Chapter 22: Chapter 22: A Sky Full of Magic
"Look! The demon is staring at us!"
"Fight back!"
"Wood Creation Magic: A Million Arrows!"
"Fire Creation Magic: Roaring Fire Dragon!"
"Water Magic: Towering Torrent!"
"Wind Magic: Razor Gale!"
On the right flank, the members of the Fierce Dragon Bandit Group were completely rattled. They had just watched with their own eyes as Haofan annihilated the left flank of their comrades in less than five seconds. Some of those slain had been First-Class Junior Mages — the core strength of the entire group. Yet they couldn't even muster a hint of resistance!
In their panic, none of them cared anymore about magical type advantages or coordination. All at once, they hurled their most powerful spells at Haofan. In the blink of an eye, the sky turned into a swirling vortex of destructive force — fire magic like blazing dragons, ice spells like crystalline serpents, wind blades, wooden arrows, water jets — every color imaginable converged with the force of a world-ending calamity, crashing toward Haofan in unison.
For a moment, it felt like the heavens and earth themselves were being swallowed by the onslaught. Several of the young candidates for the Magic Knight Order collapsed in fear, trembling under this godlike barrage of spells. Even Yuno, usually composed, felt his heart skip a beat.
"That bastard's gotta be dead after this!"
Kerr stammered, trembling. If Haofan somehow survived this — it would be Kerr who might die instead!
"You call this fat sheep?! This bastard's a demon!"
Captain Reidi backhanded Kerr, sending two of his front teeth flying. Half his face instantly swelled up, but Reidi wasn't done — he beat Kerr senseless in a fit of rage.
"Perfect time to wipe 'em all out in one go!"
Haofan grinned, hoisting the Demonbreaker Sword — the perfect moment to test its magic reflection capabilities!
"Back to sender!"
He raised the sword with one hand. Chakra surged violently into the muscles of his legs. After just two quick steps, he stomped hard on the ground and launched himself into the air!
Zzzzzzz!
In mid-air, the Demonbreaker Sword met the cluster of converging spells. The force from all those combined magics struck like a waterfall crashing down from a hundred meters high. To reflect them was like trying to push that waterfall back upstream with nothing but brute strength.
"Eight Gates Technique — Gate of Rest: Open!"
With no hesitation, Haofan opened the second of the Eight Gates. His power surged. In that moment, the Demonbreaker felt as light as a wooden stick in his hands. The torrents of magic? As weightless as air.
"Where you came from — is where you're going back to!"
Haofan roared. Silver hair flew wild, green and red auras twined around him like twin dragons. For an instant, he looked like a wrathful god of war.
Then — boom!
Like a baseball bat connecting with a fastball, he slammed every last spell right back where it came from.
BOOM!
Boom boom boom!
Dozens of wooden arrows, wind blades, and ice lances shot back at supersonic speed. The mages who had cast them didn't even have time to react — they were torn apart by their own spells, falling like wheat before a scythe.
[Ding! You have slain a red-named Tier-3 Junior Mage. Gained 100 points!]
[Ding! You have slain a red-named Tier-2 Junior Mage. Gained 200 points!]
[Ding! You have slain a red-named Tier-1 Junior Mage. Gained 300 points!]
…
[Ding! You have slain 50 red-named Tier-3 Junior Mages: +5000 points]
[Ding! You have slain 20 red-named Tier-2 Junior Mages: +4000 points]
[Ding! You have slain 8 red-named Tier-1 Junior Mages: +2400 points]
[Total points gained: 11,400]
"Eleven thousand points?!"
"This is insane!"
Haofan was on fire. His blood surged with adrenaline. Turns out, once you find the right method, racking up points is easier than he ever imagined! Just wiping out a bandit group like this and he was already close to 20,000!
"...Is he... a god?"
The youths who had nearly been sacrificed stared blankly. Haofan, descending from the sky, looked to be about their age — yet in front of these brutal bandits, they'd been too scared to even move, while he had single-handedly obliterated an entire gang.
Wait — no.
There was still one more left. The bandit captain!
"Earth Creation Magic: Giant Shield!"
"Earth Creation Magic: Giant Shield!"
Captain Reidi had watched his entire team get slaughtered like sheep. Now he was trembling like a frightened quail, pouring all his mana into barrier spells. Layer after layer of towering earth walls surrounded him, seven or eight meters thick — yet he still didn't feel safe.
He was completely terrified.
Terrified of that demon-like boy.
