Chapter 304: 303-Let’s see what those green flames can really do
Renjiro's eyes remained transfixed on the green flames, their vivid glow casting rippling shadows across the dimly lit basement. His breath caught in his throat as he watched the fire's unearthly dance.
It was unlike anything he had ever seen or conjured before—an enigmatic blaze that pulsed with an energy far removed from the ordinary. The sight stirred equal parts awe and trepidation within him.
His fingers twitched as if tempted to reach out and touch the flames. Instead, he clenched his fists, grounding himself in the present. Stay focused, he thought, though the swirling questions in his mind made it difficult.
'How am I using green flames?' The thought circled endlessly in his mind as he observed the scene before him. His shadow clone stood motionless, its expression mirroring his own shock. The flames crackled softly, a sound both familiar and alien as if they held secrets only his newly evolved Mangekyō Sharingan could unlock.
Renjiro exhaled sharply, shaking himself from his daze. He clenched his jaw, determination settling into his features. "Enough," he muttered, voice firm yet tinged with a lingering sense of disbelief.
With a flicker of thought, he deactivated his Susanoo. The shimmering silver ribs dissolved into the air, leaving faint wisps of chakra in their wake.
A soft puff followed as his shadow clones dissipated, their memories rushing back into his consciousness in a tidal wave of sensation.
The flood of memories brought clarity—and a fresh wave of questions. His clone had intended to test the Susanoo's chakra defences using a basic Fireball Jutsu. Yet what should have been an ordinary red-orange flame had instead become this vivid green phenomenon. Renjiro's brow furrowed as he replayed the moment in his mind.
"Does this mean I can only use these flames now?" he wondered aloud, his voice echoing slightly in the cavernous room. The thought was both thrilling and unnerving. His Sharingan evolution had granted him something extraordinary, but it also raised countless unknowns.
Renjiro began pacing, his sandals scuffing lightly against the stone floor. "So, this is my Mangekyō ability…" he muttered. Just as Itachi and Sasuke had their signature flames—Itachi's black Amaterasu, an inextinguishable inferno, and Sasuke's controlled variant—Renjiro's Mangekyō had gifted him a unique flame as well. But his flames were green, vibrant and otherworldly, standing apart from anything he had seen or read about.
"This… is going to be a problem," Renjiro admitted to himself, stopping mid-step. He ran a hand through his hair, frustration creeping into his expression.
The Uchiha clan prided itself on power and the unique abilities of its members, but anomalies often attracted unwanted attention. And the more flashy or conspicuous the ability, the greater the risk.
The Uchiha elders would likely see him as a rising star, a beacon of strength for the clan—but also a potential threat to their established power structures. And outside the clan, factions like Danzo's Root could interpret this ability as a danger to the village, pushing them to act and Renjiro did not want to give them any more ammunition.
Renjiro rubbed the back of his neck, his expression clouded. "I could always pass it off as a kekkei genkai," he mused, though the idea didn't sit well with him.
It was a convenient lie, but not one he wanted to rely on unless absolutely necessary. For now, the flames were a mystery he needed to unravel.
He turned his attention back to his original goal: determining whether these green flames had replaced his ability to use standard Fire Release techniques.
Deactivating his Mangekyō Sharingan, Renjiro felt his eyes shift, the swirling tomoe fading into darkness as the pain died down. Taking a deep breath, he moved through the hand signs for the Fireball Jutsu.
It was a sequence so ingrained in his body that he could perform it in his sleep, but this time he slowed down, ensuring precision in every movement.
Renjiro inhaled deeply, chakra pooling in his lungs. 'Now,' he thought, releasing the built-up energy.
"Whoosh!"
A familiar burst of red-orange flames erupted from his mouth, roaring to life as they illuminated the room coagulating into a fireball. The fireball burned brightly, its heat washing over him as it dissipated into a shower of harmless embers.
Seeing the familiar hue, Renjiro's shoulders sagged in relief. "So, I can still use normal flames," he murmured, though his reprieve was short-lived.
As he examined the scorch marks left behind, something about them struck him as unusual.
"This… is way hotter than usual," he remarked, crouching to inspect the faintly glowing marks. His mind raced, piecing together the implications. The fireball had packed more intensity than it should have, even though he hadn't made a conscious effort to enhance it.
His eyes widened slightly as realization dawned on him. "It's the Mangekyō," he muttered.
The Sharingan's evolution hadn't just granted him new abilities—it had also amplified his chakra control. The Susanoo was proof enough; its very existence demanded extraordinary chakra control as it was basically covering yourself with chakra in simpler terms.
It only made sense that his other techniques would benefit from this newfound refinement.
'But that begs the question… what do the green flames do?' Renjiro wondered, his curiosity bubbling to the surface once more.
Before his thoughts could spiral, he slapped his cheeks lightly, the sharp sound breaking his focus.
"Focus, Renjiro. One step at a time," he told himself, his tone firm. He hadn't finished testing the Susanoo yet, and getting distracted wouldn't help him make sense of anything.
Reactivating his Mangekyō Sharingan, he felt the familiar rush of power surge through him. The silvery ribs of the Susanoo materialized once more, surrounding him in their protective glow. Without hesitation, Renjiro created two shadow clones, who immediately got to work.
The first clone extended its hand, chakra spiralling into the familiar form of a Rasengan. The second clone inhaled deeply, chakra pooling in its chest before it released a massive Fireball Jutsu.
"Now," Renjiro commanded, nodding at his clones.
The Rasengan-wielding clone charged forward, slamming the spinning orb against the Susanoo's ribs with a resounding whir. Simultaneously, the second clone exhaled, releasing a massive fireball that roared as it collided with the construct.
"BOOM!"
The combined impact sent shockwaves rippling through the room. Renjiro braced himself, feeling the force reverberate within the Susanoo. Yet, as the dust and sparks settled, the silver ribs remained unscathed, their glow steady and unbroken.
Renjiro smirked, pride swelling in his chest. "If it's this strong at this early stage, then I can't wait for a Perfect Susanoo," he said, his voice laced with anticipation.
However, the familiar strain of chakra depletion began creeping in. Renjiro grimaced, quickly deactivating the Susanoo before it could drain him further. He popped another soldier pill, the bitter taste dissolving on his tongue as a fresh wave of chakra flooded his system.
"Let's see what those green flames can really do," he said, his tone brimming with determination.
