Chapter 99: Chapter 099: The Approaching Punishment
Kondō looked at his friend, confused as to why he would submit to an enemy.
Bei Gongcheng blinked rapidly and gave Kondō meaningful glances.
Trusting his friend, Kondō turned a refusal that was about to escape his lips into immediate agreement.
"Fine, I'll agree to it. I hope you can keep your promise."
Seeing the opponent was wise enough to cooperate, Satori Hyūga tossed over a piece of paper filled with text.
"Memorize this, and later train according to what it says."
Kondō examined the text curiously, instantly captivated by its contents.
"This is an advanced but incomplete ninjutsu?"
As a jonin, he already had ten years of experience training in ninja techniques and was intimately familiar with various forms of ninjutsu.
He himself possessed a high-level technique—one hard to activate and strict in its training conditions.
If it hadn't been for fear of drawing too much attention in Konoha, who knows how things might have ended.
"This technique is called Lightning Release; just train according to it. If you have any questions, come talk to me—don't practice recklessly."
Satori slightly altered the name from Eight Gates before telling the other man.
Although the Eight Gates were classified as kinjutsu, other villages didn't possess this technique nor understand the critical weaknesses of the Opening Gate.
However, the ninja world was full of lurking masters and experts. Someone might know about it, so changing the name was better.
Out of trust in his teammate, Kondō began training.
His comrade Bei Gongcheng had been screaming in pain all this time yet remained alive—clear proof the opponent actually valued lives rather than treating people like disposable test subjects.
By a strange twist of fate, both individuals now obeyed Satori's instructions and joined in assisting with the research.
However, opening the Eight Gates through Lightning Release proved extremely difficult. Despite an entire night of effort, Kondō still failed to open even the first gate.
Satori, however, wasn't particularly anxious. Step by step, he continued methodically refining the technique.
Creating new ninjutsu wasn't something accomplished overnight. To bring forth a technique from nothingness involved countless difficulties and complications.
For example, whenever issues arose during training, test subjects occasionally suffered sudden physical shrinkage, urinary incontinence, facial paralysis, convulsions...
Each bizarre problem seemed stranger than the last, making Satori deeply relieved he hadn't used his own body for experimentation.
Before, when his ninjutsu level was low, whenever problems arose, he could always ask Grandpa Hyuga Sounmei for advice.
Now, though, these techniques operated under higher classifications and couldn't be openly discussed—he could only figure things out by trial and error alone.
Over time, while Satori's research had not yet succeeded, his medical ninjutsu expertise had significantly improved.
Days passed quietly—until half a month had slipped by without incident.
One afternoon, Chonghuo Hyūga solemnly approached Satori.
"Bad news," he said. "Hizashi Hyūga has received a message—the Elder's plan to profit from massage parlors in the Land of Fire has failed. He's blamed everything on you."
"At tomorrow's clan meeting, the Elder will likely lead the accusations against you, using this as an excuse to seize control of your newly founded food processing factory."
Frowning, Satori's eyes flickered with anger.
It was one thing for outsiders to plot against his assets—but now even his own clan was trying to seize them.
It was understandable. This business venture was solely his responsibility, with minimal ties to the clan.
Because of this, many clan members sought a cut of the profits. But out of respect for his status as a Main House member and Orochimaru's apprentice, they couldn't directly demand a portion from him.
Now that they had a proper excuse and conditions in place, they naturally wanted to take him by surprise.
Satori Hyūga thought for a moment before asking, "The Elder hasn't returned to the clan yet, right?"
Chonghuo Hyūga responded, "That's correct. But he should arrive tonight. Are you planning to—"
He hesitated, leaving the rest unspoken.
"Nothing serious. Just making sure about the Elder's whereabouts," Satori said with a smile.
He had considered ambushing the Elder along the way but decided against it after thinking through his limited manpower. If he failed, it would stir up too much chaos. After careful consideration, he decided it wasn't worth the risk.
"Chonghuo Hyūga, I want you to gather every detail possible regarding the Elder's activities in the Land of Fire," Satori ordered.
"If he's planning to target me, then obviously I should collect evidence and make the first move."
He believed his idea of opening a massage parlor was a brilliant one—it was meant to boost the Hyūga Clan's profits.
If the Elder ruined it, it would be his failure, not mine, right?
As long as he gathered enough evidence, he could mount a decisive counteroffensive.
"Oh, and I should speak with Grandpa Hyūga Sounmei about this. We need to coordinate our strategy and mobilize every possible ally."
Upon learning that someone was targeting him, Satori Hyūga immediately sprang into action.
First of all, he was still quite young. If he stood up alone against the Elder, most elder clan members wouldn't take him seriously.
At a time like this, he needed the support and backing of his grandfather, Hyūga Sounmei.
Though only the Third Elder, Sounmei wasn't someone who could be easily intimidated—he led a faction of his own.
The Elder might dominate part of the clan, but he certainly didn't control everything, and there were still those beneath him who silently resisted.
By establishing the massage parlor business, the Elder had hoarded most of the profits, allocating them only to his loyalists.
It was obvious that the rest of the clan harbored resentment—there was no way everyone was truly satisfied.
Once Satori explained everything to his grandfather Hyūga Sounmei, he immediately gained his support and began rallying other clan members.
Of course, persuasion came in various forms—some threats, some incentives.
He worked to unite every possible ally, bringing the clan members over to his side.
Satori promised each supporter an instant noodle voucher and priority access to jobs at the factory.
Don't assume that no one in the Hyūga struggled financially.
Due to the ongoing wars, countless orphans had grown up without support, and once they came of age, financial support was withdrawn.
Satori's actions, while seemingly subtle, did not go unnoticed by Clan Leader Hyūga Ten'yō.
However, rather than intervene, he chose to remain hands-off and even helped keep things quiet.
As the leader of the clan, Hyūga Ten'yō didn't hold absolute power either, and the existence of the Elder's faction had always made him uneasy.
Now that a weapon had emerged to strike back at the Elder, he was more than willing to watch it unfold.
Outside Konoha, a lavish and opulent carriage was making its way toward the village, with the Hyūga clan compound as its final destination.
Inside the carriage, the Elder sat in the center, flanked by silent Branch House Guard Ninjas standing watch.
The Elder's gaze was dark and indifferent; his expression, cold. Clearly, he was in a foul mood.
The massage parlor venture he'd launched in the Land of Fire had drained nearly all his personal fortune. Not only had it failed to yield the desired results, but it had also severely damaged the Hyūga Clan's reputation.
To him, all of this was Satori Hyūga's fault. If it hadn't been for that trap he set—luring the Elder into falling for it—how could he have suffered such heavy losses?
