Chapter 22: Chapter 20: Kage No Mai VS The Will Of Youth
---
The next morning.
"Ughh, fuck!" I woke up with a splitting headache, staring blankly for a moment.
After calming down and relaxing a bit, I finally noticed a difference—I felt like I was a master of hand-to-hand combat.
Yeah, experiencing a hundred years of training in detail was definitely overkill, but… it was worth it. My body hadn't changed much, but I could feel countless new experiences, and it felt exactly like I had lived through them myself.
By the way, since I had practiced Kage no Mai for 100 years, it seemed right to test it against Might Duy. So, let's try it after my daily training. Besides, Duy would be at my place until noon, training my household guards.
---
At noon… Sweating, I approached Duy.
"Duy-senpai! Let's spar! I just created some new moves, leave the guards for now, let them watch!"
As soon as I said that, Duy exploded with his usual youthful nonsense.
"Aghhh, this is what I call the spirit of youth, Tadashi!! Let's do this!" After saying that, he immediately got ready.
I also stepped into the training ground and formed a respectful seal toward Duy.
---
The scorching midday sun blanketed the training field beside Elder Setsuna's grand residence. The air shimmered above the heated ground, but that didn't matter to me. I stood tall, two swords sheathed on my back, dressed in the dark attire of the Uchiha clan. In front of me, a young man in a tight green jumpsuit stood with a wide grin—Might Duy.
A few of Setsuna's household guards watched from the sidelines, some looking uninterested, others curious. I knew what they were thinking. Why was a kid like me fighting someone like him?
Duy slightly bent forward, assuming his signature stance. "You ready, kid?"
I nodded, stretching my neck. "More than ready."
Duy struck first. His movements were fast, but I was already used to reading opponents without relying on the Sharingan. I stepped back, tilting my body just enough to let his punch barely miss. Slipping into his guard, I delivered a quick kick to his stomach. Duy blocked it with his arm and countered with a wide hook that nearly clipped my jaw.
I spun, planted my hand on the ground, and swung my right leg in a fan-like motion toward his chest. Duy jumped back, dodging smoothly.
"Hooo? Your moves are pretty good," he said with a grin.
I didn't respond. Kage no Mai (Shadow Dance) wasn't about attacking harder. It was about controlling the opponent's rhythm.
I started moving faster, circling Duy at high speed, creating false openings in my defense. As expected, Duy took the bait, lunging forward with a straight punch.
"Kagebunshin no Jutsu!"
In an instant, a shadow clone appeared exactly where I had stood, taking Duy's punch before vanishing in a puff of smoke. I reappeared from the side, launching a side kick to his ribs. This time, my attack landed.
Duy staggered back, but instead of looking frustrated, his eyes shone with excitement.
"Heh! Looks like I can't hold back if I want to win."
I was just about to press the attack when he vanished.
!?
I caught a glimpse of him at the edge of my vision—Duy had moved at a much greater speed than before!
His first punch almost landed on my cheek. I barely ducked, but before I could counter, a quick kick struck my shin.
I lost my balance.
Duy appeared beneath me and—"BAM!"—an uppercut slammed into my body, launching me into the air.
I twisted mid-air, using the momentum to form quick hand seals.
"Shunshin no Jutsu!"
In a blink, I disappeared from his attack's path and reappeared behind him. A straight kick lashed out toward his back. Duy turned, but it was too late. My foot struck him hard, pushing him forward.
The Uchiha guards watching from the sidelines straightened up. Initially, they thought this was just a light sparring match, but now they were realizing how intense it had become.
Duy turned to me, his grin growing wider. "You're stronger than I thought, Tadashi! But…"
He crouched slightly, hands open in front of him.
"…you haven't seen my real power yet!"
Duy disappeared again, but this time he was even faster. My eyes widened. I couldn't follow his movements!
A powerful punch slammed into my chest before I could dodge. I was sent flying backward, but before I even hit the ground, Duy was already above me, delivering a vertical kick that crashed into my arm as I tried to block.
My arm went numb.
I gritted my teeth. I couldn't win like this.
My Sharingan flared to life.
Duy charged again, but this time, I could see him. He wasn't moving as fast anymore—or rather, my eyes were now capturing every motion clearly.
I bent my knees slightly and sprinted toward him. His first punch came from the left—I saw it, dodged by tilting my head, then countered with an elbow strike to his jaw. He blocked it, but I had already read that move. Spinning my body, my knee shot toward his ribs.
"You activated it, huh?"
I didn't reply, just kept pressing forward.
The battle turned into a rapid exchange of punches, kicks, and counters. Every time Duy attacked, I saw his openings and struck back with precise accuracy. However, Duy adapted as well—not just relying on strength but also reading my rhythm.
The guards on the sidelines began whispering among themselves.
"He awakened his Sharingan…?"
"I've never seen him use it before."
"This is the first time…"
I heard them, but I didn't care. Right now, there was only Duy and me on this battlefield.
Over time, my breathing grew heavy. I could see his movements, read his rhythm, but my body was slowing down. My legs felt heavy, my arms lost strength.
A single punch from Duy struck my side, making me stumble. I tried to get up, but my vision blurred.
Duy stopped, looking at me with a satisfied expression. "You've run out of chakra, huh?"
I clenched my jaw. I didn't want to admit it, but my body couldn't move like before. I lowered my hands and let out a deep breath. "Looks like it."
Duy smiled. "You're incredible, Tadashi. If you're already this strong at your age… I can't wait to see you when you're older."
I could only return a weak smile. Just then, the rain started to fall, soaking the ground and washing the sweat from our bodies. The guards slowly dispersed, leaving the two of us in the now-muddy training ground.
I lost. But I knew one thing.
Today, I fell. Tomorrow, I will rise stronger.
This is just the beginning of my journey!
