Mission?

Kai raised an eyebrow.

In this volatile situation, Kai was an unstable factor for Konoha. The Third Hokage assigning him a mission was unusual.

"Yes, I think this mission is perfect for you," the Third Hokage chuckled dryly. "Come to the Hokage Building tomorrow morning. I'll tell you the details."

"But I'm curious why you didn't kill Danzō."

The atmosphere grew tense. Hazuki and the others didn't know the full story, but they knew Danzō's name. The Third Hokage mentioning this publicly was significant.

"Not killing him might be useful," Kai smiled warmly. "Just like the Third Hokage's tolerance of Danzō. You have your reasons, right?"

The Third Hokage was startled, then shook his head. "You're overthinking. I'm cautious. I don't want to escalate the conflict."

"Remember to come to the Hokage Building tomorrow. Thank you for the meal. This medicinal cuisine was exceptional."

The Third Hokage left.

"Brother, will you accept the mission?"

Watching the Third Hokage leave, Itachi asked anxiously. This mission, from the Hokage himself, seemed dangerous. Kai's position in Konoha was precarious. The Hokage might assign him a dangerous mission, like infiltrating the enemy or assassinating someone—a deadly trap. Even with Kai's self-preservation skills, this seemed suspicious.

"Don't worry, I'm bored. A little excitement is good. Besides, the Third Hokage isn't stupid," Kai patted Itachi's shoulder and left.

"Boss, wait for me! I smelled Nine-Tails' scent. Should we go check it out?"

The Three-Tails landed on Kai's shoulder.

"No!"

Kai rolled his eyes. "You're afraid you can't handle it and want me to help, right?"

"No, Boss, don't misunderstand. I swear, I didn't think that,"

The Three-Tails swore, having learned a lot from humans.

Meanwhile, at Konoha Hospital, the medical ninjas were in an uproar.

Jiraiya stood outside, his expression grave. He looked at the blonde woman leaning against the wall, drinking sake, and fell silent.

"Jiraiya, tell me what happened," Tsunade said, wiping her mouth, slightly drunk. "Who dared to injure Danzō, that stubborn old man?"

"Those burns could be life-threatening."

Tsunade had returned to mourn the recently deceased Asuma. She hadn't expected this, being summoned to Konoha Hospital. Despite her hemophobia, her medical knowledge was unmatched.

"You must be hungry," Jiraiya sighed. "Let's go to Ichiraku Ramen. A monster has emerged in the village, beyond control. I hope you'll stay..."

"Monster?" Tsunade's expression changed, her drunkenness fading.

Jiraiya often boasted about his senjutsu to Tsunade. The Sannin were considered equals, but Tsunade knew Jiraiya was the strongest.

"The Hokage, and your student, Minato Namikaze, can't handle him?" Tsunade frowned, leaving with Jiraiya.

But as they left, a dark figure slipped into a post-surgery ward.

The bright lights were dazzling.

Danzō, bandaged like a mummy, opened his eyes.

"You're finally here. Why did the mission fail? I gave you the Edo Tensei scroll and the Second Hokage's cells to ensure your victory," Danzō's voice was raspy, but his face showed little pain.

"Haha, it's fortunate I fused you with the First Hokage's cells. Without that regenerative ability, you'd be dead," Orochimaru flicked out his crimson tongue, his face pale.

He was unharmed, but the Immortal Reincarnation Jutsu had weakened him considerably. If not for his partnership with Danzō and Yamanaka Fū's urgent plea, he wouldn't have risked returning to Konoha.

"Hmph, if you'd given me that earlier, I would have killed him," Danzō said ferociously.

"You didn't see how arrogant he was, as if he controlled my life. I almost couldn't maintain my composure."

Seeing Danzō so distraught, Orochimaru's expression darkened. "Danzō, I forgot to tell you something important."

"That kid learned senjutsu!"

Upon learning Jiraiya intended to send Kai to learn senjutsu, Orochimaru had planned to eliminate Kai first. He hadn't expected Kai to learn senjutsu so easily—in less than half a day!

"Is that true?" Danzō's expression changed drastically.

"That's a monster!"

"If he mastered senjutsu that quickly, it changes our plans drastically."

"Before Jiraiya gets information from Mount Myōboku, we must proceed with our final plan. Even if it plunges Konoha into war, we must eliminate him."

Danzō looked towards a corner.

A small figure appeared. "Danzō-sama, I brought the scroll you requested."

"Good. My hidden trump card. I planned to use you later, but Torune's death leaves me short-handed. You'll have to work harder," Danzō said, pleased.

Orochimaru's eyes lit up.

"Danzō, is that the kid? The plan succeeded. No wonder you fused with the First Hokage's cells so quickly. He's quite useful."
