Naruto : Reborn As Sukuna Haruno

Chapter 7: Chapter 7 : First Spar

"A tie!"

Everyone exclaimed at the final result Iruka announced.

"This doesn't count," Naruto grunted, a little annoyed that he might have to treat this bastard now according to the bet they made. The bet was that if Sukuna took first place, then Naruto would treat him to ramen. The reverse if Sukuna failed.

"You didn't beat Sasuke," Naruto shouted, trying to salvage the situation. While Sukuna was no Choji, he ate just as much as Naruto could. That was almost half a month's worth of pocket money for the poor blond.

"The bet was about coming first," Sukuna deadpanned. Sukuna scored a perfect 10, and did it in style, throwing all the kunai and shuriken at the same time.

Sukuna accepted that he couldn't do it. He'd been working hard over the past year. He'd be truthful about his grind. However, Shuriken Jutsu wasn't a priority in his training—the least of it, in fact.

He himself scored 10, just with one shuriken and kunai at a time. Not much style, but he hit all the targets.

"Forget it, Naruto, there was no way he could have beaten Sasuke. 10 is a perfect score," Shikamaru pointed out to the blond, who was unwilling to give up on his ramen.

"Are we invited too?" Choji asked, making Naruto panic. That wasn't just half a month of pocket money—rather, half a year.

"That's not fair! Why didn't you tell me when there was no way to beat Sasuke then? I wouldn't have made the bet!" Naruto still protested. The little guy had been a little too willful when it came to his ramen.

"We thought it was obvious," Shikamaru deadpanned, wondering why he was taking part in this nonsense in the first place. And true, he wouldn't have—but somehow, in the past year, he genuinely had become friends with the three idiots in front of him.

Well, he was always friends with Choji, but the inclusion of both Naruto and Sukuna was almost out of nowhere. No doubt a little push from Sukuna to make sure Naruto had some more friends.

Sukuna himself though didn't have many. He kept his circle small, primarily out of convenience. He didn't have time to play with kids anyway. The only interaction they had was in the academy, and outside he was mostly grinding.

If Shikamaru and Choji were his academy friends, then he had a few grind friends as well outside the academy who shared his youthful zeal for training.

"Sigh… forget it," Sukuna waved his hands. He wasn't down on money to be hunting for others to pay for him. And he knew Naruto's monetary condition. He had enough to live by—unlike what someone might think, he wasn't starving. However, Naruto's appetite was too much to the point that his funds almost entirely went to food bills.

"Hmm…" Naruto frowned, seeing Sukuna back off this easily. While he didn't want to lose his ramen rights for half a month, going back on his word wasn't his style.

"How about it—you beat Sasuke in a one-on-one spar. I'll treat you to ramen. I promise," he gritted his teeth and said.

If he lost again, then that was his luck. In fact, it was fine if he lost too—at least he would get to see that Sasuke-teme put in his place. And if there was someone who could have done it, then it was Sukuna.

Naruto had been training with Sukuna for a year now, only physical training and taijutsu. Sukuna needed a punching—Cough… Cough—a sparring partner, and Naruto had already been training with him for some time.

A year's worth of training and a good diet under Sukuna had done wonders for the boy. This was part of the reason why Naruto was so obsessed with money nowadays. Sukuna wouldn't let him spend his allowance completely on ramen anymore.

He took half of his money on the first day of the month—borderline snatching it away—and stacked his refrigerator with food. From carbs to protein, everything a growing boy needed, with a complete diet plan to follow.

Sukuna partly did it to make sure the first thing Naruto did wasn't devour half of Ichiraku's stock, and partly because those idiot shopkeepers sometimes overcharged Naruto. Not everyone—definitely a far cry from how some fanfictions state they outright refused to deal with him and threw things at him—however, the discrimination was there. Again, not everyone, but some.

"Ramen, huh…" Sukuna thought about it. He wasn't that big of a fan of the dish. A felony in Naruto's mind when he first heard Sukuna say it.

"Sure, I wouldn't mind a bowl or two," Sukuna shrugged.

He wasn't a fan, but free food is free food.

While this chatter was going on among the four boys, another was looking at them with narrowed eyes. More importantly, at Sukuna.

Sasuke worked hard to be like his older brother—to be praised by his father. And yet, no matter what he did, he never got there.

As an Uchiha, he had his pride. He wouldn't give up. He'd become the rookie of the year, top of the academy just like his big brother did. That would make his father proud.

At least that's what he thought until he met two little pink-haired menaces. The pink-haired girl, Sakura, kept chasing him with another Yamanaka girl, annoying him from Konoha to Kumo.

And her brother, Sukuna Haruno—he was almost exactly the opposite of her. Calm, hardly talked to many kids. Still to date, they'd never talked in person, and yet he kept annoying Sasuke because not once had Sasuke been able to get first place thanks to Sukuna.

His grades were excellent. Sasuke didn't want to admit it, but he couldn't deny he couldn't beat Sukuna academically. At least he didn't want to. That just meant more study time for him, and who wanted that? Not when he could use that time training and getting stronger.

So his strategy was to beat Sukuna in core shinobi talents. After all, that's what matters in the end, right?

Unfortunately, his dreams didn't even start before Sukuna drew a tie with him in shuriken throwing. Granted, his were very basic—nowhere near as fancy as Sasuke's throwing technique. In battlefields, Sasuke would take the advantage with his technique, no doubt. But this was the academy, and ultimately, the grades given to them made their report cards.

And here, even after performing better than Sukuna, Sasuke had only tied with the pink-haired boy because the civilian-born hit all the targets.

Sasuke sighed. He couldn't do anything about it. He just had to accept this tie…

'I'm an Uchiha. There's no way a civilian like him can beat me.' Sasuke was looking forward to the sparring matches even more now.

So soon, the first sparring matches of the academy began. While the children had already been taught the basic academy taijutsu style, this was their first time actually using it to fight.

They were looking forward to this—not just Sasuke or Naruto, but everyone. Everyone except Sukuna, that is.

He sat on the sideline, watching the kids fight. Yeah, he's still gonna call them kids until they're at least in their mid-teens, because he too died when he was a little older than that age.

"Hey hey… why aren't they kicking each other in the balls? How come they don't fight like us?" Naruto immediately called out, seeing the difference in the fight. How come these brats weren't going through the same torture and pain Sukuna made him go through?

"Cause this is a spar. What we did was a fight."

"Eh? What's the difference?" Naruto blinked in confusion.

"Here we have some silly rules that don't apply outside the walls of this academy—perhaps Konoha, but that's stretching it. Once outside, everyone would fight like we do. No rules, merciless, and with the intent to kill," Sukuna replied interestingly as he watched the fights go one by one.

Shikamaru on the side was now wondering what kind of barbarians he had befriended.

"But we don't kill each other," Naruto blinked his eyes.

Sukuna and the others looked at the blond with side eyes. Then looked at each other. Communicating mentally about who's gonna explain to the idiot this time. Over the course of a year, they had come to terms with the fact that Naruto was dumb.

Like, seriously dumb. And he lacked much common knowledge.

This was a pain in the neck—more so when one of them had to do the explaining to the boy looking at them with puppy dog eyes.

Sukuna kept on staring at Shikamaru. The lazy Nara wanted to be anywhere but here now.

"Sigh… this is such a drag." So hence, Teacher Nara did his job while Sukuna went back to watching the spars until his turn arrived.

"Sasuke and Sukuna."

'Huh, thought so…!' Sukuna wasn't surprised. If this match didn't happen, he would be more suspicious. Both were on top of their classes. This was envitable.

On the side, Sasuke made his way toward the fighting ring with a smirk on his little face. Sukuna too made his way forward, no emotion on his face. He didn't consider Sasuke a threat, period.

"Both ready?" Iruka asked.

"Hm…" Sasuke grunted, ready to claim his first spot.

"Hai," Sukuna just nodded.

"Make the seal of reconciliation."

"Sa-Sasuke-kun… beat him!"

"You're so cool!"

And there were, of course, the fangirls. All shouting for Sasuke like he was the scorer of their favorite team.

Only Sakura somehow wasn't shouting. Sukuna would like to believe that she didn't want to watch him lose, though he doubted it.

She had seen him fight before, and she knew how strong he was. She hadn't seen Sasuke fight, so she couldn't say who would win.

"Go Sukuna… beat that bastard Sasuke up!" Naruto shouted from the other side.

As soon as the seal was made by both boys, Iruka started the match.

Sasuke immediately charged in, ready to end this fight as soon as possible. Most Uchiha didn't play defensively either.

Sukuna saw the boy coming, and rather than taking the stance for the academy-style taijutsu, he put both his hands up, taking a boxing stance.

He used to do it in his free time back on Earth—nothing major, but after coming here and when he had no other way to train, he put much time into refining his form in boxing. He also ended up adding some of the move sets from the academy style to give it a little more flair and flexibility.

A fast punch came right at his head, which he predicted and dodged while simultaneously his fist moved to hit Sasuke right on the face.

Sasuke saw the attack coming, but instead of dodging, he went for a block, only to feel his hands go completely numb when the impact arrived. He was sent tumbling back two steps—that's how heavy the punch Sukuna had was.

And this was without Curse Energy support. Just pure physical might.

'No blocking,' Sasuke made a mental note before ducking the kick coming his way—a form of kickboxing Sukuna had integrated into his technique.

Seeing the opening, Sasuke went for a leg swipe. Which kind of worked too—but not the way he expected. Sukuna had already seen what the Uchiha was going for. Rather than tanking or dodging, he let go of his legs even before the attack arrived, shifting his weight forward and stomping directly at Sasuke's hand which he used to rotate himself on the ground for a leg swipe.

"Ah…" Sasuke borderline yelped at the sudden pain. His hand was all but crushed. 'How heavy is this bastard?' were his only thoughts.

Sasuke wished to make some distance, seeing his hand's condition. However, he was too slow, immediately followed up by a punch, using the same momentum Sukuna used for the leg stomp.

It hit right at Sasuke's face, and the Uchiha was flat-out cold on the ground. Completely knocked out.

The other students watching this match were dumbfounded. It ended as soon as it started?

"Winner: Sukuna Haruno."
