Chapter 262: A Bittersweet Conclusion
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
A second pink-haired girl appeared beside the first in a small puff of white smoke, and without wasting any time, Sakura passed one of the two slugs sitting on her shoulder to her doppelganger.
"Keep him busy!" the Shadow Clone barked at the original, turning on her heel and flickering away.
For a majority of shinobi, halving your chakra mid-fight was a near-certain way to get yourself killed. For most, the Shadow Clone Jutsu was little more than a reconnaissance tool— useful in a pinch, but far too costly to use freely. Yet for those blessed with chakra to spare, it could prove invaluable in both combat and training…
No wonder Senju Tobirama, in his eternal hatred for the Uchiha, had devised a Jutsu that allowed a person to be in two places at once— a clever solution to defeat foes that couldn't be beaten in a one-on-one scenario. The vaunted Sharingan, impressive as it was, couldn't tell a Shadow Clone from the real thing, and neither could it see through walls or spot a blade aimed at one's back. It wasn't the Byakugan, after all!
And just as Sakura had hoped, Itachi fell for her trick.
Ignoring her completely, Itachi blitzed past the real Sakura and went for the pink-haired Shadow Clone running towards his brother.
"Sasuke!" the Shadow Clone shouted, drawing back her arm and hurling Katsuyu's divided self in his direction. "Catch!"
"Eep!" squeaked Katsuyu as she sailed in an arc over Kisame's head.
Sasuke's eyes flicked to the flying slug. He hadn't the faintest idea what Sakura's new summon was meant to be, but if she was throwing it at him mid-fight, he figured it was probably best to do as she proposed. Using Kisame's spiny sword as a springboard, he vaulted over the man's head and twisted in mid-air, snatching Katsuyu out of the air.
And at the same time, Itachi's kunai found the pink-haired Shadow Clone's back.
"Water Style: Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven!"
The Shadow Clone spun swiftly, unleashing a flurry of webs from her body. Itachi tried to pull his hand back, only to find it stuck fast to his kunai. Like a rubber band stretched taut snapping back to its original shape, his body was jerked forwards and drawn into the sticky trap. And just like that, Itachi ended up with his nose buried in between the Shadow Clone's plush breasts, as more and more threads wrapped around them, binding them tightly together.
"Die with me!" shouted the Shadow Clone.
Tsss~
Itachi's eyes widened slightly upon hearing the hiss of a primed Explosive Tag, and…
BANG!
"Did I get him?" Sakura muttered, her crimson eyes narrowing as she strained to catch every detail of the smoking crater before her. "Wha-!"
Itachi's figure tore through the smoke, his scorched robes flapping behind him, and before Sakura could even move a centimetre, he was in front of her, kunai flashing. Time seemed to slow, and Sakura stepped back just in time to dodge the worst of the slash. Still, Newton's laws of motion were harsh mistresses: unable to keep pace with the rest of her, Sakura's ample bosom billowed in her wake as she retreated.
Sakura let out a wordless cry of pain as Itachi's kunai caught the front of her clothes, tearing a jagged scarlet line across her otherwise unmarked cleavage; the cold iron of his kunai burning like a blazing brand in her open wound.
"ITACHIII!" roared Sasuke.
He could actually feel his wounds closing rapidly and his body re-energising with the vast reserves of chakra Sakura was pouring into him through her summoned slug, thanks to a combination of Chakra Transfer Jutsu and Network Healing Jutsu. Strength surged through him, making him feel unstoppable. Perhaps too much so…
"The Eight Inner Gates: Gate of Opening!"
"Water Style: Exploding Water Colliding Wave!"
The first of Sasuke's limiters was forced wide open, flooding his system with chakra like a broken dam. Faced with a tsunami the size of a skyscraper, he seemed to turn into an arrow, running up the wave and hurtling past Kisame!
Sasuke sailed through the air and landed next to Itachi, who immediately turned to face him. Even with her two-tomoe Sharingan, Sakura could scarcely see their movements as they flickered here and there faster than the eye could see, exchanging a flurry of kunai blows whenever they reappeared.
This was Itachi's true speed— even in his regular state, he was a man who could compete in a foot race with Shisui of the Body Flicker and endgame Naruto in Nine-Tails' Chakra Mode, whose speed surpassed the Fourth Raikage's!
Sakura grit her teeth, powerless to intervene in the high-speed duel. She could just about follow their movements thanks to her two-tomoe eyes, but until she unlocked the third, she doubted she'd last long in a fight like this. Perfecting the Lorentz Gun had given her the means to take down gigantic foes, but without Sage Mode or Lightning Chakra Mode, speedsters like Itachi or the Fourth Raikage would remain a problem unless she resorted to trickery.
Even so, while Itachi could have started this fight going all out and possibly scored a one-hit kill on Sakura, he wouldn't have gambled on it— not without knowing exactly what she was capable of, and not while knowing that running out of chakra would mean that he would be left at Sasuke's mercy.
Indeed, Itachi's stamina reserves were very limited, whereas Sasuke was now being fuelled by Sakura's vast chakra reserves. With their strengths combined, the two of them could just barely fight on equal terms with big brother Itachi!
"Heh…" Itachi chuckled, coughing blood even as Sasuke drove a kunai into his chest. "Is that all? If that's all you have, little brother, you won't even make my real body break a sweat."
Gathering the last of his strength, Itachi's body-double flicked Sasuke's forehead. His facial structures shifted, revealing the face of a complete stranger sporting a goatee, who dropped dead an instant later.
"Oh, you actually got Itachi?" said Kisame in admiration. "Well, this body still has plenty of chakra to spare, so I wouldn't mind going for another round or two with you lot… but I think I'll take my leave, for now. Our job is done."
And just like a marionette with its strings cut, Kisame crumpled into a heap— leaving Sasuke and Sakura with a bitter aftertaste, despite their victory.
…
"I really thought I had him," Sasuke murmured, staring out into emptiness. "I really did."
"Are you okay, Sasuke?" asked Sakura gently, resting a hand on his shoulder.
His shoulders were trembling, and his fists were clenched tightly at his sides— he was most definitely not okay. He needed a hug— which Sakura would have gladly given, had her tits not been out for the whole world to see, thanks to Itachi ruining her dress.
A sharp popping sound rang out behind them, and Sakura and Sasuke spun around. Tenten had materialised behind them, cradling the limp body of a turquoise-haired girl in her arms.
"She's dead," said Tenten dully. "I was too late."
Sakura took one of Fū's arms and laid her trembling fingers on the girl's still-warm wrist.
No pulse.
