Chapter 200: Chapter 200: For the Sorrow of Konoha
The deaths of Takashi and Ishinosuke provided Regan with crucial intelligence: the Wind Wall was laced with innumerable blades of wind.
"The wall is infused with a dense formation of wind blades. There are only two ways to break through."
"One is to tear it open with powerful Fire Release ninjutsu. The other is to weaken the wall's strength, then charge through in one decisive push."
Regan didn't need to say it outright, his meaning was clear. This was going to cost lives.
Outside the Wind Wall, Veigar had also witnessed the actions of Takashi and Ishinosuke. From them, he, too, had deduced the Wind Wall's weakness.
At the same moment Regan finished analyzing the Wind Wall's flaw, the puppets, previously immobilized by the barrier, began to move once more.
Chakra threads pierced through the wall, tethering to the puppets, manipulated by Suna's puppet masters as they launched an assault from the rear on the Konoha shinobi.
Blades gleamed from the puppets' limbs, slashing forward. The Konoha shinobi stationed at the rear responded swiftly, drawing their kunai to counter the threat.
"Regan-sama, we need a decision!"
The voice came from Takuya Shimura, standing at Regan's side.
Regan gave a sharp nod, turning to the shinobi behind him.
"For Konoha!"
His gaze locked onto the wounded, and they understood. No words needed.
"For Konoha!"
They echoed his cry.
Without hesitation, the wounded stepped to the Wind Wall's edge. They knew what must be done. They would forge a path of escape with their own lives.
"Don't get bogged down, prepare to retreat!"
Regan issued the order, watching his comrades confront the puppets.
"Yes, Regan-sama!"
Despite their acknowledgment, their hands never ceased moving.
Water Release: Water Formation Wall!
Earth Release: Earth Formation Wall!
With a synchronized display of defensive ninjutsu, Konoha shinobi managed to temporarily halt the advance of Suna's puppets.
"Move!"
At Regan's command, the chosen shinobi ignited their chakra and hurled themselves at the Wind Wall.
They charged toward death itself.
Regan and the rest of the Konoha unit followed in their wake.
"Forward!"
"For Konoha!"
Those who led the charge unleashed one final, resounding cry in their lives.
Boom.
A burst of blood sprayed through the Wind Wall, staining those nearby in crimson.
Boom. Boom. Boom…
Explosions of blood erupted as shinobi fell, but each detonation weakened the Wind Wall, carving out a gap.
"Go!"
Blood dyed the Wind Wall red.
Regan and his remaining shinobi surged forward, powered by chakra, breaking through at last.
The survivors, around twenty, escaped just as the Wind Wall's weakened strength restored itself.
But not all were so fortunate. A dozen shinobi were left behind.
"Ahhh!"
"Ahhh—!"
Boom. Boom. Boom.
More blood clouds burst as those trapped behind were cut down.
Just as Regan and his unit dared feel relief, Suna's hidden forces launched a fresh ambush.
The ambushes were unrelenting, trap after trap, each seamlessly following the last.
The original force of over two hundred Konoha shinobi had yet to reach the Suna encampment, and already, they'd been reduced to a mere fraction, barely a tenth of their number.
Wind Release: Great Sickle Weasel Technique!
Multiple Suna wind-style shinobi swung their Three-Star Fans in unison, sending a massive cyclone hurtling toward Regan's group.
Earth Release: Triple Earth-Style Wall!
Three Konoha earth-style users swiftly formed hand signs, raising a triple-layer barrier.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
But the cyclone shattered all three barriers with overwhelming force.
The earthen walls crumbled.
The three shinobi at the front were instantly shredded by wind scythes, their bodies torn to ribbons before they could even scream.
Behind them, two more who failed to dodge were consumed by the slicing wind.
"Ahhh…"
"Ahhh…"
The hurricane passed. The survivors saw the two who'd fallen, bodies riddled with lacerations, as though torn by a thousand tiny blades.
Only wind-style jutsu with countless fine-edged wind blades could produce such wounds.
"Thought you could run?"
"We've been expecting you. None of you are leaving!"
The Suna commander, Soichiro, roared with laughter, Three-Star Fan in hand as he confronted the survivors.
Regan's face twisted in grief. He scanned the handful of shinobi left, then back at Soichiro's larger force. Despair crashed down on him.
The mission had failed.
And now… he was going to die.
But Regan refused to go down so easily.
Beneath that crushing despair, cold clarity emerged.
There was only one way out now: fight to the death, and maybe, just maybe, carve out a sliver of survival.
"I am Regan Shimura!"
He let out a desperate roar.
"Kill!"
"Take one down with you!"
His cry ignited the last blaze of defiance in the remaining Konoha shinobi.
"Kill!"
"Even in death, take one of them!"
Fueled by desperation, they charged Soichiro.
Seeing their resolve, Soichiro and his men instantly raised their guards.
They didn't retreat.
Wind Release: Thousand Faces of the Storm!
Soichiro led a unified Wind Style collaboration, unleashing a technique that scattered wind blades in all directions.
Their objective was clear: stall Regan's team, long enough for reinforcements.
Soichiro had orders from Ebizō himself: capture survivors. Preferably Regan Shimura, or any high-ranking Konoha officers.
A living jōnin commander held invaluable strategic value.
Shhk. Shhk. Shhk…
Countless wind blades sliced through Konoha shinobi. Blood poured from fresh wounds, turning the ground red.
"Kill!"
Soichiro clashed directly with Regan, his Three-Star Fan slicing the air.
Nearby, Veigar stood motionless.
He watched the slaughter unfold without a trace of emotion.
From his cloak, he drew a set of kunai, etched with Flying Raijin Formulae, ready to act.
