Chapter 90: Chapter 90: The Alliance Affecting the Ninja World
Chapter 90: The Alliance Affecting the Ninja World
Hanabi sulked in silence until dinnertime, refusing to speak to Hinata.
Unfortunately, the ever-gentle yet somewhat oblivious Hinata didn't realize that her earlier behavior had upset her sister. She simply assumed Hanabi was tired from training. So, throughout dinner, she kept picking up food for her, asking if she was okay, and even reminded her to go to bed early to rest.
Ryosuke sat quietly in his seat, eating as he observed the interaction. Despite Hanabi's silence, he could clearly feel her frustration. It was like trying to punch cotton—your effort goes unnoticed, and the target doesn't even flinch.
Eventually, when her bowl was overflowing with meat and vegetables and not a single grain of rice, Hanabi couldn't take it anymore.
"…Sister, stop serving me food. I can't eat this much," she finally muttered, disheartened.
How was she supposed to express her anger when her sister didn't even realize she was upset?
Hinata paused, her chopsticks frozen mid-air. "Ah—sorry! I portioned it based on my appetite," she admitted, scratching her cheek awkwardly. Then she remembered—her appetite wasn't exactly… normal.
"Come on, Sister, let's eat together. I can't finish all this by myself."
Hanabi hopped off her chair, dragged it across the floor, and sat beside Hinata.
As she fed Hinata bits of food, she would occasionally glance at Ryosuke with a smug, triumphant look—almost as if to say, "See? She's mine."
Ryosuke, however, simply continued eating, unfazed. He didn't really understand this childish possessiveness. To him, it was just a phase.
Dinner ended in that awkward, slightly comedic atmosphere.
And Hinata wasn't wrong—Hanabi was tired. After dinner, she washed up and went straight to bed. She was still a kid, after all.
Unlike usual, Ryosuke and Hinata didn't head to the training ground after dinner.
Ryosuke had just returned from a mission and didn't feel like training. He needed rest. Hinata stayed by his side.
They sat together in the yard, a small coffee table between them, with fresh fruit laid out. The moon hung high in the sky as the two enjoyed a rare moment of peace, waiting for Hiashi to return home.
Hiashi hadn't joined them for dinner.
The lights at the Hokage Building had been on since the afternoon. Apparently, the meeting regarding the Land of Waves mission had dragged on longer than expected.
Hinata broke the silence first.
"Come to think of it… Uchiha Sasuke hasn't been to school since he failed the graduation exam. He's been taking leave."
She knew Ryosuke cared about certain people more than others, so she brought up the village's recent updates.
"Naruto just came back yesterday. Looks like he completed a B-rank mission."
"As for Sasuke… if he manages to awaken his Sharingan, he'll definitely graduate," she added.
Ryosuke nodded slowly, his tone calm but thoughtful. "But it's hard for him to awaken it if he continues living peacefully at the Academy. The Uchiha always needed some kind of trigger. It's their fate."
He looked up at the sky.
"But if he can pass the graduation exam using only his own strength, without relying on the Sharingan, I'll respect him even more."
He paused.
"After all, when his brother Itachi graduated, he didn't use the Sharingan either."
Though the pressure Itachi faced at the time wasn't the same as what Sasuke was facing now.
Sasuke was the last surviving heir of the Uchiha. He had the bloodline, but no mentor. No one to guide him. All he could do was grope his way forward through the dark.
"As for Naruto…"
A soft smile formed on Ryosuke's lips. "The team Hokage-sama assigned him is very strong. It's no surprise he completed a B-rank mission."
Naruto wasn't walking the same path as in the original timeline. He hadn't graduated with the rest of the class, which gave the Hokage more freedom in forming his team.
Given his status as both the Fourth Hokage's son and the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, Naruto's protection and development were top priorities for the village. Balancing both was a delicate and difficult task.
It was similar to how Hiashi had been reluctant to let Ryosuke leave the village so soon—but still allowed it.
Young birds must take flight into the sky on their own before they can truly learn how to soar.
Hinata glanced at Ryosuke and handed him a piece of fruit, her expression slightly jealous.
"…You always seem a little too interested in Naruto," she said, half-joking but with a hint of truth. "Every time you talk about him, your emotions really shift."
Ryosuke didn't notice the undertone. He accepted the fruit and nodded sincerely.
"He's interesting. His growth keeps surprising me."
When they first met, Naruto was like a sensitive hedgehog—spiky on the outside, defensive, and hurting inside.
But little by little, he learned to control himself, to grow, to hide his pain, and to move forward.
There was a time when Ryosuke looked at him and saw a reflection of himself—children always mimic those they look up to.
But as time passed, that imitation faded, replaced by something uniquely Naruto. A personality of his own.
When Naruto left the village on a mission, Ryosuke could tell—he wasn't faking maturity anymore. He was starting to become mature. Starting to develop his own… presence.
Hinata pursed her lips but said nothing.
She understood. Ryosuke admired strength—and those who had the potential to become strong. She knew she wasn't one of those people. Not in his eyes.
The air grew still again. Ryosuke leaned back and closed his eyes. He was exhausted. He didn't want to think anymore.
Noticing his change in mood, Hinata didn't speak. She simply stayed beside him in silence.
They waited together into the night, but Hiashi never returned.
Eventually, they gave up and went inside to rest.
---
The next morning, sunlight filled the courtyard—but Hiashi still wasn't home.
However, Ryosuke received some news.
Yesterday, Hiashi and his brother had gone to the Hokage Building. Later in the evening, Elder Utatane Koharu and Elder Mitokado Homura were also seen heading there. They must've been summoned.
Apparently, a smaller closed-door meeting had taken place.
Shortly after, clan leaders such as Nara Shikaku, Akimichi Choza, and Yamanaka Inoichi were also called in.
Then this morning, just as the sun rose, several Hyuga jonin witnessed something shocking—Danzo Shimura had reappeared publicly for the first time in a long while, heading toward the Hokage Building.
It was clear that Ryosuke's trip to the Land of Waves had set off a chain reaction.
Not just in Konoha—but across the entire Land of Fire, and even the greater Ninja World.
Thanks to Gato's wide-reaching influence and contacts, the news had already reached other nations.
Every country involved was now scrambling to control information.
The goal: make sure word didn't spread before the alliance was officially sealed.
