It seems that Tsunade still has a long way to go before overcoming her hemophobia.
Kazuki couldn't help but find the situation amusing.
"How's the situation inside the prison?"
"Not good."
As her attention shifted, Tsunade gradually relaxed, though the topic dampened her mood.
"To hold off the Third Hokage, Danzo intentionally worked with his summoned beast to destroy the passageways connecting the inner and outer sections of the prison. Many cells on both sides collapsed, burying and killing numerous inmates."
"..."
Classic Danzo—he would go to such extreme lengths just to delay the Third Hokage and his pursuers.
This was entirely in line with Danzo's style. He never hesitated to achieve his goals, no matter the cost.
"Fortunately, the situation is now under control. Some opportunistic inmates tried to escape during the chaos but were stopped and subsequently detained. However, rebuilding the prison will require significant time and resources."
Another headache—what now?
Money! This would cost so much money!
Already strapped for cash, the village was further strained by Danzo's antics.
It seems Tsunade had no choice but to request funding from the daimyo.
Previously hesitant, this incident removed any doubt from her mind. Swallowing her pride to ask for money from the daimyo was better than leaving the village in financial distress.
"Is there anything else for me to handle?"
Danzo's fate was sealed, and Kazuki was ready for a well-deserved break. All he wanted now was to go home and lie down.
"You can—oh, never mind."
Tsunade waved her hand dismissively, her tone disdainful.
"Just go rest. You're better off avoiding any awkward standoffs with the old man. As for your clan members, they'll stay here until the prison situation stabilizes."
The prison needed all the manpower it could get, so while Kazuki could leave, the clan members he brought in had to remain for security duties until reconstruction was complete.
"Fine."
Kazuki didn't hesitate and made his exit.
As for the arrangements for Jiro and the others, he left that to Tsunade. After all, guarding the prison for a while wasn't a big deal.
With the internal strife within his clan still unresolved, having them stationed at the prison seemed like a good option.
---
"Tsunade, are you saying Danzo won't wake up?"
The Third Hokage was stunned when he finally finished addressing the prison crisis, only to receive such grim news.
Although Danzo hadn't died, the Third Hokage would have preferred his corpse over seeing him reduced to this state.
As a vegetative state might still allow for recovery, Danzo's condition was even worse.
"More or less," Tsunade sighed.
"I examined him. His situation is complicated, and with our current medical techniques, recovery is nearly impossible. Old man, this might actually be the best outcome. However, you'll probably have to take care of Danzo for the rest of his life."
True to her word, Tsunade left the responsibility to the Third Hokage. She wasn't concerned whether watching over Danzo would torment him.
Alive, but worse than dead.
The Third Hokage couldn't imagine how he would face Danzo, now a lifeless shell, every single day.
'Why didn't you just kill him?!'
The Third Hokage wanted to yell at Kazuki.
Since it had come to this, why not finish Danzo off entirely?
He was sure Kazuki did this on purpose.
---
Back in the village, Kazuki headed straight to the police department and entered the office of the head, Fugaku.
"Why are you back so soon?"
"It's mostly taken care of. Danzo will be bedridden for the rest of his life, leaving it up to the Hokage to decide whether to hand him over to the Third for care."
Kazuki summarized the events succinctly. Fugaku remained silent after hearing the details.
'You're even crueler than I am! Simply killing someone would have been merciful, but you left Danzo alive just to torment the Third Hokage, forcing him to live in guilt for the rest of his life!'
Still, Fugaku couldn't help but find it amusing.
"Hahaha..."
He burst into laughter, pounding the table.
What sweet vengeance!
Danzo had finally gotten what he deserved, and the karmic retribution would follow him for the rest of his life.
Though the Third Hokage hadn't yet paid the price, Kazuki's act of leaving Danzo in his care would surely be a thorn in his side.
Kazuki's approach was deliberate—punishing Danzo while indirectly targeting the Third Hokage as well.
Knowing that the Third couldn't let go of his bond with Danzo, Kazuki purposefully left him in such a state.
Killing Danzo? That would've been too easy. Leaving him half-dead and tossing him to the Third Hokage was far more satisfying.
Each day, the Third would have to see Danzo, haunted by memories and regret.
When the time came, Kazuki could deal with both of them at once.
After laughing for a while, Fugaku finally calmed down.
"The clan has stabilized. Don't worry about anything. If anyone takes the blame, it'll be me. Go home and rest."
"Alright."
Exhausted from everything, Kazuki didn't argue and left for home.
After a refreshing bath, he collapsed into bed and slept soundly.
---
At Konoha Hospital, Jiraiya sighed for what felt like the hundredth time.
First Orochimaru, now Danzo.
Orochimaru's situation wasn't as tragic as Danzo's, whose plight was downright miserable.
A vegetative state might offer some hope of recovery, but for Danzo, that hope was practically nonexistent.
Two adjoining hospital rooms now housed two bedridden men.
Jiraiya watched over Orochimaru, while the Third Hokage stayed by Danzo's side.
If the Third hadn't explained it himself, Jiraiya wouldn't have believed all that had happened in the prison.
Danzo had caused himself so much harm in his attempt to escape, nearly destroying the entire prison.
'Does someone like that even deserve to live?'
Jiraiya thought to himself.
Then it dawned on him—perhaps leaving Danzo alive in such a state was the ultimate punishment, especially since it also burdened the Third Hokage.
Glancing at the Third Hokage, who sat nearby, visibly distraught and defeated, Jiraiya realized how much this would weigh on him.
Kazuki's plan had succeeded.
Danzo wasn't the only one who had targeted the Uchiha. The Third Hokage and the two elder advisors were equally culpable.
Jiraiya shuddered at the thought.
'Could it be that Kazuki intends to take revenge on them all, one by one?'
