Naruto: Reborn with the Template System

"Kurenai! Please… beg Lord Hokage to assign me a different Jōnin! I can't take this anymore—it's pure torture!"

Under the warm hues of a setting sun at the village training grounds, Anko threw herself dramatically into Kurenai's arms, wailing like a child who had dropped her favorite toy.

Yuhi Kurenai, who had only recently begun to show signs of maturing into a beautiful woman, gave Guts a strange look.

Knowing Anko's bold personality, she could imagine what kind of training would drive her to cry like this.

Over the past month, after Guts's brutal training sessions, either Kurenai or Shizune would show up in the evenings to use medical ninjutsu to soothe their aching muscles.

While Kurenai wasn't as skilled as Shizune—who had studied directly under Tsunade—she had picked up enough to relieve basic fatigue.

But Anko? Every time Kurenai arrived, she would dive straight into her arms, sobbing and pointing fingers at Guts like he was the devil himself.

"Whhhaaaaahhh! It hurts so much!"

Shisui, meanwhile, sat nearby holding a roasted pig knuckle, snoring lightly as he dozed off mid-bite.

"Oi! Stop crying! Nothing's more annoying than a whining woman!"

Guts scowled, grabbing Anko by the collar and yanking her away from Kurenai.

The loud voice startled Shisui awake. He blinked, looked around in confusion, and scratched the back of his head.

"Ah… s-sorry! Guess I dozed off while eating again. Heh…"

Kurenai's eye twitched as she glanced at him. Was this really the so-called genius of the Uchiha clan?

It felt like… he was slowly turning into a mini-Guts.

She wondered, if the rest of the Uchiha clan saw Shisui like this, would they come looking to beat Guts up?

But what Kurenai didn't know was that Shisui was the descendant of Uchiha Kagami, the loyal student of the Second Hokage.

Because Kagami had always supported the Hokage, a large part of the Uchiha clan resented him—and by extension, ignored Shisui's existence entirely.

Back in the training grounds, Guts crossed his arms and looked at the two exhausted Genin.

"You two better be ready for the Chūnin Exams next month. Don't embarrass me. I've invested a lot of effort in you."

"Hah?! More like you've spent most of our training sessions napping under a tree!"

Anko shot back angrily.

"Every time we were running laps around Konoha, there you were—snoozing in the shade!"

She had honestly wanted to charge at him and beat him up more than once.

But what she didn't know… was that Guts wasn't sleeping. Not really.

He was actually in the virtual space of his system, training in ways she couldn't even imagine.

Still, it was rare for Genin fresh out of the academy to take the Chūnin Exams. In recent years, Guts's class had been the only exception.

Despite all the complaints, Anko never actually followed through on her threats to request a reassignment from Hokage Hiruzen.

In fact, over time, she had simply gotten used to it.

The next month passed more smoothly. Though the training remained tough, both Shisui and Anko began to adapt.

What once felt like endless torment began to feel routine.

Finally, after two grueling months, the day before the Chūnin Exams arrived.

Standing before his two students, Guts observed them silently.

Shisui's frame had begun to show hints of muscle, lean but powerful. Anko, though still slender, now had a hidden strength in her arms.

To avoid ruining her figure, Guts had even asked Shizune to focus on speeding up her muscle recovery—preventing excessive muscle growth.

While that meant slightly less strength gain, it ensured she didn't end up overly bulky.

Guts didn't want to see her become that future version of Anko—sloppy and overweight—but he also didn't want a muscle-bound flat monster like Haruno Sakura.

Women covered in bulging veins and tendons… that wasn't his thing.

"Alright then, let's go, kids!"

Anko rolled her eyes.

"Tch, I'm only three years younger than you. Stop calling me a kid."

They made their way to the Chūnin Exam venue.

Guts didn't recognize many of the newer participants this year.

But one familiar face quickly caught his attention—Might Guy, who had already made Chūnin and was tagging along with Ebisu and Shiranui Genma.

Upon seeing Guts, Ebisu immediately tried to hide behind Might Guy, visibly trembling.

When word spread that Guts had brought his students to the exams, shock rippled through the other participants.

Soon, they ran into Asuma, Kotetsu, and Izumo—other familiar faces also taking the exams.

They were equally surprised when they learned that Uchiha Shisui and Mitarashi Anko were his students.

The first stage—a written test—was passed without any real difficulty.

The second stage in the Forest of Death was more of a hassle, especially the battle for the Heaven and Earth scrolls.

But ultimately, for Shisui and Anko, it was still manageable.

Guts, now standing in the Central Tower once again—not as a participant but as a Jōnin instructor—found himself feeling oddly nostalgic.

What he didn't expect, however, was to run into a familiar group:

The Minato team.

Namikaze Minato. Hatake Kakashi. Uchiha Obito. Nohara Rin.

All three of Minato's students had already become Chūnin.

"Guts! Long time no see!"

Obito and Rin waved cheerfully as they approached.

Kakashi, true to form, looked away with a snort.

"What are you doing here?"

Guts raised a brow and stepped up to the observation deck where they stood.

Minato smiled and answered for him,

"We're off today, so when we heard your students were taking the exams, Obito suggested we come watch."

Guts glanced over at Kakashi.

"Oh? Didn't think Mister Cool was the type to tag along."

Kakashi immediately snapped

"It was Obito who dragged me here!"

"Liar! You were the one who said you wanted to come!"

And like clockwork, the daily love and hate relationship between Kakashi and Obito resumed.
