Chapter 164: Chapter 122 : Stepping on the Air!!

"This is...?"

Looking at the kunai in Kagetsu's hand, seemingly solid and crackling with electricity, Yahiko and his two companions widened their eyes in shock.

To gather chakra in one's hand and manifest it into a tangible form was beyond their understanding of ninjutsu.

"Careful!"

Without thinking, Konan reached out to touch the kunai in Kagetsu's hand. The moment her fingertips made even the slightest contact, a sharp pain tingled through her finger, followed by a numbing sensation.

In the next instant, Nagato grabbed Konan's hand, pulling her arm away from the technique, which even he could sense contained an overwhelming power.

"What kind of ninjutsu is this?"

Konan quickly used her medical ninjutsu to heal the minor wound on her finger, her eyes never leaving the kunai.

It was as if the chaotic energy had been compressed into tranquility, a mesmerizing sight of electric brilliance flowing in Kagetsu's grasp.

This kind of technique without a specific training regimen or chakra nature is self-destructive when holding it in one's palm.

"Ninjutsu?" Kagetsu raised an eyebrow. "This isn't ninjutsu."

Under the trio's astonished gazes, the lightning-style kunai in Kagetsu's hand dispersed into a burst of electricity, vanishing in his palm. In the next moment, another kunai, radiating intense heat, materialized in his hand.

Then followed a series of displays—a shield of earth release, a long staff of water release, and finally, a crystal-clear, nearly transparent flower.

As the flower bloomed, thin currents of air began to converge toward it, swirling into Kagetsu's hand. The rushing air caused a strong wind to stir within the laboratory.

"Kekkei Genkai! Is this a Kekkei Genkai?"

Konan, her hair disheveled by the sudden gust, seemed to have realized something and blurted out the question.

"Kekkei Genkai? Perhaps." Kagetsu let the wind-style flower dissipate in his hand. "In fact, if we were to judge it based on danger levels, it might have the potential to surpass a Kekkei Genkai and qualify as a Kekkei Tōta."

"Chakra!"

Nagato, who had remained silent until now, suddenly spoke up.

The trio's eyes immediately turned to him. The weight of their gazes—especially Kagetsu's and his companions'—made the usually introverted and quiet Nagato visibly uneasy.

"What do you mean, Nagato?" Konan, familiar with Nagato's reserved nature, took the initiative to ask.

"Did you notice something, Nagato?" Even Yahiko, still lying on the bed, directed a curious look at him. While he could see the magnificence and power of Kagetsu's techniques, he hadn't grasped the deeper implications behind them.

Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan all knew that Nagato possessed the legendary Rinnegan, a pair of eyes with unimaginable power and extraordinary perception. Perhaps he truly saw something that others could not.

"Energy, or rather chakra, is being forcibly manipulated by him," Nagato said, his Rinnegan perceiving more than what was apparent to the others. He saw the chakra within Kagetsu's body, as well as the chakra within his and Konan's bodies, being silently siphoned away by some unknown force.

If not for the clarity granted by the Rinnegan, Nagato might never have realized his chakra was being drawn out.

Seeing that Kagetsu didn't deny it and instead offered an encouraging look, Nagato shared everything he had seen and felt.

"Extracting chakra from another person? Is that even possible?" Konan asked, her face filled with disbelief. Yahiko, lying on the hospital bed, had the same shocked expression.

"It is possible. In the Land of Water, within Kirigakure, there's a blade called Samehada. It can strip away an opponent's flesh and devour their chakra simultaneously. Not only that, but it can transfer the absorbed chakra into its wielder's body.

"There are also many special ninjutsu techniques designed to absorb chakra or even counter elemental ninjutsu. So the idea of extracting another's chakra is far from unimaginable," Kagetsu explained to the trio.

While the Land of Water often carried an air of mystery and intrigue, and its ninjas and techniques were scarcely known, the fame of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist had long transcended borders. Through countless victories, their reputation had spread to other villages.

Each of them held a blade that symbolized strength and prestige, recognized by all.

"But Yahiko's abilities are not about devouring chakra; they are about disassembling, absorbing, and controlling it," Kagetsu continued.

"For example, something like this?"

Noticing the lingering confusion on Yahiko and Konan's faces, Kagetsu decided to abandon verbal explanations. Instead, he chose to demonstrate with action.

Under their astonished gazes, Kagetsu appeared to walk up invisible steps, rising half a meter off the ground as though he were floating in mid-air.

Konan and Yahiko's eyes lit up instantly. For Konan, who had the Paper Release that allowed her to fly, this was less surprising. But Yahiko's eyes were filled with a deep longing.

"How did you do that?" Yahiko carefully observed Kagetsu, especially his feet. After confirming there was nothing unusual, he excitedly pressed for an answer.

"Can you figure it out?" Kagetsu didn't answer directly this time but turned his gaze toward Nagato, who was staring intently at him, and posed the question instead.

"Chakra! You forcefully extracted and released chakra at the soles of your feet. No... You condensed the air beneath your feet using chakra." Nagato replied cautiously, his brows furrowed.

"That's correct! I'm stepping on air," Kagetsu nodded, acknowledging Nagato's deduction.

"It's widely known that practicing fine chakra control can be done most effectively through two training methods: tree climbing and water walking.

Both methods involve concentrating chakra at the soles of your feet to achieve adhesion. For tree climbing, you use only your feet to walk vertically, as if on flat ground, and eventually, you can even hang upside down from a branch like a bat without falling.

Water walking is much more challenging! Unlike tree climbing, where the surface is solid, water is fluid. When walking on water, not only do you have to control the chakra output to counterbalance your body weight, but you also need to sense the movement of the water beneath your feet and dynamically adjust your chakra accordingly."

Kagetsu landed gracefully from midair, planting his feet back on the ground. He raised a finger in front of Yahiko and the others, explaining, "Walking on air is an advanced training method that surpasses the difficulty of the first two!

It's a technique that only a few individuals, or those with special Kekkei Genkai abilities, can learn and master.

In simple terms, it involves solidifying the air beneath your feet using chakra, making it sturdy enough to support your body weight."
