Naruto : Unknown Brothers

Chapter 1: The start

The old Hokage sat alone in his office, his hands trembling as he stared out the window at the village he had sworn to protect. The loss of his successor, along with his wife, had left a gaping hole in the village's leadership. And now, two children were left in the wake of tragedy—two innocent lives, bound by blood to the very legacy that had caused their parents' deaths.

Naruto and Yuji, the sons of the fallen Hokage, were now orphans. One had been born only a night ago, the other two years prior. The newborn, with his father's bright yellow hair and piercing blue eyes, was a perfect replica of his late father—an omen of the future that could be both a blessing and a curse. The older brother, Yuji, had inherited his mother's shining red hair and his father's blue eyes.

The Third Hokage stood in silence, torn between duty and love. He knew the dangers these children would face. Naruto, as the jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails, was already marked by enemies, and his future was filled with threats—assassins, spies, and hatred directed at the very essence of his existence. But it wasn't just Naruto's life that was in danger. Yuji, though not burdened by the same dark legacy, would be a target as long as he remained close to his brother. The bond between them would only put them both at greater risk.

It was with a heavy heart that the Hokage made his decision. The children must be separated.

Both will be placed in different orphanages, far away from each other. Yuji will change his name from Namikaze to Uzumaki due to his looks, while Naruto will not have any last name, making sure that they would not have any ties between them except blood that they don't know they share.

No matter how much he tried to rationalize it, the Hokage knew that this was a choice that would haunt him for the rest of his days. He would have to lie to the world, pretend that the Fourth had no heirs, and keep the brothers apart for as long as it took.

"Forgive me," the Hokage whispered to the empty room, his voice breaking. "I'm doing this to save you both."

And so, with a heavy heart, the Hokage summoned his most trusted advisors. Just like that, the separation of the brothers was set into motion.

[6 years later]

 ---

"One hundred thirty-two."

Yuji's fist hit the tree again, the thud ringing out in the quiet training ground. His body was screaming at him to stop, muscles burning, sweat pouring down his face, but he didn't let up. He was almost done with his usual routine, and he couldn't afford to quit now.

"One hundred thirty-three."

Another hit, and the pain in his arms was almost unbearable. He could feel the sweat soaking through his clothes, his body stinking of exhaustion, but he didn't care. He had to keep going. He had to push himself if he wanted to make it

He wasn't just any kid. He was an orphan, and he knew how the village saw him. He wasn't some bright future for Konoha. He wasn't the Hokage's son. He was just another kid left behind after the Nine-Tails attacked, a stain to the rather prestigious Konohas image. And if he wanted to change how people saw him, he had to train. He had to be the best.

"One hundred forty-one."

For a moment, his mind wandered to his mom. Her smile, the warmth of her hugs, the sound of her voice—it all rushed back in flashes. It wasn't much, but it was enough to keep her memory alive. His dad? That was harder to remember. He couldn't picture his face at all. All he had was a voice—a muffled voice. But that was something. Better than nothing, at least.

Yuji had been just a toddler when the Nine-Tails attacked. He couldn't remember the chaos, the destruction, but he sure as hell remembered the loneliness. It was the one thing that stuck with him. The feeling of being alone. The feeling that no one was ever really there.

"One hundred fifty. Fifty more to go, Yuji. You got this."

He wasn't going to stop until he reached his goal. He was training for the Chunin exam, pushing himself to be better than ever. He'd passed the Genin exam a year ago at the tender age of 7, but that wasn't enough. He had failed the infamous "Kakashis test" with his team. And he wasn't about to go back to the Academy like the others. His pride wouldn't let him. So he joined the Genin Corps and started taking missions. He trained hard every day, getting stronger, trying to make a name for himself. A stupid idea being so young, but whatever, no one was here to stop him.

During that time he was lucky enough to get to know his chakra nature, which was water, and learn a justu. A simple C – rank water bullet, but it was still a Justu.

"One hundred ninety-one."

He wasn't done yet. Not by a long shot.

---

Standing in the stadium, surrounded by the other Genin Corps members, Yuji waited nervously for the trial to get his Chunin vest. His heart was pounding in his chest as he scanned the crowd of hopefuls. Some were calm, others just as tense as he felt. The air was thick with anticipation—today would decide if all his hard work would finally pay off.

He could see the higher-ranking ninjas up on the platform, their eyes scanning the crowd, guessing which of them would pass. There was no turning back now. He'd pushed his body to its limits, trained for hours, perfected his jutsu—all for this moment. He was ready. He had to be.

The trial began. It was a simple battle royal: each Genin would fight another until they couldn't continue or surrendered. The examiners would judge every round, deciding who would earn their promotion. It was a straightforward way to filter out the weak from the strong, to see who was truly worthy of the title of Chunin.

Quickly, Yuji's turn came.

His opponent was another kid, around 13 years old, someone he didn't know well but had seen around.

"Start!" the protector of the exam yelled.

The moment the word left his mouth, Yuji sprang into action, hoping to catch his opponent off guard. Using Shunshin, he appeared next to the Genin and threw a punch aimed at his stomach. But the boy was ready and blocked the punch. Still, the strength of the hit left a bruise.

Tsking in annoyance, Yuji quickly reacted, bringing his left leg up to strike his opponent in the kneecap, then following it up with a right hook to the face. The punch connected, sending the boy stumbling backward.

But as the boy fell to the side, Yuji's eyes widened. To his side, the boy was forming hand signs and inhaling, ready to launch a jutsu. Yuji barely had time to react, but he managed to form a hand sign of his own and inhaled as well.

"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"

"Water Style: Water Bullet!"

The fireball and water bullet collided midair, their forces clashing. Quickly, Yuji's water bullet overpowered the fireball, dousing the flames and knocking the boy out cold.

Yuji stood tall, wiping the sweat from his brow. That was just the first round. There was more to prove, more to show.

As the trials continued, his confidence grew. Each fight was another chance to demonstrate his strength and dedication. He fought with everything he had, pushing past his exhaustion, remembering every painful training session that had led him here.

Finally, after what felt like hours, the trials were over. The Genin Corps members gathered in front of the examiners. Yuji stood among them, bruised and sore, but proud of how far he'd come.

One of the examiners stood up and addressed the large crowd.

"Today, you've all proven yourselves worthy. Some of you have shown great promise, and some of you have shown incredible strength. But only a few will be chosen for the rank of Chunin."

Yuji's stomach twisted with nerves. This was the moment. He could almost hear his heartbeat in his ears.

"The following people are to be promoted to Chunin: Koruki Amada, Asake Kurama…"

As the names continued, Yuji waited. He didn't dare to hope. But he couldn't stop himself from wishing, from silently begging whoever was listening to call his name.

"…and finally, Yuji Uzumaki," the examiner called.

For a moment, everything stopped. Yuji's heart skipped a beat, and his feet moved before he even realized it. His legs shook beneath him as he walked to the stage, his mind racing.

The examiner placed a hand on his shoulder, a rare smile flickering across his face. "Congratulations. Do your village proud. May the fire bloom within you."

Yuji stood still for a moment, staring at the examiner. Then, as the weight of the words hit him, a grin slowly spread across his face. He had made it.
