Naruto: Reborn With An AI Chip

Chapter 38: B-Rank Mission

That morning, Renjiro did something outside of his usual routine—he slept in.

It was already mid-morning when he finally dragged himself out of bed. Even for a shinobi, training required a balance between work and rest.

Seeing how well his team had progressed lately—and with a few errands to run—Renjiro had given the entire squad, including himself, a well-deserved day off.

After freshening up, he left home and grabbed a big brunch at a nearby restaurant. Once he'd filled his stomach, he walked over to the blacksmith's shop.

"Ah, there you are!" The blacksmith said with a proud grin: "Just finished forging what you asked for. Four full sets of weighted training gear—100 kg, 50 kg, 40 kg, and 30 kg. Go ahead, check them out. Let me know if you want to add anything else."

Originally, Renjiro had only ordered one set for himself. But as training got more intense, he had ordered custom sets for Meri, Maemon, and Tsugami too.

Renjiro ignored the blacksmith's smug tone and began checking the gear. Each set included wristbands, ankle weights, and a belt. The quality was solid—nothing flashy, but it matched all his requirements.

"Thank you, you've done a very good job." Renjiro said, satisfied with the gear. He paid on the spot—of course, the cost for the other three sets had already been covered by Meri and the other two.

"Oh, by the way, you still remember where my house is, right?" Renjiro asked as he set the gear down.

"Yes, I remember." The blacksmith replied with a slow nod.

"Can you please deliver them there—or ask someone to deliver them?" Renjiro said, scratching the back of his head. He didn't want to carry all four sets by himself—it would be way too heavy and almost impossible to manage alone.

"Yes, don't worry. Leave that to me." The blacksmith said calmly.

With that errand done, Renjiro walked next door into a tailor's shop.

The seamstress was an older woman with sharp eyes and quick hands. She was stitching something at the counter when he walked in.

"Ma'am, is my custom order ready?" Renjiro asked.

The woman looked up, recognized him, and gave a gentle smile: "Of course! Let me go get it."

She came back moments later with a neatly folded outfit and placed it on the counter for him to inspect.

Renjiro didn't wait—he immediately looked it over. This outfit was his own design.

—Pirate-style boots with multi-layered straps that could be used in different ways.

—Slim, tapered pants that allowed full movement without getting in the way.

—A flexible utility belt, able to hold a longblade, carry pouches, and fit together perfectly with his weighted belt.

—A tight-fitting, breathable black shirt—sleek and practical.

Using his own imagination—and with a bit of help from Arkain—Renjiro had managed to create a shinobi uniform that was useful, stealthy, and definitely stylish.

The tailoring was impressive. The final product looked even better than he had imagined. So, he happily paid and even ordered two more sets. Then, carrying the first finished set, he left the shop.

"Hmm?"

He had barely walked a few steps when a flash of green caught his eye—a man in a full-body jumpsuit with a watermelon-shaped haircut.

"What a view…" Renjiro almost closed his eyes without thinking.

That wasn't just anyone. The young shinobi in front of him was Might Guy—Konoha's Sublime Green Beast of Prey.

Since arriving in this world, Renjiro could count the number of famous characters he'd seen with his own eyes on two hands. That list included some incredible figures like Orochimaru, Shisui, and Hiruzen…

Of course, Renjiro was hoping to meet other famous characters like Minato, Kakashi, and even Jiraiya and Tsunade. But now, of all people, he had randomly come across Guy?

"He's still training… as expected of someone who fought Madara in Six Paths Mode using only Taijutsu…" Renjiro thought with a sigh.

Guy was one of his favorite characters in the anime. Even though he had no talent in Ninjutsu, he never gave up. Instead, he trained even harder—and in the end, he became the strongest Taijutsu user in Konoha through pure effort.

Renjiro really wanted to speak to him, but unfortunately, Guy didn't know him. There wasn't much he could say without making things awkward.

"There'll be more chances in the future…" Renjiro shook his head, turned away, and began walking toward the training fields.

Chrrr!

As he moved forward, a small bird swooped down and landed on his shoulder.

This bird was no ordinary animal—it was a trained ninja messenger bird.

"It's got the Hokage's seal…" Renjiro noted as he took the small rolled paper tied to the bird's leg. His expression sharpened. It was a direct summon from the Hokage.

"The Hokage wants to see me…" Renjiro was very curious why Hiruzen wanted to meet him, but he couldn't think of a clear reason.

---

Without wasting time, he rushed home at once, changed into his new outfit—which, being tailor-made, fit perfectly—then layered on his standard shinobi vest, secured his ninja pouches, strapped his blade across his lower back, and tied his forehead protector carefully.

Standing in front of the mirror, Renjiro looked at his reflection and nodded with satisfaction: "Damn… you look very handsome."

Then his eyes landed on the green flak vest.

"Ugh! If only it came in black." He muttered bitterly: "This ruins everything."

He shook off his vanity and dashed straight toward the Hokage Residence.

---

Upon arrival, the Anbu guards let him pass without a word—clearly already informed of his summons. No delays. He went straight into the Hokage's office.

Knock! Knock!

Renjiro knocked on the Hokage's office door.

"Enter." Came Hiruzen's voice.

Renjiro opened the door and stepped inside.

To his relief, he wasn't late. Inside the room were only Hiruzen himself and two of his teammates—Tsugami and Domaru. Renjiro gave them a small nod before standing quietly in place, waiting for Meri and Maemon.

They didn't take long. Moments later, both arrived in quick succession.

"Ahem!"

Hiruzen cleared his throat once, then looked at Team Renjiro and said in a serious voice: "Team Renjiro, I have a B-rank mission for you."

The air in the room instantly grew a little heavier.

B-Rank Mission!

This wasn't a patrol, a delivery, or some simple village errand. A B-rank meant serious threats, real combat danger, and could even involve deadly life-or-death battles.

As captain, Renjiro stepped forward and asked calmly: "Hokage-sama, what kind of mission are we talking about?"

Sarutobi took a long drag from his pipe. After blowing out the smoke, he replied: "The request comes from the Genki Clan—a noble house located near the border between the Land of Fire and the Land of Whirlpools."

Everyone in the room stiffened. They all knew that region was unstable.

Ever since the destruction of Uzushiogakure—led by the Hidden Mist during the Second Great Ninja War—the entire area had fallen into lawless chaos.

"The Genki Clan." Hiruzen continued: "Has recently been targeted by unknown parties. Their vassal villages are being harassed. Their merchant caravans—crucial to the clan's finances—have been attacked again and again. The last attack... ended with a total loss of all their guards. Not a single survivor."

His eyes darkened behind the rising smoke as he added: "They have asked for help on two fronts. One: uncover who's behind the attacks. Two: eliminate the threat."

Renjiro's eyebrows drew closer. This wasn't a possible combat mission. Blood had already been spilled—fighting was guaranteed.

"I know your team was just re-established, and I originally wanted to assign this to a more experienced unit." Hiruzen said with a helpless tone: "But our current manpower is stretched too thin. Among the available squads, yours is the most well-rounded and capable."

The role of a flexible-response unit... Renjiro remembered how his team had been structured. This kind of mission—part intelligence, part combat, full adaptability—was exactly what his squad was meant for.

"I understand." Renjiro said firmly: "When do we deploy?"

As shinobi, they didn't have the right to refuse. Even if this sounded like a nightmare mission, Renjiro accepted it without hesitation.

Hiruzen nodded in approval and answered: "Immediately."

Renjiro stepped forward and accepted the mission scroll: "Understood. We won't let you down Hokage-sama."

Outside the Hokage Residence, he turned to the others.

"You have thirty minutes. Get everything ready—gear, supplies, weapons. We meet at the village gate."

"Yes, Captain!" They all answered together.

Renjiro gave a sharp nod and said: "Then move!"

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Three shinobi and one large ninja dog vanished.

Renjiro followed a moment later, disappearing into the breeze.

---

Thirty minutes later.

Team Renjiro gathered at the village gate—right on time. Dressed in full combat gear, every member gave themselves one final check as Renjiro instructed.

Once everything was confirmed to be ready, Renjiro gave the signal: "Let's move out!"

As the squad set off, their mission had officially begun.

---

Since the client had emphasized urgency, they didn't waste time. They kept a fast pace, traveling hard through the night, and by noon the next day, they crossed into the territory of the Genki Clan.

"Woof! Woof!"

As the four shinobi and one ninja dog dashed through the forest trail, Domaru suddenly barked furiously.

"Alert!" Renjiro shouted immediately, his hand snapping up in a silent signal. He turned his head sharply: "Tsugami?"

Tsugami nodded and crouched down quietly, placing his hand on Domaru's neck, letting the dog sniff the wind again.

A moment later, Tsugami's face grew serious: "Domaru smells blood—human blood."

Renjiro's expression hardened. He paused, then gave a quiet command: "Stay sharp. Watch for anything unusual. This might get ugly."

"Yes, Captain!" The squad responded, already switching into full alert combat mode.

Renjiro gave a nod, then said in a low voice: "Let's go."

This time, he activated his Mind Net—a wide-range sensory web centered on his own chakra. Within a thousand meters, nothing could escape his perception.

Ten minutes later, Renjiro, leading the formation, suddenly raised his hand and stopped: "Stop!"

The team behind him halted instantly.

"What is it, Renjiro?" Meri asked, noticing the drastic change in his expression.

"Nothing." Renjiro said, taking a deep breath. Then he continued in a serious and deep voice: "There's a village up ahead. But… just be ready. It's not something you'll want to see."

The others exchanged looks, unsure of what to expect—but the warning in Renjiro's tone made them even more cautious.

They moved forward again. Thirty seconds later, they arrived.

A small, rural village—or rather… the ruins of one.

"Monsters…" Meri's voice trembled. She turned her face away, unable to bear the sight.

The village was completely destroyed, and corpses were everywhere.

The entire village had been slaughtered—men, women… even children. Not a single survivor. There were no signs of battle—only a massacre.

"Estimated time of death: within the last thirty hours." Maemon said calmly, though a strange glint sparked in his cold eyes.

Renjiro understood that Maemon was looking for a clue—maybe even a trail to follow. But they still had a mission to complete. Renjiro exhaled and said seriously: "The mission comes first."

"Yes, Captain." Maemon hesitated, then nodded.

But Tsugami was still crouched beside one of the bodies, sniffing the air. After a few seconds, he opened his eyes and said: "Maybe it's related to our mission. Maybe the ones who did this… are the same ones our client wants us to find."

Renjiro's eyes lit up. That made sense. The Third Hokage had mentioned unknown parties harassing nearby villages. Perhaps… this was their work.

"All right. Let's move. We're close to the client's estate." Renjiro gave the silent village one last look, then turned away.

They resumed their march.
