Naruto: Rise of Otogakure

Chapter 6: Training (1)

[You have earned 100 Reputation with Patriarch Kenji Kinzoku. Your relation with him is now "Good"]

[You have earned 150 Reputation with Elder Nakamaro. Your relation with him is now "Good"]

[You have earned 50 Reputation with Chunin Okura. Your relation with him is now "Good"]

Seeing the reputation gains, Genji smiled. Although he did not want to expose his strength at first, the revelation about other players existing made it clear that he needed to become stronger faster. Furthermore, the key of survival resided in having trump cards. Revealing his proficiency in genjutsu still left him with two hidden assets: ninjutsu and bloodline release.

"You were amazing, Genji!", Sakura celebrated, "We will be in the same team, but that also means that you have to train hard to become ready, alright?"

Sometimes, Sakura would forget that her brother was only 6. However, Genji did not mind that treatment. Instead, he welcomed it. The patriarch's words basically acknowledged Genji as a genin, provided that he met the requirements in the coming month.

"Tomorrow, I will introduce you to the others. They must have gotten the word by now"

The next day, Sakura introduced him to his future teammates.

Unlike the classic formations that would come in the future, the Kinzoku clan operated in squads of four or five members.

Besides Sakura, there were two boys her age, roughly 14 of age. One with glasses and a kenjutsu specialist like Sakura, Eiji, and a ninjutsu specialist, Taki. The leader of the squad was a 20-years-old chunin, the patriarch's niece and none other than Okura's sister: Yumi.

"You are so young...What did the patriarch have in mind?", Eiji spoke, only to be glared at by Yumi

Yumi glanced at Genji and nodded: "I have not properly introduced myself. I am Yumi Kinzoku, from the main family branch. My father is Elder Nakamoro, and I my strength lies in ninjutsu. I also possess the clan's bloodline release. But I am curious, why do you want to be a shinobi at such a young age?"

Sakura laughed, uneasy about her brother being questioned by their captain: "That's hardly knowing Genji! He has been playing with shurikens for as long as I can remember. It's only natu-"

"Sakura, please. I want to hear his answer", Yumi said cold-heartedly

Genji glanced at Yumi. She was looking straight into his eyes, searching for answers.

[Yumi Kinzoku - Level 30 Shinobi

Relations: Good

Heiress of the Kinzoku main family line, Yumi is known for her strength and cold behaviour. She puts the clan's rules above everything else]

There was no reason to lie.

"I want to become strong", he spoke, "Strong enough to survive in this world"

Yumi's gaze became gentler. She was aware of their parent's crippled status. It was only natural for a child to feel that way.

"Sorry, I was out of my line", she spoke, "We will not stop taking missions because of you entering our ranks, but as you are now, you are not fit to be a shinobi. During our rest periods, we will take turns and teach you the basic skills. With your talent, you should be decent enough in one month. If not, I will be forced as per the rules to refuse the patriarch's offer"

Genji felt a bit attacked, but at the same time, it was true. He had no experience about what a shinobi meant. Surely, he had mastered some ninjutsu, was proficient at genjutsu, and knew a bit of taijutsu. However, he knew nothing about wilderness survival, spying techniques, shuriken jutsu, detecting lies...

Most of the missions in peaceful times were related to spying and accumulating missions, rather than shinobi skirmishes after all. And these skills were of utmost importance in these situations.

"Thank you, I appreciate it. When do we start", Genji asked

Even Sakura felt a bit angry about Yumi's tone. However, everyone nodded upon hearing Genji's humble attitude. His eyes were as calm as a river. He wanted to learn. He wanted to become stronger. At least this was clear about him.
