Chapter 7: Chapter 7 The Art of Negotiation
(A/N: Sorry Everyone, to increase the word count I wrote same scene again, but don't skip it just scroll little bit and you will get the continuation part)
Naruto hesitated at the entrance of the bookstore, fumbling through his pockets. A few coins clinked together.
"Well… I guess it wouldn't hurt to take a look."
With that, he stepped inside.
If he were outside Konoha, he could make money easily with his Scorch Release. Even if A-rank missions were out of reach, B-rank ones would be more than enough to cover his expenses.
But right now, his identity was too sensitive. Any reckless action might lead to serious consequences.
Taking dangerous missions was out of the question, and even his recent fights and "fundraising efforts" could attract the attention of the Third Hokage.
At best, Hiruzen would just give him a stern lecture.
At worst, he might end up under 24-hour surveillance.
Naruto wandered to a corner of the bookstore and scanned the shelves. A slow grin crept onto his face.
So this is the kind of shop it is, huh?
Titles like Makeout Paradise, Youth and the Mature Big Sister, and My Secret Romance with a Kumo Kunoichi lined the shelves.
"...A smut bookstore, huh?"
He casually picked up a book and flipped through its pages.
—
"Makeout Paradise… Wait, what the hell!?"
Naruto snapped the book shut, his face twitching.
"This thing barely has any real action! And they're charging 5,000 ryo for it!?"
The limited edition cost a whopping 60,000 ryo—half a year's worth of living expenses.
For comparison, a single explosive tag cost about 1,000 ryo, and a kunai around 500.
This book was worth five explosive tags.
And the limited edition? Sixty.
Explosive tags could save lives in battle.
Makeout Paradise… could be used as toilet paper.
Just as Naruto was processing this daylight robbery, he heard a familiar voice from the entrance.
"Boss, where's the latest limited edition of Makeout Paradise? I'll take five copies."
Naruto's eye twitched.
"...That voice. Hatake Kakashi!?"
—
At the store's entrance, Kakashi stood alongside Izumo, Kotetsu, and Aoba Yamashiro—all of them acting suspiciously, glancing around as if they were smuggling contraband.
Their eyes gleamed with expectation, curiosity, and a hint of shame.
The shopkeeper, unfazed by their antics, nodded knowingly. "I understand, I understand. The books are over there—help yourselves."
Kakashi, unfazed as ever, lazily strolled toward the bookshelves. The other three, however, looked around as if expecting ANBU to burst in at any moment.
"Makeout Paradise... Where is it!?"
Kotetsu's eyes burned with passion as he scoured the shelves.
It was said that this book contained the most… "refined" content in all of Konoha. No, in the entire ninja world.
"Ah, here it is."
A smooth voice interrupted them, and a pale hand passed a copy of Makeout Paradise to Kotetsu.
Kotetsu's eyes lit up as he grabbed it instinctively. "Thanks, man!"
Then he looked up and froze.
Naruto stood before them, arms crossed, a devilish smirk on his face.
The room fell silent.
"...Naruto!?"
Kotetsu nearly dropped the book.
Izumo, Aoba, and the others looked just as horrified, like criminals caught red-handed.
Oh god. If word got out that they were caught buying this, would they ever find wives!?
—
"Ahem!" Naruto cleared his throat dramatically.
"Kotetsu, Izumo, Aoba… and even Kakashi-sensei. My, my… All fine shinobi of Konoha, coming here to buy this kind of material?"
He sighed, shaking his head. "What an embarrassment to our village's reputation."
The three Special Jonin lowered their heads in shame.
If people found out… How would they face society!?
Kotetsu's face was redder than a tomato. "I-I was just appreciating the literary value…!"
Naruto chuckled.
"Liar."
—
As Kakashi finally approached, his single visible eye landed on Naruto, blinking in mild confusion.
What's he doing here?
Naruto gave him a bright, innocent smile. But inside, his mind was far from warm.
Hatake Kakashi… The disciple of my father's student, an Elite Jonin, a so-called genius…
Kakashi knew he was the Fourth Hokage's son, yet never once helped him.
He never even taught him a single jutsu.
Yet here he was, dropping sixty thousand ryo on a smut book without hesitation.
Naruto's smile grew wider, but his heart turned colder.
—
Inside the sealed space, the Kyuubi cracked open an eye.
"Naruto, you're angry."
Naruto's response was calm. "No, just saw someone I don't like."
The beast twitched its tails. "If you need my power, just ask. I'll lend it to you."
"Yeah. Thanks."
—
Meanwhile, Kotetsu had an idea.
If Naruto was here, there was only one way to make sure he kept his mouth shut.
He pulled out a wad of cash and handed it to him. "Naruto, this is 10,000 ryo. Go buy yourself something nice, and uh… let's keep today between us."
Naruto frowned, pushing the money away.
"Do I look like the kind of man who can be bribed!?"
Kotetsu and the others paled.
"This is a matter of principle! You guys are disgracing the honor of Konoha's shinobi!" Naruto declared dramatically. "I am a future Hokage candidate! How could I associate with you degenerates!?"
Kotetsu, Izumo, and Aoba wanted to crawl into a hole.
Their dreams of marriage… gone.
Kotetsu mumbled, "I… I just appreciate it for the art..."
Naruto scratched his chin in thought, then sighed.
"Well… If you insist, I do need more money for school supplies."
Kotetsu: "..."
Izumo: "..."
Aoba: "..."
Kakashi: "..."
—
By the time Naruto left the bookstore, his wallet was four times heavier.
—
The four Special Jonin stood outside the store in stunned silence.
After a long pause, Kotetsu muttered, "...This kid is going to be something big in the future."
Izumo twitched. "Well, he just scammed us out of forty thousand ryo, so yeah."
Aoba added, "And the worst part? We willingly gave it to him. He didn't even pressure us…"
Kakashi stared after Naruto's retreating back, his face unreadable.
"...Extortion. That fight not long ago…"
Then, without another word, he turned and walked toward the Hokage's office.
—
Hiruzen took a deep puff of his pipe, listening as Kakashi recounted the events.
By the time Kakashi finished, the old Hokage frowned.
"Naruto got into a fight and extorted money? Why did he fight in the first place?"
"To protect a Hyuuga girl—Hinata, I believe."
Hiruzen exhaled slowly, his expression softening.
"Ah. If that's the case, it means he's forming bonds. That's a good sign."
Kakashi, however, still looked troubled.
"But… he also blackmailed Kotetsu and the others. That's tens of thousands of ryo."
Hiruzen took another puff of his pipe. "How did Kotetsu get blackmailed?"
Kakashi hesitated.
"...Uh…"
Hiruzen narrowed his eyes. "Kakashi, speak."
Kakashi sighed and relayed the… embarrassing truth.
Hiruzen nearly choked on his smoke.
"What!? Konoha's shinobi engaging in such indecency!?"
Then, after a pause, he added, "Hand over your copy of Makeout Paradise."
Kakashi: "..."
Damn old man just wanted a free book.
