Chapter 58: 《Naruto: The Ōtsutsuki Bloodline》Chapter 61: Physical Death Is Impossible, but Social Death Is Overwhelming
"Bastard!"
Inside a cave somewhere in the Land of Rain, the sound of rain pattering outside was endless. But inside, Obito Uchiha's heart was ablaze.
Staring at the wanted poster in his hand, which bore a somewhat exaggerated likeness of his face, his mind buzzed uncontrollably.
Even though he had anticipated this outcome, actually seeing it happen still made it hard for him to keep his composure.
Especially...
"Kakuzu has his sights set on me?!"
"There's actually been some discussion within the organization about whether or not to take you out."
Zetsu, standing nearby, looked at Obito with an expression of mild exasperation.
"Even Itachi Uchiha was shocked by your existence. He's starting to question your true identity. Fortunately, Konohagakure didn't release too much information about you."
"Of course they didn't. They wouldn't want to embarrass themselves, considering I killed the Fourth Hokage..."
Obito snorted coldly. And he wasn't wrong—Konohagakure had indeed withheld the details of his "achievements."
His specific abilities weren't listed either. The poster simply marked him as "extremely dangerous," noted his possession of a powerful Sharingan, and offered an enormous bounty.
But that was enough. The bounty alone was enough to stir countless bounty hunters into action.
And the mention of the Sharingan would certainly pique the interest of the major nations.
"Hey hey hey, Obito, you've really made a name for yourself in the ninja world now!"
White Zetsu grinned mischievously at Obito.
"That bounty is huge! You should've seen Kakuzu's eyes when he mentioned you—they were practically glowing green."
"Shut up. His eyes are green to begin with..."
Black Zetsu cut off White Zetsu's playful remark.
"So, what's your plan now? Have you dealt with that Flying Thunder God mark yet?"
"I've taken care of it."
Obito's voice was cold as he snorted again.
"It's surprising that Minato Namikaze could still cause me trouble even after his death, but it won't happen again."
When it came to Minato, Obito's feelings were complicated.
Perhaps he resented Minato for being late that day, or perhaps he hated him for failing to recognize his former student and mistaking him for Madara Uchiha.
But all of that was in the past. Now, he was Madara Uchiha!
"As for what's next, I'll focus on the Akatsuki for now. We need more manpower. Also, send someone to the Land of Water to investigate the situation there."
"Agreed. The Akatsuki does need more people, but we already have a target in mind."
Seeing Obito unusually calm, Black Zetsu felt slightly relieved.
"The situation in Kirigakure also needs to be clarified. After all, both the Three-Tails and the Six-Tails are still there. Let's send Itachi Uchiha's team—Jūzō Biwa is familiar with Kirigakure."
"Alright."
Obito nodded. Sending Itachi was indeed a good idea. At the very least, it would keep him too busy to bother Obito.
"By the way, who's the new recruit?"
"Apparently someone from a cult. I don't know the specifics, but from what I've gathered, they seem to have some unique expertise in soul-related techniques. Supposedly, they can't die."
Black Zetsu didn't hold back, explaining the situation directly.
"A cult? Immortal?"
Obito's curiosity was piqued. He was genuinely intrigued by the idea of immortality and wanted to see what it was all about.
But that was just idle curiosity. After all, he was planning to create a new world—immortality wouldn't matter much in the grand scheme of things.
"I see."
With that thought, Obito nodded and asked casually,
"By the way, who's recruiting them?"
"Oh, I know this one!"
Before Black Zetsu could answer, White Zetsu interjected cheerfully.
"It's Kakuzu—the guy whose eyes were glowing green at the thought of your bounty!"
"Kakuzu..."
In that moment, Obito's gaze darkened further, while Black Zetsu shot White Zetsu a look that clearly said, I'm going to kill you later.
...
"Hey, hey, hey, Sasuke, why are you still blushing?"
Early morning in the streets of Konohagakure, Naruto teased Sasuke with a smug grin. Behind them, Kitagawa Minamoto trailed along, still half-asleep.
"Shut up, idiot!"
Sasuke glared at Naruto, unable to comprehend how this guy could be so unfazed.
And not only that—he was acting downright proud of himself!
If it weren't for the fact that they'd stayed up late last night and he'd been "voluntarily forced" to share a room with Naruto, Sasuke would've pretended not to know him.
Thinking back to last night, when Naruto had used that ridiculous Sexy Jutsu just as a group of ninja entered the room...
The air had felt like it froze in place. Sasuke had genuinely wanted to slam his head into a wall and disappear.
"Alright, alright, it's not a big deal. Besides, didn't Jiraiya-sama agree to train you two? What more could you want?"
Minamoto, still groggy, chimed in. Naruto nodded enthusiastically.
"Exactly! I developed that jutsu specifically to get that pervy old man's attention."
"Minamoto-senpai, I remember you laughing pretty hard last night."
Sasuke gritted his teeth. Sure, they'd secured Jiraiya's guidance, but unlike Naruto, he didn't have the thick skin to brush off the embarrassment.
But soon, he realized that this senior of theirs wasn't so simple either.
"You must've been mistaken. I'm a ninja—professionally trained. No matter how funny something is, I wouldn't laugh."
Minamoto shook his head earnestly, his expression as sincere as could be.
Naruto, however, shot him a skeptical glance. He distinctly remembered this "professional ninja" chuckling quietly in the corner...
Suddenly, Naruto's grin faded. Something didn't feel right.
"Minamoto-senpai, have you ever experienced something so embarrassing you couldn't recover from it?"
Sasuke, still reeling from the previous night's events, asked in a low voice.
"Me? I don't think so."
Minamoto rubbed his chin thoughtfully. After a moment, he froze.
Because he suddenly remembered—there was something.
Thirteen or fourteen years ago, when he'd been hit by a truck and died, he hadn't had time to clear his phone.
Not to mention his computer's browsing history... and that one folder he hadn't hidden...
In that instant, he finally understood the meaning of "physical death is impossible, but social death is overwhelming."
If anyone had discovered those things, he didn't even want to imagine the consequences.
For a moment, his fists clenched involuntarily.
"Minamoto, there you are."
Just as he was considering whether to "educate" these two brats about the "iron fist of a ninja," a voice called out.
Looking up, he saw Kakashi approaching, holding a copy of Make-Out Paradise. However, Kakashi's gaze briefly flicked to Naruto, as if recalling the unforgettable scene from last night.
"Kakashi-sensei."
Minamoto perked up immediately upon seeing Kakashi. Turning to Naruto and Sasuke, he said,
"You two head to school on your own. I've got other things to take care of."
"Another mission?"
The two boys' eyes lit up with envy.
"No, just some minor errands. I'll see you later."
Waving them off, Minamoto jogged over to Kakashi. He did, in fact, have something to take care of this morning.
And it wasn't a mission—it was...
"Why are they making me pick up some certificate so early in the morning? Don't they sleep?"
Grumbling inwardly, Minamoto decided it was better to get these matters sorted out sooner rather than later. After all, he had plenty of other things to focus on.
For instance, it was about time he started mastering Ice Release. And he'd nearly finished studying the Yin-Yang techniques he'd obtained from Obito...
