhanced sense of smell I could also have enhanced hearing, enhanced wide range vision and enhanced night vision. My night vision wasn't as good as the elder's yet, but my other senses have improved by leaps and bounds.
Inuzuka clan really were a clan of excellent sensors. We might not have that much firepower like the Akimichi clan has, but our both physical and chakra senses were extraordinary.
Which was also why I was feeling extremely annoyed by the Root agents following me around for months. They have the brains to avoid our clan compound by miles but don't have enough brainpower to at least observe me from a distance. I mean, I am a sensor type too, you know. They do know that right? Either they were overconfident or they were underestimating me. And honestly, both of that hurt my pride quite a bit. Whatever, I'll deal with this cancer of an organization later. For now I'm pretending as if I haven't noticed their presence even once.
I diverted my attention towards the conversation that I was having. I put on the fake smile I usually used,
"Sorry for that. Being talented really sucks, you know."
Kurenai rolled her eyes at that,
"You and your smart mouth is going to get you killed one day."
"Don't say such scary things, Kurenai-sensei. If word got out that you're wishing your student to die, then your reputation will go to the ground." I replied with a sheepish laugh.
Kurenai tried and failed to reply to that jab. She finally settled with her common, "You brat!"
Kurenai and I have become much closer in the last few months. She was a good teacher and thankfully that psychotic version of her hasn't come out again after that night. That might also suggest that the expression that night was more related to the fear she experienced rather than my genjutsu abilities. I hoped for that, at least.
Seeing that she was going off for a rant, I stopped her,
"Sensei, can you get me in touch with Asuma sensei?"
Kurenai knitted her brow at that, "Asuma? What do you need with him?"
"Well... I have a sword that I bought couple of months ago. I've learned a few things, but I want to be an expert in it. My clan doesn't usually use weapons like swords and considering Asuma sensei is an weapons expert, I thought that if you asked him then I might have a better chance of getting a one-on-one session with him."
"Why do you think me asking him will make a difference?"
"Come on, sensei. I have eyes, you know. I can sense the vibes you two give off."
Kurenai's face went red hearing that. I don't know exactly when Asuma and Kurenai started dating, but it seems that they were quite close even when they were teenagers, which I forget most of the time.
She composed herself quickly and did the most normal thing teenagers do when they are embarrassed. She denied everything.
"I don't know what you are talking about. But I will ask Asuma to teach you whenever he has free time. Besides that, I don't think I have anything more to teach you anymore."
"Yes, about that. Didn't you say that you can get me higher ranked jutsus from the Konoha library? What about A rank jutsus? I want to learn them."
"Well..." Kurenai said as she awkwardly scratched her head.
"Konoha doesn't exactly have the best arsenal of genjutsu. We might have one or two of them. But I don't have enough skills to perform them. The only one that can perform them is the Lord Third."
I knew that already. Hiruzen might be one of the worst military leaders ever, but he still is an excellent shinobi. The only reason I even brought up A-rank genjutsu in the first place was to turn the tide of the conversation towards Hiruzen. I wanted to learn from him. Getting him to teach me should be pretty easy after he sees my talent and after I give him some 'will of fire' bullshit.
"Okay, then. If he is the only one that can perform those jutsu then I need to learn from him."
"Ha! Good luck trying to get the Hokage to personally teach you."
"I mean, I can at least make a case for myself if I can personally meet him and show him my abilities. Can you please ask Asuma sensei to bring his father with him?"
Kurenai saw through easily what I was trying to do. She sighed,
"You're really reaching here, kid. Trying to impress both the father and son at the same time is not exactly easy. Especially considering Asuma doesn't exactly see eye to eye with Lord Third most of the time."
"Pretty please with a cherry on top. I'm sure they'll both be convinced after they see my abilities even once." I pleaded with my 'cutesy face'. Although the growing fang on my teeth was proving to be hampering in my ability to look cute.
"Don't even try to use that against me. I know very well how much of a shrewd kid you are. But nevertheless, I will try convincing Asuma. Just don't get your hopes up."
I gave a genuine smile hearing that,
"Thank you, sensei!"
"Yeah, yeah. Don't try to butter me up after you've got what you want."
I chuckled hearing that. Kurenai continued, pointing her finger towards Umbra.
"Why is Umbra wearing a scarf?"
I laughed hearing that question. I've been asked this question too many times today.
"He thinks that the scarf makes him look cool."
Kurenai narrowed her eyes hearing that.
"Seriously?"
"Unfortunately, yes. I really hope that it's just a phase."
Hearing my conversation with Kurenai, Umbra opened his eyes from his nap.
'It's not a phase. The scarf really does makes me look cool.'
I just groaned hearing his response. I swear dealing with Umbra is like dealing with a teenager.
