Chapter 50: Konoha's Hardest Worker! Temporarily Joining Orochimaru and His Student on a Mission Outside the Village
The next morning.
After his usual morning training, Uchiha Ryun arrived early at the gate of the Senju clan compound.
The day before, he had promised Kushina that he would come to teach her the "tree-climbing" skill.
However, after waiting for a long time at the gate, he still didn't see Kushina.
Mito Uzumaki noticed him and came out leaning on her cane to chat with him for a while.
She said Kushina had likely suffered from insomnia the previous night and only fell asleep as dawn approached, so she probably wouldn't wake up until the afternoon.
Mito then asked about what had happened between them and why Kushina had been crying.
Ryun stammered for a long time but couldn't give a clear answer.
Fortunately, she didn't press further, which made Ryun sigh in relief.
Since he couldn't see Kushina in the morning, he didn't want to waste time. Under the scorching sun, he resumed his physical training.
Youth should not be wasted.
Before summer vacation, he had asked Might Dai to create a scientifically structured daily training plan for him. If he completed all the tasks, there wouldn't be much free time left.
So sometimes he would use shadow clones to handle minor tasks while his main body focused on completing the daily training.
In all of Konoha, no one worked as hard as he did. Not even among children his age, and even adults couldn't match his dedication.
In his past life, he had worked hard for a better life, but there were countless people who worked even harder. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't achieve significant wealth or status.
Now, reborn in this world, he still retained his hardworking habits. But this time, he wasn't chasing material possessions.
In this world, power was the foundation of survival. He needed to gain enough strength to protect himself as soon as possible. Only then could he use his knowledge of the future to fulfill his ambitions.
At noon, Ryun had a big Chinese-style meal with his mother, Uchiha Asuka. Afterward, he spent an hour writing a segment of the Dragon Ball storyline.
After finishing his daily tasks, he left home, intending to visit the Senju compound again.
However, just as he was nearing his destination, he coincidentally ran into two figures.
"Ryun-kun?"
Orochimaru showed a hint of pleasant surprise on his face.
"Orochimaru... sensei?"
Ryun encountered Orochimaru and Nawaki at the intersection.
"Oh? Why are you here, Ryun-kun?" Orochimaru asked with a smile.
"Ah... I was just passing by..." Ryun scratched his head and replied awkwardly.
"Just passing by? I don't think so." Nawaki crossed his arms and smirked meaningfully.
"Weren't you planning to see Kushina?"
"You took her out for a big meal last night and even made her cry. That was you, right?"
Nawaki directly exposed Ryun's "secret."
Hearing this, Orochimaru's expression turned slightly strange.
Ryun felt extremely embarrassed and didn't know how to explain himself.
"Alright..."
Orochimaru waved his hand to help him out.
"Orochimaru-sensei, where are you two heading?" Ryun quickly changed the subject.
"A small mission outside the village," Orochimaru replied casually.
After saying this, he seemed to think of something and gave Ryun a faint, mysterious smile.
"Ryun-kun, are you free today?"
The question caught Ryun slightly off guard, but after a brief pause, he nodded and said he was always free.
"In that case, would you like to come with us outside the village?"
Orochimaru licked his lips and extended an invitation.
"!!!"
Ryun didn't expect Orochimaru to ask him to leave the village. Based on his earlier words, it seemed he wanted Ryun to participate in the mission.
To be honest, Ryun was very curious about Orochimaru's intentions, but he had planned to see Kushina in the afternoon.
"What? Do you have a date this afternoon?" Orochimaru teased.
"N-no... If Orochimaru-sensei invites me, I'll make time no matter what..." Ryun forced a smile.
He still hoped to learn ninjutsu from Orochimaru in the future. Since the man had extended an invitation, he couldn't refuse.
"Hah... Good!"
Orochimaru was satisfied with his attitude. He found Ryun's way of speaking amusing and very tactful.
"Hmph... Bootlicker..."
Nawaki muttered under his breath.
"..."
Ryun glanced at him briefly but chose not to engage.
Looking back in the direction of the Senju compound, Ryun sighed inwardly:
Fine, let her rest properly for now...
With everyone watching, he couldn't create a shadow clone. He would have to visit Kushina tomorrow instead.
"Teacher, when did you secretly take on another student? Why didn't you tell me?"
Nawaki looked at Orochimaru with a resentful expression.
"Oh? I've been teaching Ryun-kun some things, so it's natural for him to call me Orochimaru-sensei..."
Orochimaru chuckled but didn't clarify their relationship explicitly. However, Nawaki understood the implication.
His teacher hadn't taken on a new disciple. He was still Orochimaru's only student.
"Can you tell me about the mission? Do I need to prepare anything?"
Ryun quickened his pace to keep up with them and asked Orochimaru for details.
"The mission is confidential for now. You don't need to prepare anything. Once we're outside, just observe..."
Orochimaru smiled meaningfully after saying this.
"Uh..."
Suppressing his curiosity, Ryun nodded and stopped asking further questions.
Inside the Senju Compound
After lunch, Kushina was restless, frequently glancing toward the main gate.
Her grandmother Mito had told her during the meal that Ryun had waited for her outside the gate all morning.
At first, the news made Kushina happy, easing much of the frustration from the previous night.
Ryun hadn't forgotten their promise, which meant he still cared about her.
However, she was still angry about what happened last night, so making Ryun wait in vain gave her a sense of satisfaction and triumph.
But as time passed, Kushina's triumph turned into anxiety and unease.
Because Ryun didn't seem to be coming to see her in the afternoon!
"Did... did he get mad at me? Is he upset because I didn't come out in the morning?"
"I... I overslept..."
Kushina hid in a corner not far from the gate, her heart filled with turmoil. Gone were the joy and pride from earlier.
Now that Ryun wasn't coming, she was truly panicking.
"Jerk! He said I was someone precious to him! What a liar!"
"He even told Grandma Mito he'd come see me in the afternoon! Full of lies!"
"No... He usually keeps his promises. Maybe something came up..."
"That's why he couldn't come!"
For the entire afternoon, she was trapped in her own thoughts, torn between remembering his good and bad sides. Her mind was completely occupied by thoughts of that boy.
Unknowingly, Ryun had already taken root in her heart. Kushina's emotions were now entirely tied to his words and actions.
In truth, both of them were in similar situations. The only difference was that one knew how to distract himself, while the other, still immature, couldn't help but overthink without guidance, sinking deeper into negativity.
