Chapter 217: Today’s Uzuki Yūgao
This was exactly why they had brought the chakra energy Cannon.
It was all to deal with Uchiha Haru.
The power contained in this chakra cannon — capable of unleashing immense energy in an instant — was said to be strong enough to destroy the entire moon with a single shot.
Though Uchiha Haru was undeniably strong, he was still mortal. He could be injured, exhausted, and even killed.
With the devastating power of this chakra cannon, Haru faced a real danger.
This was the secret weapon the Hidden Cloud Village had prepared specifically to counter Uchiha Haru.
Among the three great hidden villages, only the Eight-Tails Jinchūriki Killer B of the Hidden Cloud Village had truly fought against Uchiha Haru. He alone understood how terrifying Haru's power was.
Killer B knew that sheer numbers wouldn't be enough to defeat Uchiha Haru.
The only hope was to briefly restrain or control Haru, even if only for a moment.
Alternatively, they could rely on the chakra cannon to fire its most lethal shells directly at him.
They believed no one on this earth could withstand the overwhelming force of the giant chakra cannon.
This enormous weapon was the Hidden Cloud Village's ultimate deterrent—reserved for those threats to their village or the shinobi world. Yet now, it was being deployed early, aimed squarely at Uchiha Haru.
This fact alone showed just how much the Hidden Cloud Village feared the "Eve of the Universe."
Kakashi, although not fully aware of all the details, could see the gravity of the situation.
He deliberately relayed this intelligence to Haru, to avoid any potential mistakes.
Yet even after learning about the giant chakra cannon, Uchiha Haru remained calm and unshaken.
He murmured quietly, "Giant chakra cannon...?"
As a time traveler, he was well aware of this immensely powerful weapon.
He understood the destructive energy it unleashed.
Even with Ōtsutsuki physiology, he probably couldn't endure a direct hit from it.
After all, it was a force truly capable of obliterating the moon in one blast.
His Ōtsutsuki-enhanced body was extraordinary, but it would still struggle against such overwhelming power.
Indeed, the chakra cannon was one of the few things in the world capable of threatening him.
But so what?
It could threaten him, yes.
But could it actually hit him?
He doubted it.
No matter how powerful the weapon, if it couldn't land a strike, it was nothing but a flashy toy.
Uchiha Haru had now mastered the Flying Thunder God Technique and the forbidden-level Instant Body Technique.
He could teleport from one ninja village to another in an instant.
Even the chakra cannon would be powerless against his speed.
So, despite Kakashi's worried warnings, Haru didn't care.
He was fully confident he could handle the chakra cannon easily.
Kakashi's lips moved slightly, as if to urge caution one last time.
But in the end, he said nothing.
Not because he didn't want to, but because he knew.
He knew exactly what kind of person Uchiha Haru was.
If Haru said it was fine, then it was fine.
No more questions were needed.
Moreover, Haru's current power was unimaginable, even to Kakashi.
In Kakashi's eyes, not even his mentor, the Fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze, or the Third Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen, or the Second Hokage Tobirama Senju could compare to the present-day Uchiha Haru.
If anyone in the world could be said to rival Uchiha Haru, it would be only two legendary shinobi:
The First Hokage Hashirama Senju — known as the God of Shinobi — and the Uchiha clan's greatest warrior, Uchiha Madara.
No one else could match Uchiha Haru's current strength.
So even though Kirigakure had refused to send reinforcements or agree to an alliance, Kakashi still held hope whenever he saw Uchiha Haru.
No matter how dire the situation, Uchiha Haru had never failed before.
And this time, with Haru's help, Konoha would surely overcome its crisis.
He believed in it.
Uchiha Haru's words deeply moved many of those present.
They believed that since Uchiha Haru said such a thing, he would surely be able to accomplish it.
After all, they were now at the brink of destruction.
If Uchiha Haru had not arrived alongside the shinobi from Kirigakure, they might have been completely wiped out within five or six days at most.
His arrival was like a light in the endless darkness, a beacon that there was still hope to survive.
They trusted that this light would illuminate their night and lead them toward a brighter future.
After the meeting, Kakashi and the others from Konoha returned to their respective resting places.
The recent battles had taken a severe toll even on powerful shinobi like them.
Another war awaited them tomorrow; they needed to rest and recover fully to be at their peak.
They had to protect their homes and those they cherished.
Uchiha Haru was no different.
Although he didn't feel tired — he could operate without rest for long stretches — he knew the importance of conserving energy.
Just as he was about to use the Flying Thunder God Technique alongside Yuhi Kurenai to carry out a certain task, a figure suddenly emerged from the shadows.
The figure was not tall, clad in the standard Konoha Anbu uniform, wearing a peculiar mask covering the face, and a kunai embedded in their back.
Long hair framed a well-proportioned body and exuded a cold, distant aura.
Even with the mask, Uchiha Haru recognized the person instantly.
It was Uzuki Yugao.
Haru looked at her with detached calm.
Counting the encounters, it seemed he had only met Uzuki Yugao once since leaving Konoha.
That was when he had bid farewell to Kurenai Yuhi after the Chūnin Exams in Konoha, and he had caught a hurried glimpse of Yugao.
At that time, Yugao glanced at him in the crowd but didn't approach or exchange a word before hastily leaving.
Yet now, Yugao had taken the initiative to find him, standing silently before him.
"Yugao, long time no see," Uchiha Haru said lightly, eyes fixed on the female ninja before him, who seemed more mature and colder than years ago.
He had no idea what Yugao had gone through over the years.
But it couldn't have been good.
Though Yugao had always been cold, she was warmer back then compared to now.
He once asked Kurenai Yuhi about Yugao's current situation.
At that time, Kurenai admitted she didn't know much.
After the Uchiha clan left Konoha, the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, ordered a strict silence regarding the Uchiha.
All shinobi were forbidden from speaking about the clan, attempting to erase them from Konoha's history entirely.
The fewer the shinobi talked, the less the villagers would remember.
Gradually, generation after generation passed, and the Uchiha clan—the founding family of Konoha, once the largest and most powerful—would slowly vanish from the annals of the Hidden Leaf.
It was during this time that Uzuki Yugao joined the Anbu.
Her contact with others diminished drastically.
Everyone knew that the Anbu were the Hokage's private armed forces.
They performed tasks both visible and hidden, acting as the Hokage's trusted instruments.
They worked in the shadows, rarely interacting with outsiders.
This is how Uzuki Yugao and Kurenai Yuhi drifted apart, their once-close relationship fading.
Kurenai had told Haru she didn't fully understand Yugao's affairs and cautioned against gossip.
Haru thought about it and even discreetly inquired further but eventually restrained himself.
After all, he had chosen Xihi Hong, and Xihi Hong and Uzuki Yugao had been close friends from the start.
He couldn't have both.
People always have to make choices.
Even though Haru knew Yugao, cold as she was, still cared deeply for him, her love might not have been much less than Xihi Hong's.
But he chose.
He had originally thought they would remain ordinary friends forever.
Yet unexpectedly, before the looming war, Yugao came to him.
Looking at Uchiha Haru before her, Yugao hesitated, saying nothing.
After a moment, she slowly removed another strange mask from her face, revealing her features.
A delicate oval visage, flawless and perfectly proportioned.
She was truly beautiful, her cold demeanor like a proud peony in full bloom.
Tonight, looking at Uzuki Yugao before him, Uchiha Haru saw a woman more mature and more stunning than the one he remembered in the Hidden Leaf.
The only thing unchanged was the intimacy, long absent but suddenly felt again—a sensation of being in a different world.
Much like when he had seen Kurenai Yuhi, Might Guy, and Asuma again after many years.
But this feeling was different, indescribably complex.
