Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Zabuza the Demon? So scary~
As Team 7 was walking, Kakashi suddenly sensed killing intent.
He turned his head—only to see a giant blade flying toward them!
"Everyone get down!"
Sasuke reacted instantly and dropped to the ground.
Sakura and Tazuna, however, froze and even turned around to see what the strange noise was.
They didn't realize that turning their heads could've cost them their lives!
At that life-or-death moment, a golden flash suddenly appeared in front of them, and Naruto caught the giant blade with one hand!
His body, enhanced fourfold, gave him physical strength on par with a Jonin—maybe even stronger!
"This blade… not bad."
Naruto looked it over, then suddenly swung it back toward where it had come from, sending a three-meter-long slash through the air!
"What?!"
Zabuza's eyes widened, pupils shrinking.
He was already surprised that a brat like Naruto could catch his blade at all.
Right now, this brat could casually swing and unleash a slash that was no weaker than a B-rank jutsu—it just didn't make any sense to him.
Judging by his age, the kid had probably just graduated from the ninja academy… Are Konoha's current geniuses really this scary?
Zabuza, who had narrowly dodged Naruto's slash, stared at him with a hint of fear in his eyes.
This guy's talent… is even more terrifying than Haku's!
"What a pity."
Seeing his slash miss Zabuza, Naruto mumbled with some regret.
Even though his sword skills were maxed out, the power of his slashes wasn't just about technique.
His physical strength and Armament Haki also played a big part in how fast and strong his slashes were!
"Naruto, what was that move just now?" Kakashi asked with some surprise.
The slash had a bluish-white color, completely different from the golden jutsu Naruto usually used.
"Just a normal slash."
Naruto answered flatly, clearly not wanting to explain more.
"Sasuke."
"Yeah?"
"Do you want this sword or not?"
Naruto shook the giant blade in his hand as he asked.
"This sword… for me?" Sasuke looked confused. "But I don't know how to use swords."
"If you don't know, then just practice."
Naruto said as he tossed the sword over to Sasuke.
Sasuke instinctively caught it, but his body sank under its weight.
It's heavy!
A sword this heavy—and Naruto just held it with one hand?
Sasuke felt like the gap between him and Naruto was getting bigger and bigger.
"If you're giving me this sword, what will you use?" Sasuke asked.
Naruto formed a grip with both hands, and a glowing sword appeared in them.
"Don't worry. I've got something even cooler."
"..."
At first, Sasuke thought the executioner's blade looked awesome, but the moment he saw Naruto's sword, it instantly lost its charm.
Naruto spun the sword and put the Kusanagi back, then suddenly noticed Kakashi was gone.
"Where's Kakashi?" Naruto asked.
"Kakashi-sensei went after that enemy just now!" Sakura replied.
"I'll go help him. You two stay here and protect the old man." With that, Naruto turned into a flash of gold and disappeared, heading in the direction Zabuza had fled.
If Kakashi ends up fighting Zabuza one-on-one, he might end up totally worn out again.
And Naruto really didn't want to keep doing missions with an injured guy.
...
At that moment, Kakashi had just caught up with Zabuza, and the two were facing off.
"Well well… Isn't this the runaway from the Hidden Mist, Momochi Zabuza? Leaving already?" Kakashi said in a relaxed tone.
"Copy Ninja Kakashi, get out of my way!" Zabuza replied coldly.
"Sorry, I can't do that. If we let you leave now, and you come back for a surprise attack later, we'll be in a bad spot."
Kakashi looked like he was troubled, then reached for the headband covering his left eye. "To avoid trouble later on, I'll have to keep you here."
"Hmph, keep me here? You think you can stop me if I'm really set on leaving?" Zabuza sneered, a trace of contempt in his eyes as he looked at Kakashi.
Zabuza was a genius who fought his way out of piles of dead bodies since he was a kid, so Kakashi's reputation didn't scare him at all.
Copy Ninja? Sharingan? Able to copy a thousand jutsu? In the end, once you're dead, you're just a corpse.
The only reason he chose to retreat was because of Naruto.
That blond brat was clearly stronger than a regular jonin. If he had to fight two jonin at once, he'd need to rethink his entire plan.
At the very least, he needed to find a chance to get his sword back. After that, he could take down Team 7 one by one.
But Kakashi had already figured out what Zabuza was thinking, so he wasn't about to give him that chance.
Just as the tension between them hit its peak and a fight was about to break out, a golden flash appeared behind Zabuza.
Such crazy speed!
Zabuza quickly glanced behind and saw Naruto, his eyes full of caution and shock.
That golden light… what kind of jutsu was that?
Zabuza couldn't get a good read on Naruto's strength.
He had snatched his massive blade with just one hand, then followed up with a B-rank jutsu like it was nothing—and that speed was unreal!
Are genin these days really this overpowered?
He looked ahead at Hatake Kakashi, the Konoha jonin blocking his path. The idea of retreating became even clearer in Zabuza's mind.
But in this situation, escaping without getting hurt wouldn't be easy.
"Naruto, you shouldn't have followed me," Kakashi said, his hand still on his forehead protector, not fully lifting it.
After all, using his Sharingan would burn through his chakra fast.
Every second he could save mattered.
"I was afraid you couldn't beat him alone," Naruto said calmly.
"But…"
"Hmph!"
Before Kakashi could say anything else, Zabuza suddenly snorted coldly and charged toward Naruto.
"Out of my way, kid!"
He threw several kunai at Naruto and appeared right in front of him in a flash.
His plan was to use the kunai to force Naruto back—or at least create an opening for another attack.
It was a pretty standard move that most ninjas were good at.
But Naruto did something Zabuza never expected.
Actually, he didn't do anything at all.
He just stood there and let the kunai pierce straight through his body.
"What?!!"
The bizarre scene made Zabuza stop immediately, eyes scanning Naruto with full alert.
No injuries? How's that possible?
He glanced at the two kunai stuck in a tree behind Naruto, his face clouded with doubt.
He didn't believe he missed. Throwing kunai was a basic ninja skill—he was confident in his aim.
Then why didn't they hit?
'No… something's off.
I clearly saw the kunai pass through that brat's body. So I didn't miss—he must have some weird ability that lets him avoid the attack!'
"Kakashi, I'm starting to think the two of us ganging up on him is kind of unfair,"
Naruto suddenly stepped past Zabuza and said to Kakashi behind him, "He seems kinda weak."
To Naruto, Zabuza's taijutsu and overall skill didn't seem that impressive.
In terms of hand-to-hand combat, he felt Zabuza was a bit below Kakashi.
As for ninjutsu… neither the Silent Killing technique through mist nor the Water Style attacks posed any real threat to Naruto.
"Picking on him?"
Kakashi was briefly stunned, then said seriously, "Naruto, that guy is Zabuza Momochi from the Hidden Mist! Don't take him lightly!"
Even though Naruto had just shown some serious power, Kakashi still didn't think he could handle Zabuza so easily.
This was a guy who, back when he wasn't even a ninja, killed over a hundred graduates by himself during their final exam!
To be that ruthless at such a young age, with that kind of terrifying strength—and on top of that, he's one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and used to wield the Executioner's Blade...
Even if he's lost his sword now, you still can't underestimate him!
"Zabuza Momochi? He sounds scary~"
