Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Hidden Weapon Duel – The Shock of a Rich Girl!
"You little brat... not bad with hidden weapons after all!"
"But brute force alone won't cut it!"
Tenten's voice carried a hint of annoyance, though she tried to sound composed.
Just then—whoosh!
Another shuriken flew past her cheek, slicing the air.
This one wasn't nearly as fast as the last, and Tenten could clearly see it pass.
But before she could even react—another!
A second shuriken spun in from a different angle, spiraling through the air in a sharp arc.
Unlike the first, which flew in a straight line, this one rode the wind in a curved trajectory.
Clang!!
Both shuriken struck her back target at the exact same moment.
After colliding, the two shuriken bounced off in opposite directions—
—and embedded themselves precisely into two small black target dots on the distant wall.
Tenten's eyes followed their path.
"...Wow. That's some insane hidden weapon technique."
Sure, she could pull off that kind of move too—technically.
But not at that speed.
And more importantly, not with such terrifying precision.
It was obvious: Shigure had held back his strength on purpose.
And that kind of control? That was the real scary part.
Throwing a shuriken with full power while also adjusting its force and trajectory...
...and then using a second shuriken to perfectly strike the first mid-flight, while making sure both hit separate targets?
That took incredible skill.
She turned to glance at the kid standing across from her—still a student at the Ninja Academy.
And somehow, her cheeks flushed red.
First, for underestimating him too quickly.
Second… well, maybe it was just her imagination, but—
—was he always this cool-looking?
And now, with this skill in hidden weapons...
Tenten felt her heart skip. Just a little.
"Can I buy a ninja sword from you now?"
Shigure's calm voice brought her back down to earth.
Tenten blinked, then looked him up and down again, eyes gleaming.
"Of course you can!" she said brightly, "But there's a condition."
"You'll have a hidden weapon contest with me. If you win, I'll give you the sword!"
Shigure chuckled. He wasn't particularly interested in a basic ninja sword.
But the idea of a competition? That piqued his curiosity.
Tenten may be a kunoichi, but she was known for her insane accuracy with hidden weapons.
If her technique was truly as flawless as people said...
Then this was worth testing himself against.
"Alright."
"Then follow me!"
Tenten spun on her heel and led him to the hidden weapons training ground tucked behind her shop.
As Shigure stepped in and took in the surroundings, he couldn't help but be impressed.
The place was fully equipped, almost on par with a standard Konoha ninja training facility.
The sheer size and setup… behind a shop, no less?
"She really is the richest girl in Konoha..." Shigure muttered.
Money really could buy anything.
"How are we competing?" he asked, glancing around.
Tenten pointed toward two targets in the distance—about twenty meters away.
"Three shuriken. Three kunai."
"Six throws in total. Highest combined score wins."
Shigure nodded calmly. "Alright. You go first."
Confident on her home turf, Tenten didn't hesitate. Shuriken and kunai flew from her hands in rapid succession—fast, precise, and effortless.
Each one struck dead center on the bullseye.
She turned back to Shigure with a self-satisfied grin. "Your turn!"
Shigure stepped forward. Three shuriken in his left hand, three kunai in his right.
He threw them all—simultaneously.
Thunk! Thunk! Thunk!
Thunk! Thunk! Thunk!
All six projectiles struck dead center—each one piercing the same exact point. The shuriken layered like flower petals blooming from a single hole.
Tenten blinked in disbelief.
"You've got to be kidding…"
Both hands at once? Perfect aim with both hands?
It was the first time she'd met someone who surpassed her in hidden weapon skills.
And he was younger than her.
And ridiculously good-looking.
And cool. Way too cool.
"…So… is it a draw?" she asked, trying to recover.
But when she glanced at his target and then back at hers, she knew the truth.
She'd already lost.
"Let's go again!" Tenten insisted quickly, still avoiding the use of ninjutsu. "This time—moving targets!"
Shigure gave a small smile. "Alright. How does it work?"
Tenten pressed a button on a nearby wooden console. "In thirty seconds, this machine will start launching moving targets. You get fifteen chances. Hit them all, and you win."
A moving target challenge?
Shigure nodded. "Sounds good."
Tenten stepped back. "You go first this time."
"No problem," Shigure said, stepping into position.
'Perfect chance to test how well thought acceleration helps in real combat…'
[Great Sage: Thinking Acceleration—Activated.]
With a kunai in hand, he waited.
The machine whirred—and launched the first target.
A frisbee.
Shigure's eyes narrowed, and he smiled.
The disc hadn't even fully left the launcher—yet Shigure had already locked onto it. In his accelerated perception, the frisbee seemed to move in slow motion.
Every twitch of its rotation.
Every fluctuation in its balance.
Every projected arc it would follow.
It was all visible to him.
Thirty meters? It might as well have been three.
He raised his arm.
BOOM.
The kunai launched with a compressed gust of air—an audible explosion of force.
Tenten's eyes widened.
Was that... a gas explosion?
Before she could even process what happened—
CRACK!
The frisbee shattered instantly—at the launcher itself, before it had even entered full flight.
She stood frozen.
What… what kind of dynamic vision is this?!
He didn't even wait for the target to stabilize. He just… destroyed it before it fully appeared.
Does he even need a reaction time?
Where normal shinobi waited to assess the target's path mid-air, Shigure simply annihilated it right as it emerged.
Again. And again.
Fifteen times in a row.
Each frisbee—obliterated before it could complete its launch.
Tenten could only watch, stunned.
When the machine went silent, Shigure turned around. "All done. Your turn."
Tenten blinked. Her mouth was slightly open. Shigure stood calmly, not even proud—just calm.
She swallowed hard.
This wasn't just a matter of skill.
This was a complete mismatch in natural ability.
With vision and reaction speed like that, Shigure could probably hit anything.
"I… I give up," she said weakly.
Shigure raised an eyebrow. "Giving up before even trying?"
"No need," Tenten admitted, forcing a bitter smile. "My throwing's not gonna shatter the target before it even takes flight…"
She sighed, then muttered to herself, "And I thought I was pretty good..."
A ninja with looks, talent, and now this level of hidden weapon mastery?
It was too much.
Wait…
She suddenly had a thought.
"…You don't happen to be good at swordsmanship too, do you?"
Shigure blinked, then nodded. "Of course. Why else would I want a ninja sword?"
Tenten inhaled sharply. "In that case—show me your swordsmanship!"
"If it's as good as your throwing skills, I'll personally craft you a custom ninja sword. Highest grade. No cost."
