Chapter 10: Teaching a prodigy
It had been a few months since Byakuya came back to the Village. During this time, he took a few missions instead of going back to the frontline. Of course after he had asked permission. He instead focused on his mastery over the Jutsus he received.
The reason he could do this was mostly because the war hadn't been too much to handle as of now. It was currently one year after the war had started. The bloodshed had quickly started becoming less in the frontlines after the first few months.
'Hmm... I need to accept a low ranked mission and restrict myself to only using Ninjutsu...' Byakuya walked through the streets of Konoha, thinking about his progress before he sidestepped suddenly.
*Bam.*
Glancing down, Byakuya looked at the boy that fell face first onto the ground. 'Uchiha...' He mulled, looking at the fan on the boy's back.
"Owww..." a Groan escaped the fallen boy before he picked himself up and pat the dirt off his clothes. The boy looked up towards Byakuya, a frown gracing his features. "Mister, I'm pretty sure you could've caught me." The boy spoke, his childish voice lined with confusion.
Raising an eyebrow at the boy, Byakuya carefully inspected the boy's face. 'Do I know him..?' He thought, feeling a sense of familiarity with the boy's looks. "I could've." Byakuya nodded.
Listening to Byakuya's words, the Uchiha boy could do nothing but deepen his frown. "Whatever..." He muttered. "I'm Uchiha Shisui." He introduced himself.
'Uchiha Shisui...' Byakuya copied in his head. 'I remember now. a Stupid boy who tried to be a hero...' He thought, slowly remembering the boy's fate as a tool to unlock Itachi's Mangekyo after he failed. 'He looked to be only five right now.'
"Kuchiki Byakuya." He introduced himself in kind, nodding at the boy, only to see the boy's eyes widen at his name.
"Byakuya as in Hazakura Byakuya?" Shisui asked, his eyes shining.
Byakuya nodded, inwardly lamenting over the shitty nickname. "That would be me." He confirmed.
Shisui looked over Byakuya's figure that stood taller then him. 'He's not even that much older than me... I think he'd be around eight right now.' Shaking the thoughts away, Shisui spoke once more. "It's rumored that you have created your own version of Shunshin no Jutsu and have mastered it to a great degree."
Byakuya's shook his head, the image of a dark skinned woman appearing within his mind. "I have not mastered it. Not even close. Why?" He asked, expecting the boy to ask about his skills, but wondered why the boy would bring this up instead of his flashy Kekkei Genkai.
Chuckling awkwardly, Shisui rubbed the back of his neck. "You see, I've always found Shunshin no Jutsu to be amazing. Being able to move faster than the eye can see..." As he spoke, his voice became softer as if he drifted into fantasy.
Suddenly Shisui broke out in a grin. "Could you please demonstrate it to me?"
Byakuya shrugged, glancing around. "I don't see why not." He said before leading the boy away. "Let's go to a training ground."
Not long after, the two of them stood in a clearing in the forest.
"Alright. Watch closely." Byakuya spoke before his figure blurred.
Shisui's eyes widened.
"What are you looking at?"
Byakuya's calm voice came from behind Shisui, startling the boy. "What..?" Shisui turned around and spoke up. "You didn't even move any body part though?"
Byakuya smiled. "This is called Shunpo. a Form of Hoho. And I am not even close to mastering it." He explained, appearing a few meters away. "The more skilled you are, the less amount of steps it takes to go from point A to point B." He said. "It's basically fast skipping with your Chakra."
Shinsui nodded, listening attentively.
'Should I...' Byakuya looked at the serious boy. 'I did like his character... Maybe if I teach him this while he's growing, he might be faster than his counterpart in the future...'
Nodding at his thoughts, Byakuya gestured for Shisui to come closer, which the boy did.
"Do you want to learn this technique?" Byakuya asked, skipping over the pleasantries and got straight to it.
Stunned, Shisui looked at Byakuya in a new light. No Shinobi in his right mind would teach a random child their own set of techniques. Much less a Konoha Shinobi teach an Uchiha kid.
Yes. Shisui had already started observing the rift between his family and the Village. But being a child, he could do nothing more than spectate the events.
"Don't think too much about it." Byakuya's voice snapped Shisui out of his thoughts, having already deduced the boy's thoughts. 'Wasn't that hard... He wears his heart on his sleeve.' He mused.
After a few long seconds, Shisui nodded. "Please teach me." He spoke, resolute.
"Alright." Byakuya nodded, a smile gracing his lips. "Then we will start with your footwork."
In truth, Byakuya didn't know if Shisui could learn Shunpo. Although Byakuya saw all the techniques he used so far had been translated into using Chakra, he still felt it different.
---
"Hokage-Sama!" an Anbu ninja kneeled in front of Hiruzen. "Kuchiki Byakuya has been spotted training an Uchiha boy." He spoke.
"What?" Hiruzen spoke quickly, putting his pipe on the desk.
*Bang.*
The door to the Hokage's office swings open, revealing the figure of Danzo, who glared at the Anbu before looking at Hiruzen.
"What is the meaning of the Hiruzen?" Danzo's gruff voice cut through the air.
Sighing, Hiruzen looked at his old friend. "What do you mean?" He asked.
Narrowing his eyes, Danzo walked forward. "Your stray puppy is helping the Uchiha!" Danzo slammed his fist against the desk. "This is your last chance to make it right Hiruzen. Give the boy over to Root."
"I am the Hokage, Danzo!" Hiruzen slammed his fist as well. "Not you." His last words spoken softer as if stating a fact that will always be true.
Gritting his teeth, Danzo huffed. "You will regret this." He spoke, turning around and exiting the office.
Turning to the Anbu, Hiruzen spoke. "Keep an eye on what Byakuya does regarding the Uchiha. Notify me of any new happenings." He ordered and with a nod, the Anbu disappeared.
Sighing, Danzo turned around and looked at the sunset while taking a pull from his pipe. 'What are you doing, Byakuya?'
---
*Bang! Creak...*
Byakuya sighed, watching on as Shisui crashed against another tree. 'This won't do...' He thought. It had been a month since he started teaching Shisui Shunpo and the little Uchiha couldn't even use it through luck.
"Let's stop here." Byakuya called out, seeing that Shisui prepared to try again.
Shisui turned to face Byakuya, a defeated look across his face. "Byakuya-San..." He called out softly before nodding.
Byakuya waved his hand. "Don't think of it too much. I created this technique for my imbalanced Chakra. I thought you could learn it due to your Kekkei Genkai's Chakra nature." He explained, thinking about the dominant Yin-Chakra within Uchihas.
Byakuya had done some research on his Chakra during this month, wanting to know why it felt so different than others. And he came to a conclusion.
Either it was due to him being an aged soul or the fact that he's technically a Shinigami, but what he figured was that his Spiritual half of his Chakra was more abundant than his Physical.
So he thought that anyone with a higher Yin affinity had the ability to practice and make use of Shinigami styles.
"But it seems not..." He muttered and turned to Shisui. "Don't give up hope." He spoke, patting the boy's shoulder. 'His mentality must've taken a hit...' He thought, looking at the sad boy. "Here."
His voice broke Shisui from his thoughts. Looking up, Shisui reacted quickly and caught the scroll Byakuya had thrown towards him. Glancing at the scroll in his hands, Shisui looked up in confusion.
"This is the Shunshin jutsu you wanted." Byakuya revealed, a small smile tugging his lips as Shisui quickly reacted.
"What?" Shisui asked, grinning. "No way! Thank you Byakuya-San!" He spoke loudly before bowing.
Suddenly a thought struck the boy and he looked up at Byakuya again.
"Are you sure I can learn this..?" Shisui asked, his grin fading as he thought about his recent blunders with Shunpo. a Technique Byakuya had described as something akin to Shunshin.
Byakuya scoffed. 'Learn it? Kid, you'll bring it to new heights...' He thought but nodded calmly at the boy's words. "Yes. a Custom Technique would of course be harder to learn than a normal Jutsu." He said and gestured to Shisui.
"Now then. Open it." He spoke, smiling. "We have to at least have you learn something for the time wasted."
