NARUTO: Ninja World Scientific Revolution

Chapter 61: CHAPER 61 - Hyuga Mirai and Orochimaru

After most of the injured had been treated, Hyuga Mirai found that he had a lot more free time. When there was no large-scale war breaking out, a dozen or so medical ninjas were more than enough to handle the medical tasks of an entire camp.

Hyuga Mirai's greatest wish was to focus on his research, but that was difficult in the front-line camp. There was no privacy, and he might suddenly be called to deliver a mission. With his Byakugan constantly active, it was hard to focus on anything for long.

At first, Hyuga Mirai thought about requesting an external reconnaissance mission. It would give him the chance to take a walk through the Land of Rivers and get a better understanding of the terrain. In this type of relatively primitive, manpower-driven war, it was crucial to be familiar with the battlefield's geography.

Although he had memorized the map's details, second-hand information could never compare to firsthand knowledge.

However, before Hyuga Mirai could request the mission, Orochimaru sent someone to find him, asking him to attend a meeting.

"I'm just a Chunin. I probably won't be of much help," Hyuga Mirai thought helplessly. He had no idea what Orochimaru was up to this time. That man was unpredictable and rarely consulted with him.

When Hyuga Mirai arrived at the meeting, aside from Orochimaru, there were seven elite Jonin—each one with a remarkable task record, having proven their strength through multiple S-rank missions. Among them, Hyuga Mirai recognized only the pineapple-headed ninja from the Nara clan. He didn't know the other six.

"Lord Orochimaru," Hyuga Mirai greeted as he entered, then remained silent.

"Mirai-kun, please wait over there," Orochimaru gestured, treating him as though they hadn't interacted much before, asking Hyuga Mirai to stand aside while the others discussed their matters.

It didn't seem like anything urgent, or else they wouldn't have let a mere Chunin listen in. Still, the topic likely had something to do with him.

"Shikaku-kun, we've used up too many explosives and other military supplies. In just one surprise attack, we've used 60% of our stock. Yesterday, I visited the medical camp, and even the healing tags are running low, having used one-fiftieth of the total," Orochimaru's voice cut through Hyuga Mirai's thoughts.

The moment Hyuga Mirai heard that, he immediately guessed the reason he had been called in.

"Shikaku-kun, do you have any ideas?" Orochimaru inquired.

Nara Shikaku, after hearing Orochimaru's question, seemed confused for a moment. Was he being held accountable? But the surprise attack had been Orochimaru's idea, and bringing the explosives had been his order too. Now, why was he being questioned?

"How about... we reduce the scale of wars until the second batch of supplies arrives?" Nara Shikaku cautiously suggested.

Orochimaru lightly shook his head, "That approach is pointless. War is inevitable. If none of you have a solution, perhaps you should listen to Mirai-kun's ideas. I happened to run into him yesterday, and he proposed an interesting idea. If you have no objections, we can try it out in the camp."

As soon as Orochimaru spoke, all the Jonin turned their gaze toward Hyuga Mirai.

Hyuga Mirai's reputation in Konoha even surpassed that of Kakashi—he was a genius medical ninja, known for developing healing tags and various medical tools. He had also spent some time training under Tsunade at the Konoha hospital. Besides being a little weaker in strength, he seemed flawless, with even his interpersonal relationships without fault.

At such a young age, he was a genius in medical ninjutsu, and surely, he wouldn't have any good solutions to the consumption of military supplies... Or so Nara Shikaku thought. In his view, unless they asked the village for more supplies, there seemed to be no better way.

"Good day, everyone. What I mentioned to Lord Orochimaru yesterday was just a sudden thought. Please correct me if anything is wrong," Hyuga Mirai said, stepping forward slightly.

"For the usage of explosives, kunai, shuriken, and other ninja tools, we can account for them based on the mission's rank. For missions involving major countries, we can create a buffer to adjust the level of the mission slightly," he continued.

Currently, military supplies at the front-line camps were distributed according to ninja ranks. Genin were barely allocated a few explosive tags, while Jonin received at least twenty as a starting point.

Hyuga Mirai's plan was to adjust the distribution method, issuing military supplies according to the danger level of the mission. This would give the management more flexibility. The only thing needed was for the mission issuers to cooperate, allowing those in charge of the supplies to use mission-level reviewers to modify mission schedules and ranks, making a large profit in the process.

Since all mission issuance was handled by Orochimaru, if he were lazy, the tasks could be entirely left to his subordinates. However, Orochimaru could use shadow clones to deal with matters at the front lines.

From this point of view, those executing the missions would earn their merits, while they would profit, and the only one at risk of losing out would be the Daimyo of the Land of Fire, who was in charge of supply allocation.

If Orochimaru entrusted Hyuga Mirai with managing the military supplies, the two of them could secretly gain quite a bit. With a bit of ruthlessness, they could pocket nearly forty percent.

After Hyuga Mirai laid out all the professional data and terminology, he paused and quietly stepped to the side.

"Nara, what do you think?" Orochimaru asked slowly, only catching part of Hyuga Mirai's explanation. Although Nara Shikaku was intelligent, it was hard to immediately grasp a field he was unfamiliar with.

"I think it's worth trying, Lord Orochimaru," Nara Shikaku said after a moment of thought. Adjusting the way supplies were issued, requiring those in charge to run a few more missions to deliver supplies, shouldn't be a big problem.

Orochimaru flashed a meaningful smile, then spoke, "Since that's the case, Mirai-kun, this task will be entrusted to you. When you're not busy at the medical camp, you'll manage the military supplies. If you need assistance, feel free to ask me."

"Yes, Lord Orochimaru," Hyuga Mirai responded, nodding. It was as if he had been thrown into a pit of mice, though he wasn't sure he should be calling himself that. However, he was quite satisfied with this assignment—administrative duties, no combat, and with a shadow clone, he could free up plenty of time for himself.

After receiving the task, Hyuga Mirai informed Kurenai Yuhi and Kiyo Hyuga. While the two of them were reluctant to separate their team again, it was Orochimaru's order, so they couldn't object.

After arriving at the military supplies management camp, Hyuga Mirai conducted an inventory check. Once he had a rough idea of the available resources, he started to formulate a plan for how to operate things.

Soon after, the second batch of supplies and reinforcements arrived at the front. Five hundred ninja, a large batch of military supplies, and a very young vice commander—Konoha Jonin, Namikaze Minato.
