Chapter 11: Chapter 11: The Path of the Eight Inner Gates
The weeks had flown by since the incident with the Uchiha brothers, and the memory of their defeated forms beneath that tree had become a distant, yet satisfying, recollection. I had continued my relentless training with Might Dai, pushing my body to its limits and beyond. The rigorous regimen that exceeded my previous struggles had become second nature, and with each passing day, I could feel myself growing stronger, faster, and more resilient.
Today, as the first light of dawn cast a soft, golden hue over Konoha, I found myself once again amidst the tall trees that surrounded the village. The air was cool and crisp, invigorating my senses as I prepared for another intense training session. Dai had summoned me early, his voice brimming with an unusual excitement. And he was already brimming with it on the daily! There was something different in the air, a sense of anticipation that I couldn't quite place.
I arrived at the usual training spot to find Might Dai already waiting, his lean frame a silhouette against the rising sun. His eyes sparkled with a mix of pride and determination as he watched me approach.
"Good morning, Shirokumo!" Dai greeted, his voice as energetic as ever. "Are you ready for today's session?"
I nodded, feeling a surge of eagerness. "Always, Dai-san. What do you have in store for me today?"
Dai's smile widened, and he motioned for me to follow him deeper into the forest. "Today, my youthful friend, you will be embarking on a new path. A path that will unlock your true potential."
Curiosity piqued, I followed Dai through the dense foliage until we reached a secluded clearing. The sun filtered through the canopy above, casting dappled patterns on the forest floor. It was a place of tranquility, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the village.
Dai turned to face me, his expression becoming serious. "Shirokumo, you have shown incredible dedication and resilience in your training. You've proven time and time again that you have the heart of a true warrior. The power of YOUTH burns fiercely within you! That is why I believe you are ready to learn my secret, forbidden technique, one that has been passed down through my family for generations."
My heart raced with anticipation. I knew exactly what Dai was referring to. The legendary Eight Inner Gates. The very technique that had transformed him from a humble, but passionate man into a force of nature and unparalleled power capable of defeating numerous legends at once.
"But are you sure you're willing to teach me something so precious?"
"Of course! The only thing I ask is that you are responsible with using it!"
"Dai-san," I said, my voice trembling with excitement, "Okay. Please teach me! I'm ready!"
Dai nodded, his eyes shining with pride. "Indeed, Shirokumo. I know you are. The technique I am talking about is known as The Eight Inner Gates. They are a series of closed chakra points within the body that, when opened, allow a ninja to surpass their physical limits. It is a dangerous technique, one that comes with great risk to your body and physical health. But I believe you, with your incredible strength forged through the passion of YOUTH, are ready to begin mastering it."
I felt a rush of adrenaline as Dai's words sank in. The Eight Inner Gates were known to be one of the most powerful and dangerous techniques in the ninja world. To even consider learning it was both thrilling and daunting.
"Your body is more than capable of handling the strain of this technique, at least to a degree," Dai continued. "You have built a solid foundation through your rigorous training over the years. By starting to master the Gates now, you will gain a significant advantage as you grow older. Your body will become more accustomed to the immense power and strain, allowing you to wield it with greater control than most."
I nodded, determination welling up inside me. "I'm ready, Dai-san. Please, teach me the way to open the Eight Inner Gates."
Dai smiled, a look of deep satisfaction on his face. "Very well, Shirokumo. But remember, this path is not to be taken lightly. The Eight Inner Gates can grant you incredible power, but they also come with great risk. You must train diligently and never lose sight of your purpose."
With that, Dai explained the concept of the Gates, detailing each one and the effects it had on the body. He spoke of the incredible power that came with opening each Gate, but also the dangers of pushing too far. The first Gate, the Gate of Opening, was the initial step, unlocking the brain's restraints on muscle strength and granting a significant boost in power and speed.
As Dai explained the technique, I listened in awe, feeling a mix of excitement and trepidation. This was a new level of training, one that would push me beyond my limits and test my resolve like never before. It was the key to opening new possibilities for my future as a shinobi!
"Now, Shirokumo," Dai said, his voice steady and reassuring, "it's your turn to put what you've learned into practice. Focus your chakra and feel the flow of energy within your body. Visualize the first Gate and channel your chakra towards it."
I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath as I centered myself. I could feel the chakra coursing through my veins, a pulsing energy that responded to my will. After all my training with the Rasengan, even though I hadn't gotten close to mastering that technique, my base chakra control had improved by leaps and bounds compared to the clusterfuck it was when I initially joined the academy. With careful concentration, I directed the flow of chakra towards the point Dai had described, feeling a subtle shift as I unlocked the first Gate.
The sensation was unlike anything I had ever experienced. A surge of power washed over me, my muscles tingling with newfound strength. My body felt lighter, my movements more fluid and precise. I opened my eyes, feeling a rush of exhilaration as I realized I had done it. I had opened the first Gate.
Dai's eyes gleamed with pride as he observed my progress. "Well done, Shirokumo! You've taken the first step. Remember, this is just the beginning. With each Gate you open, the power and risk will increase. You must train diligently and never let your guard down."
I nodded, my heart swelling with determination. With Dai's guidance, I knew I could still achieve greatness. As the morning sun climbed higher in the sky, casting its golden light over the forest, I felt that this was my path, and I was ready to walk it, no matter the cost. The power of the first Gate coursing through my veins was exhilarating, but there was no time to revel in it. Dai's guidance was unwavering, his presence a steady anchor as I delved deeper into this forbidden technique.
"Excellent, Shirokumo. Now, let's move on to the second Gate, the Gate of Healing," Dai said, his voice a calm contrast to the intensity of the training. "This Gate is located in the brain, just like the first, and it temporarily increases your body's ability to revitalize itself. This will allow you to recover from fatigue much faster even in the midst of battle."
I nodded, focusing once more. The concept of the second Gate was daunting, but I had come this far and was determined to press on. Closing my eyes, I visualized the flow of chakra, directing it towards the next point Dai had described. The process was more challenging this time, the energy resisting my control as I pushed it further.
After what felt like an eternity, I felt the shift, a surge of vitality flooding my system. My body seemed to vibrate with renewed energy, the lingering fatigue from my earlier training sessions melting away. I opened my eyes, breathing heavily, but feeling more alive than ever.
Dai's face lit up with a proud smile. "Well done, Shirokumo! You've successfully opened the second Gate. The recovery and endurance this grants you will be invaluable in battle. But remember, this is just another step. The path only gets harder from here."
I nodded, my determination unwavering. "What's next, Dai-san?"
"The third Gate, the Gate of Life," Dai replied, his tone growing more serious. "This one is located at the top of the spinal cord. Opening it will greatly increase your physical strength and speed. However, the strain it places on your body is significant. You must be very cautious. Are you ready?"
I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the next challenge. "Yes!"
The risks were becoming more apparent, but so were the rewards. I closed my eyes once more, centering my chakra and directing it towards the third Gate. The resistance was even greater this time, my body protesting against the immense strain. Pushing through the discomfort, I focused all my willpower on the task at hand. Finally, I felt the Gate open, a tidal wave of power surging through me. My muscles felt like they were on fire, my veins coursing with an almost unbearable energy. All the hair on my body stood on end as my skin burned hot red.
I gasped, struggling to stay upright as the overwhelming force threatened to consume me.
Dai was immediately at my side, his hand steadying me. "Breathe, Shirokumo. Control the power. Don't let it control you."
With his guidance, I stabilized myself, the initial shock of the third Gate's power gradually subsiding. I looked at Dai, my breath coming in ragged gasps. "I did it, Dai-san. I opened the third Gate!"
Dai's eyes gleamed. "Yes, you did. And you did it well. But now comes the most important part. Hear me and hear me well."
He paused, waiting for me to nod in understanding before he continued.
"The fourth Gate, the Gate of Pain, and the fifth Gate, the Gate of Limit, are far more dangerous. They put immense strain on the body and mind, and opening them without proper control could result in permanent damage or even death should you do it in the midst of battle."
His words were a sobering reminder of how dangerous this technique was, after all, Rock Lee got basically crippled after opening the fifth inner gate against Garaa. Part of that was, of course, because of the damage dealt by Garaa, but the spine damage he received was from the gates alone.
"You must not attempt to open the fourth or fifth Gates until your body is fully ready. Grow up first. When you're a teenager, you ought to be able to withstand the strain. The training you've undergone so far has prepared you to handle the first three Gates, but pushing beyond that now would be reckless."
I nodded, the weight of his warning sinking in. "I understand, Dai-san. I won't take any unnecessary risks."
Dai's expression softened slightly, his pride in my progress clear. "Good. Remember, Shirokumo, the true power of the Eight Inner Gates lies not just in the strength they grant, but in the control and discipline required to wield them. Continue to train diligently, and one day, you will unlock their full potential. Even I, to this day, am only capable of withstanding the opening of the sixth inner gate."
