Chapter 25: Reaper Death Seal, Perish Together
Though the Third Mizukage was blind, silence followed wherever he faced.
The Uzumaki shinobi watched him warily, unsure how the Mizukage would enter the battle.
The Kiri forces grew more cautious, deliberately pulling back from the Uzumaki.
The Kumo shinobi began slowly retreating as well.
When a Kage appears on the field, everyone—ally or enemy—treads carefully. If you're caught in the blast radius of one of their jutsu, you die without ever knowing how.
Suddenly, the waters of the great river that cut through Uzushiogakure began to churn.
A massive lobster-like beast burst out, launching foamy bubbles at the Third Mizukage.
Another colossal summoning—hidden in the river all this time.
The Mizukage heard the commotion. He raised his hand.
The entire river surged upward—a colossal sphere of water enveloped the giant lobster in an instant.
Water Prison Jutsu.
But on a scale never seen before. A single technique sealed away a massive summon beast.
The bubbles never even reached him—consumed by the enormous water sphere.
A sphere dozens of meters across. Despair settled across the Uzumaki ranks.
The Mizukage formed another seal. Dark clouds gathered above him.
The clouds rose, thickened, spread—becoming a massive, brooding storm that swallowed the skies over Uzushiogakure.
Raindrops began to fall.
Yako nearly crushed the binoculars in his hands. What he saw through the lens chilled him to the marrow.
If I were down there… I'd be dead. No doubt about it.
Each raindrop… became a Water Prison.
The moment it touched a living being.
This wasn't a jutsu you could dodge—not even with the Body Flicker Technique. Not at this scale.
Every Uzumaki ninja, every summon beast—they were all trapped.
Even civilians collapsed in pools of blood, barely breathing—were registered as "living" and sealed in watery spheres.
The village was silent. No more sounds of battle.
Only hundreds of water prisons hovered over the battlefield—each holding an Uzumaki, thrashing in futility.
They flailed arms, kicked wildly, but the walls were unreachable.
Some tried to form hand seals—but to no effect. They couldn't break free from the Mizukage's jutsu.
Inside the spheres, Uzumaki shinobi gasped, choked, convulsed—faces swelling crimson as they inhaled lungfuls of water.
Yako swallowed hard. The Third Mizukage's range... it covered an entire village.
A Kage—said to be able to destroy a village alone—was not an exaggeration.
And that wasn't all.
He had refined control—only targeting Uzumaki. None of the Kumo or Kiri shinobi were affected.
Yako now understood Danzō's hesitation. He's not frozen. He's afraid.
Just when Yako thought the Mizukage had shown his full hand… the blind man opened his eyes.
For the first time in decades—those sealed eyelids parted.
But there were no eyeballs—only swirling, ominous red liquid.
A fan-shaped beam of crimson light shot from the Mizukage's sockets.
Every water sphere touched by that red light… flashed red—and the Uzumaki within burst like overripe fruit, dissolving into blood.
One look. Half the clan, gone.
One more look, and every male Uzumaki would be wiped out.
No aid from Konoha. One of the three greatest shinobi clans—crushed by a single Hidden Village.
In the age of Great Villages, no clan, no matter how powerful, could resist alone. Rogue clans faced only annihilation.
The Senju, the Uchiha—they never even considered leaving Konoha. Without the village, you die faster.
The Mizukage turned.
He now looked toward the remaining Uzumaki.
It's over. They're finished.
Yako glanced toward Danzō again. Why won't he move?
Was it really because he feared the Mizukage?
Probably. Danzō feared death. Until he sat in the Hokage's chair, he wouldn't risk himself.
Then, just as the Mizukage's eyes began to glow again—
A massive chameleon appeared.
Another of the beasts later summoned by Pain's Animal Path—the Invisible Chameleon.
It materialized at the riverbank and opened its mouth.
From its throat emerged an old man—long white hair, once red. Frail, ancient.
The former clan leader of the Uzumaki. Older brother of Uzumaki Mito.
Before stepping out, he had already completed the hand seals.
Above the river—a translucent Shinigami emerged.
Reaper Death Seal.
The Mizukage instantly reacted—he didn't form hand signs, but a wall of water surged behind him.
It didn't matter.
The Shinigami ignored all matter.
Its cursed-marked hand passed through the wall—and seized the Mizukage by the head.
No—by the soul.
It ripped his soul from his body.
The Mizukage thrashed briefly—then crumbled like a long-dead corpse.
A dried husk.
Reaper Death Seal was no ordinary jutsu. It transcended all shinobi understanding—targeting the soul directly.
At the same time, the old Uzumaki elder toppled from the chameleon's mouth.
The Shinigami's work was done—the Mizukage's soul was sealed.
The elder's soul, in turn, was devoured.
He smiled as he fell.
He had given everything for the Uzumaki.
A man guilty only of possessing treasure—the Uzumaki's sealing techniques, desired by every village.
Even Danzō of Konoha had demanded they be shared.
Too bad Hashirama Senju only ever tried to appease the Five Great Villages—for his laughable dream of peace.
Never once did he secure a Tailed Beast for the Uzumaki.
Had the Senju clan not intervened, perhaps the Uzumaki would've had one.
In hindsight, sending Kushina to be the Nine-Tails' jinchūriki in Konoha was a terrible compromise.
The Third Mizukage and the Uzumaki elder died together.
"Clan leader!!"
Inside the second Four Violet Flames Formation, the women wailed.
Uzumaki Yuuka turned toward Konoha's direction. Why hasn't anyone come yet?
Even the Kiri shinobi were stunned—some dropped their blades.
Their Kage was dead.
A man who'd once stood beside the First Mizukage at the Five Kage Summit—gone.
Even in old age, he had been terrifying. How could he just… die?
The Kumo forces exchanged uneasy glances.
They'd come at Kiri's invitation—to help wage war against Konoha, disrupt the front lines at the Land of Hot Water.
But now? Konoha hadn't shown. The Mizukage was dead.
Several Kumo captains exchanged looks—then turned their gaze to the Uzumaki shrine.
We can't let this bloodshed be for nothing. If Konoha isn't coming—then take the sealing techniques!
If their jutsu could kill a Kage like that… imagine what else it could do.
With such sealing techniques, perfect jinchūriki were within reach.
As for the Kiri shinobi—they lost it.
Frenzied. Mindless. They rushed the Uzumaki with zero discipline.
Eyes bloodshot. Vengeful.
Red-haired bastards—every last one must die!
The Mizukage's water prisons had been too powerful.
The Uzumaki who escaped were weak, coughing, choking—unable to fight.
One by one, they fell to Kiri blades.
Yako lowered the binoculars.
Now Danzō will move. He has to.
The Mizukage was dead. So was the Uzumaki clan head.
Uzushiogakure was in ruins.
Danzō stood.
Three ANBU division leaders rushed to receive orders.
They moved to their captains, orders passed down in layers.
Black Ape Squad quickly regrouped around their three squad leaders.
"Form up. Fastest speed. Head straight for the Four Violet Flames Formation!"
"I'll go down the center with Fox. The other two squads take the flanks."
"Wedge formation. Don't stop for anything. GO!"
